If anything this just proves that it is very easy for Lucas to fall in love. I won't say it doesn't matter when Lucas says he loves Lindsey, but clearly, he can be smitten with two girls at the same time, so it doesn't mean he still doesn't love Peyton. You would think Lucas would learn from that in high school? I'm also just a bit annoyed at the writers because although I agree Lindsey is... fine (I find her a bit boring and flat though), we can do the Peyton and Lucas angst without Luke being with another woman? Idk it's frustrating.
