Not all comets are made of ice. There are comets made of rock. Of course, it can be really cold in space so even rock comets can be frozen. But when a comet comes into the atmosphere of the earth it will heat up and ignite. So when it's in our atmosphere there is fire that's why we can see them.

The village leader noted that as the solstice approaches that the line between both worlds is blurred. Just as Aang went to the spirit world, spirits (for a moment) could come into ours.

2024-05-21 00:59:16 +0000 UTCI think Roku destroyed the temple because the fire sages turned away from their duty and disrespected his legacy. I guess you're right that comets aren't really made of fire but maybe its more about what people believe things to be rather than what they are.
