Well put, in fact you can thank the green party for Gore losing in 2000 due to Ralph Nader splitting the votes.

Firestorm

uh I did pay attention, perhaps it's you that did not?

Firestorm

Thanks for the link, I was about to open soundcloud manually like a fool xD I guess there's a glitch in the embed code for patreon

Dani Gould

I agree with the point you are making, but when specifically in this episode did Steph say any of this? You are saying that it is wrong to not pay attention to the differences between dems and republicans, and you are right! But it sure seems like you are not paying attention to what Steph actually said in this episode.

Mr. Martini

Thanks!

Fubuki

yep, the link seems to be borken somehow. Link to soundcloud : https://soundcloud.com/jimquisition/podquisition-381-take-a-deep-breath

It's not playing for me for some reason. Every time I click the "play" button, I get a link to "https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-Gd05DyW2yOgMlzqv-7kTZyQ-t500x500.jpg" and nothing else.

News links are broken.

Dr. Judge, Private Eye

"Both sides are equally bad" is an intoxicating brew to drink. To say nothing of, with the political makeup of this country, more than 2 parties would guarantee a Republican super-majority. It'd be Germany in the '30s all over again, probably more literally than we'd like to imagine.

Dr. Judge, Private Eye

bullcrap, if the dems were as right-wing as you say someone like AOC would never have gotten elected period, so spare me the tiresome red-brown shirt nonsense. It is not 100% accurate in the least, softer my ass, rethugs are the soft ones as they whine about everything(so much so that they've decided to not even show up to the presidential debates anymore cause they got all butthurt over being owned repeatedly). Most dems aren't trying to destroy unions and are in fact trying to do something about global warming genius, quit following Glenn Greenwald and step back into the real world.

Firestorm

Oh i'm perfectly well aware of Jim being trans, I wasn't living under a rock for the past 2 years ya know. That makes their ignorant "both sides are EEEEEEEEVIL!" nonsense even more glaring. I love Jim but that does not mean they are above any and all criticism and when they say something profoundly wrongheaded I will call it out everytime, otherwise they'll never learn. Jim never would've changed their old "edgy" humor style if nobody had ever called them on it back then, so it's for that reason that I must call them out for their ignorant and flat-out incorrect viewpoints here until they learn from it and correct their mistakes.

Firestorm

I became a Patron again just to dispel some of the nonsense going on in this discussion. Steph DID NOT say that the Democrats and Republicans were the same. They said that the Democrats are right wing, which they are. They've been a right wing party since the 90's. They also said they were softer. This is also 100% accurate. The Dems will still try to destroy unions and prop up the corporations, but they will occasionally make sad mouth noises about climate change (without taking action) and probably probably genocide less groups in their own country than the Republicans (or at least pretend to be sad about it).

allie

Enough teasing, if Laura got the way open to the Eldar Black Library she gotta share.. cmon sister give us the sauce

Philippe Lafreniere

Uh, Steph IS trans, and is probably aware how Dems support (and fall short of supporting) minorities that Republicans are attacking.

Arlo Millich

Yeah it's too bad Jim seemingly does not realize that, though not all dem leadership is like that. I am let down by Newsom though, he seemed pretty good and I never thought he'd be involved in this Activision stuff.

Firestorm

You can have bad actors in both of america's political parties and one of them still be worse than the other, believe it or not. Having a two-party political system is still terrible, and democratic party leadership is kicking and dragging its feet on every inch of the progress its younger voters want, but it isn't actively seeking to harm anyone in order to expand its power.

Thomas Halpin

Yeah it's a shame Jim was naive enough to fall into their trap, and I have to say by painting ALL dems with the same brush including minorities Jim is coming off as kind of racist there considering how hard minorities fought to get dems elected. I think Jim has lost perspective with how things are in the U.S. since they moved to the U.K.

Firestorm

It can be easy for people who only follow politics casually to fall for the centrist "both sides" narrative, but it's a narrative spread by right wingers into more left spaces with the goal of disempowering that left. It's easy to see why it's such a powerful narrative though, as many Democrats are *almost* as bad as the best Republican, and that should be unacceptable. They are both right wing parties... but one is clearly far worse. Edit: Finished the episode. I don't think Steph actually said anything I disagree with.

Arlo Millich

Sorry Jim can't agree with you on the "Dems are the same as right-wingers" tract, that's just blatantly untrue, just cause a few dems like Newsome are being shitty does NOT automatically mean they are all the same. I mean do you see dems defending the attempted insurrection or accusing ALL LGBTQ people of being "groomers" or whining about "Critical race theory"? Didn't think so. This "both sides are equally evil" nonsense has to stop as it's not remotely productive at all and accomplishes absolutely nothing whatsoever, at the very least you can't seriously believe someone like Ilhan Omar is the same as Majorie Taylor Green or Lauren Boebert, you don't see dems spouting Qanon crap. Really dissapointed to see you promoting these kinds of falsehoods, I thought you were above that.
