Firefly Serenity ♡Uncut Reaction &Review ♡

Sophie, that was the best short and to the point analysis of The Operative that I ever heard! I hope you don't mind me falling in love with you, you sultry minx... :D

When Inara calls Serenity and talks to Mal, we see some continuity from the series: Mal still has scars visible from Crow's blade (Train Job) and from Niska's 3-pronged torture device (War Stories) and at least one more I'm not sure about.

You mentioned the "tour" of the ship in the beginning. It seems to be one continuous shot and that would've been AMAZING. Even though it's actually TWO continuous shots put together, it's still pretty amazing. The cut is almost seamless and comes at the top of the steps (the camera pans left and then back, and then Mal and Simon descend). They had to do it this way because they had two separate sets for the ship. They did not use any crew quarters or passenger dorms so they didn't need those sets, just the two main levels common areas. (EDIT: They do use a set for Mal's room in one short scene.) In the earlier scene where the doctor falls on the Operative's sword: The first time one watches this movie, EVERYONE focuses on what is HAPPENING, and miss what the Operative is SAYING: "Young Miss, I'll need all the logs on behavioral modification triggers. We'll have to reach out to River Tam and help her come back to us. No matter how far our..." and the doctor falls and dies. Missing what he is saying here is why most people wonder why the Hell River starts beating everyone up in the Maidenhead bar on Beaumonde. Earlier yet, in the classroom scene, that is actually Summer Glau's voice you hear when the girl playing young River speaks. The star system shown is "officially" incorrect but as it doesn't impact the movie, so what? There are actually five main stars plus several protostars (supposedly ignited by man), and all have enough planets around them to terraform into new habitable worlds (plus several that can't be terraformed for whatever reason). White Sun is the Core planets (Londinium, Osiris, Ariel, Sihnon, etc). Red Sun and Georgia are mainly Border worlds, Kalidasa and Blue Sun are mainly Rim worlds. Burnham is a protostar on the edge of Blue Sun system and Miranda orbits that.

You mention in the fight scene that it is a "slayer is born" moment. There is a fan theory about River, that speculates that she is a Slayer, so it might not be so far fetched.

Cool; did not know that ... S3 E13 "Waiting in the Wings"

From the moment you started watching Firefly I was waiting for you to get to THE MOST BADASS SCENE IN A MOVIE EVER. You are 100% right, MEGA BTVS vibes with River (even in the score, the beginning is pretty close to the BTVS finale battle score). The choreography is amazing and you can tell how good and well trained Summer Glau is as a dancer. She is flawless (if you remember, she was the main dancer in the cursed ballet episode in Angel).

Wash's death was shocking, to the point where my brain almost couldn't comprehend what was happening. Very similar to Anya's sudden death in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Zoe's reaction reveals so much about her character as well - she always puts the mission first, and is probably used to losing close friends & loved ones after fighting in the war.

Henry

I think Fox might be the only network where their cancelled shows are usually much better than the shows they allow to stay on the air.

I have watched a couple of other reactors reacting to this series, and I have to say, I loved yours the best, SoFie! Wash's and Shepard Book's deaths are truly heartbreaking 💔! Thank you so much for your reactions, SoFie !

This has been such a wonderful experience watching you love this series. I saw the movie first when I was younger because my brother saw the cover in a video store and thought it looked cool. After I found out it was based on a series I knew I had to watch it. It had barely aired here in Australia so I had to do some tricky pirating to download the episodes and watch them. And I fell in love. Joss Whedon described this series as a character study and it is fantastic. It fills me with so much and happiness and heartbreak everytime I see a new reactor watch this masterpiece. The short lived series and a movie that leaves you devastated and more invested in their world than ever is such a slap in the face when you know how Fox fucked it up. Thank you for letting us be a part of this, to see your laughter and your tears and to watch you fall in love too, has been a joy. Closing this small but meaningful chapter. Thank you xoxo

Best reactor on the internet :) - i just love how much you love and know the show and characters.

Roy Ben-Ami

you say that about the characters precisely because you haven't watched the show. anyway this movie is about wrapping up the plot and doesn't really focus on the characters, but the show is alll about character work so you're missing out :) except if you're a plot dude

madfem

you might want to try Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog sometime. It is just 45 minutes in total, but another example of pure Joss.

Ezekiel

thank you for a great reaction! i think the show, combined with this movie, is a perfect, whole story. this movie shows Joss Whedon's brilliance.... but also of course his inclination towards sudden heartbreaking death. i am glad i got to relive this with you!

Another thing from the beginning when they let that guy die when they could have taken him with showed me there is no heroes here there are bad guy and villains. At least The Operative tells u who he is he’s an open book. Simon knew the whole time River was a ticking time bomb and didn’t tell anybody if The Operative played the message on the ship she would have killed the whole team.

I never watched the show thankfully people didn’t need to when they made this movie the show never intrigued me. People hoped this movie would help bring back the show I never thought that would be cuz the way The Operative’s was a beginning, middle and an end. The characters did nothing for me except The Operative he is the best part of the movie. Nothing without him in it would have worked. He’s the perfect villain cuz he knows who he is and doesn’t care. The Operative is a top 10 movie villain of all time he’s top 3 for me and he only needed one movie while other movie villains have many episodes and movies. Mal threatening The Operative at the end is funny he thought he won the fight no Mal u got lucky cuz he couldn’t be paralyzed Mal telling him that is something he wouldn’t forget. So if they ever fought again the fight would be over in a minute he would kill Mal with ease.
