NEW GAME VIDEOS: Early 80's Arcade Triple Bill!
Added 2023-10-31 17:50:42 +0000 UTCHey hey. I've made three shorter vids over the past few days, which I intend to release gradually on the main channel but naturally, I'm putting all three up now here. I've got plans for more in this vein -- these three in particular are early 80's Arcades that are certainly intriguing, but don't really warrant a really big vid or anything like that as they're kind of obscure. It's nice in any case to have a couple of vids in the pump, so to speak -- hopefully I'll get at least another one written before I go on my trip this week. Sorry that they're only links -- I can only embed one vid on a Patreon post and I didn't really want to flood everyone's inbox.
Reactor is a pretty fun 1982 arcade game from Gottlieb by Tim Skelly. It's kinda pinball-esque in that you try and bounce enemy particles into the "kill wall" that surrounds the titular power source while avoiding it yourself, it's got a nice minimalistic presentation, and it does contain a rather important arcade first.
Tactician is a 1981 arcade, developed by Konami but released by Sega/Gremlin. This game seemed to completely fall through the cracks, unfortunately -- possibly because at first glance it looks like the sort of fixed space shooter that was ten a penny since the release of the likes of Space Invaders and Galaxian. However, it has a very interesting gimmick that's not often seen in such games of building your own defenses, and this gives the game a decent amount of depth -- it's a really good one that deserved more.
Vortex is a British arcade game from 1980, released by Zilec Electronics. This is a pretty cheap Asteroids-esque game, hacked up in Space Invaders hardware. It's not a very good game to be honest, but I found it was worth looking at for a couple of reasons; firstly because there aren't too many classic British arcade titles out there, and most importantly because this is likely the first arcade game that the legendary Chris Stamper worked on. It's one of the first steps of a British gaming legend.
Hopefully you enjoy these three shorter videos, as well as the wrestling vid that I put up earlier. Something for everyone today! Have fonn.
