We can't believe this is one of BTS' songs from over 10 years ago AND it has a rock theme? ๐ค What genre can BTS not do, honestly?! ๐ We absolutely loved this one (with Gabs clearly having the time of his life rocking out to this ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ)! I think our favourite part collectively was the choreography (guys did you see the car?!) - what was yours when you heard Boy in Love for the first time? โบ๏ธ

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but someone has said that this Boy With Luv (2019) is their answer/companion song to Boy in Luv (2014). Not only is it paying respect to their roots but also showing their maturity and a way to make up for what people were accusing them of misogynism. Also you will notice similarities in their choreography. Their ending poses for both songs are the same, formation and gesture wise. Also at the bridge part of the song, pre 3rd chorus, the boys were in the same formation. You see Namjoon standing and facing forward, hiding Jin and then revealing Jin after when it is his time to sing. This is paid homage to in Boy With Luv choreography where Namjoon raps and then reveals Jin, where he kisses and throws the rose. So there you go :)

The "bad boy" and aggressive image was something that was super popular back then in Korea especially. Also, the video is supposed to showcase emotional immaturity of teenage boys being confused about their feelings. While I do think the video in of itself may be problematic today, looking at it in the context of back then it makes sense. The boys wanted to showcase how teenage boys were emotionally immature and them fighting with their masculinity versus the "love" that they feel. War of Hormone which was released not long after also deals with that concept and the lyrics nowadays are very very questionable... (I still love both songs very much hahaha!!!) Also the fact that the girl in the MV doesn't really react is super significant. It makes her even more unattainable and also showcases that the song wasn't supposed to be about romance but actually about the chaotic inner experience that happens to a teenage boy when having a crush on someone. I think it's still important to react to their early discography because it shows how much the boys grew and how their lyricism developed from concepts that relate to teenagers to concepts that relate to adults. The choreography to this though is chef's kiss because it fits the aggressive vibe of the song!!! Gabs reactions were literally me when I first saw the choreo to this song hahaha!

I find it problematic, to say the least, and I think we can all acknowledge that the general media landscape (domestic and international) re: violence against women back then was just bad. Not that it is much better now, but I'm glad BTS (and Big Hit) in particular learned from that time, and moved away from that image and approach. Can't wait to see what songs you choose next!! And how the songs fit into your top 5 (or Gabri's top 150 hahah the end panic shout-outs to Black Swan and Blood, Sweat, and Tears ๐๐๐๐).

2025-04-09 12:39:37 +0000 UTCi loved it a lot the first time i heard because back then i was heavily into rock music so it was closer to the sound i used to listen to. it made the transition to becoming their fan much easier haha also this mv is quite funny because jin kept apologizing the actress on set hshs its awesome how they responded to boy IN luv with boy WITH love haha you should check the song out again with lyrics (even in your own time) because it shows much more mature side of them <3
