Echo is called for an unusual job - her mind is imprinted with the memories of a hostage negotiator to help a man retrieve his daughter from kidnappers. Meanwhile, an FBI agent is determined to find out if the Dollhouse is an urban myth.

The Science-Fiction aspect of the show is that the Dollhouse has developed the technology to copy a person's memories and personality, and store them on those tapes that get put in the top of the chair. They can also cut and paste memories and personality from someone and leave the person as a blank-slate doll like Echo, and then insert a new personality to create an Active like Eleanor Penn.
