EA Should Lose The Star Wars License (The Jimquisition)
Added 2019-01-21 15:55:45 +0000 UTC
Electronic Arts has handled the Star Wars license terribly. They've screwed things up in ways that are embarrassing to watch.
Having only squirted out two Star Wars Battlefront games and made a mess of both, EA deserves to lose its exclusive hold over Star Wars games. EA also just deserves to lose in general.
There was an article about the last years of LucasArts in a magazine... I think it might have been Game Informer. It wasn't a pretty picture, in part because Lucas still held the reins of anything Star Wars in his clenched fist and micro-managed any attempt to do anything innovative with it to the point of impossibility. (Insisting on personally coming up with the names of any new Sith like he was bestowing knighthoods, allegedly, among other things...)
That EA has managed to run throat-first into that relatively low bar is really saying something.

Speaking of pink vaders, anyone notice the pink tree beside vader in the "star wars micro force advent calendar 2018" I'd say who ever had a hand in designing that cover art knew about pink vader.

All the money in the world and EA still can't publish a good Star Wars game. That 4-year comparison was striking. Holy cow. RIP LucasArts. And preemptively, RIP Bioware. 😞 Good video again Jim. 🙂

It's actually Dingo Manburger's super secret hideout on Dagobah. The boglin's are local lifeforms he has trained to do his bidding.

That's tragic. My silliness aside, it really did strike me as peculiar that we haven't yet had an open-world Star Wars game with a player character creation system. There's no shortage of planets, species, factions, fictional technology, in-world events and scenarios or otherwise lore related resources for a dev team to go absolutely banana-bread with. The fact that it may very well of happened but didn't due to EA's breathtaking incompetence is almost criminal.

I think swtor is back compat with Xbox but the most egregious one to myself is the fast that on pc mass effect 2 still doesn’t have controller support

Why doesnt EA make Bioware port SWTOR to console? Black Forest and ESO have followings. Why not add another MMO to console?

Jim, if you're awaiting a new lectern, please name it Hannibal. Hannibal Lectern. kthanxbye

Apparently that was what Project Orca was supposed to be... and of course now because EA claims it'll "take too long", it got canned. So we're getting a smaller scale game and the open world game we should get once again gets pushed aside in the name of greed.

Guybrush Threepweed? Threepweed?!!
What I'm still waiting for is the open world Star Wars that should obviously be made. Set it on a single new planet, or perhaps a planetary system, and give us about two hundred different species to pick from for our main character, or, you know, like thirty maybe? I want to play as a Toydarian, or as a Talz, or a Kitonak, or a Dug... or an Ortolan...
Or a Givin... Or a Barabel...
Or a Kowakian Monkey Lizard...
Man, I really need to get back into Star Wars d20.

I just realised; where has the lectern and backdrop gone? The last two videos have been in front of a wall of boglins

While initially skeptical, I do think the GW route of licensing pieces of the IP to various studios/teams is a great model. Would work really well for Star Wars, too.

Oh wait never mind my previous comment SWTOR was released in 2011 2 years before they got the license so not only does it not count as a good mark for the period it might not die if they lose the license. So yeah.

God I hate to do this but ea does have one good and successful (I think) Star Wars game, the old republic. Is it good enough that if ea lost the license I would cry about it’s death? No. Would I be disappointed? Yes. Despite it existing though it didn’t exactly set the world on fire like Star Wars should have. Otherwise good video Jim thank god for you and do you have any preference in company to acquire the Star Wars license? I would like platinum personally.
