Battletoads - The Game That Wants To Be Every Game (Jimpressions)
Added 2020-08-21 13:30:54 +0000 UTCBattletoads is a game with a very small attention span. One moment it's a brawler, the next it's a bullet hell shooter. When you finally get a handle on it, the thing becomes a rhythmic runner game.
Those hoping for a brawler will be disappointed. There's plenty of combat, but Battletoads is never in a hurry to get to it. It's too busy hurrying toward a dozen other shiny objects.
It's fun though! A bloody mess, but weirdly fun.

2020-08-22 00:31:22 +0000 UTCI played through act 1 to unlock the skins for Sea of Thieves (A lot of the Sea of Thieves freebies seem to be about promoting other Game Pass games). It makes your cannons look like giant fists and colours your ship so that it looks like a giant floating booger. I doubt I'd have played it without that incentive, but now I'm glad I did because with all the battletoads memes out there being someone who actually played it is like being that guy who read the book of a popular movie.
2020-08-22 00:03:26 +0000 UTCThe toads being all spazzy and cartoony is fine and all, they are literally formless when push comes to shove, but the enemies look like the rejects from a 90's gross out cartoon and the Dark Queen went from evil sorceress to Teen Titans extra. That and the gameplay whiplash I've been hearing about is not gonna encourage me to play this one I think. Which is kind of a shame. Friends of mine probably will, but I get headaches from this kind of genre jumping these days.
