Personally season 4 is my favourite season. The Snow Queen’s plan was always such a sinister and depressing one that it stuck out to me, and it linked to Emma’s backstory which I loved because she’s my fave. She’s managed to feel like such a strong main character all while maintaining an almost perfect relationship with Henry, Hook, and Regina. Speaking of Regina, this “Happy Ending” storyline is brilliant, the mystery surrounding this author had me hooked. I’m rewatching this with you for the first time in probably like 7/8 years and I’m still hooked trying to remember where the story goes next.

In retrospect this is such a necessary backstory to have at this point in the show because as you say we’re actually kind of rooting for Maleficent to break free and get her revenge, at least on Stefan. Not every audience member may feel that way but the pairing up with a much kinder and more innocent version of Regina, and then the imagery them in cuffs, creates a much more sympathetic villain. Usually with our villain backstories (Regina, Rumple, Cora) you don’t root for their more merciless moments but now the storyline is doing a deeper exploration into villains overall, the writers take this time to make us want to root for their villainy, even if in small ways.

I've always loved the first half of season 4 and the whole Frozen arc. It's probably one of my favorite parts of the show, so I'm not sure why people criticize it so much. Honestly I was never attached to the movie but I became really attached to this show's version of the characters, and it makes me sad to say goodbye to them. The actress for Anna was perfect in the role too. I'll admit that I'm not really a fan of the queens of darkness storyline though. Maybe the vibes are too cheesy for me? I have a hard time really connecting with any of them or taking them seriously as villains. But I enjoy the episodes because there's still enough going on that I do like. Emma and Hook are probably the highlight of the second half of this season for me.

Next one please! Spoiler, It's a good one!
