That, and it just repeats the point. Most mages are absolute worst.

2025-11-20 18:08:03 +0000 UTCDisclaimer: I am not trying to justify Tokiomi, but I will explain a little better the reasoning for giving Sakura for adoption: As you know, mages only pass the family secrets to 1 child. And if there are more children, they are given for adoption or raised without any knowledge of magic. The thing is Sakura and Rin were born with insane potential, and both needed the protection a mage family can provide. If Tokiomi had raised Sakura as a normal person, she would always be in constant danger of kidnapping from the Mage Association or factions of it. The Tohsakas do not have great political standing, so they could only provide protection for their heir. This is why Tokiomi looked for Sakura to be adopted. As a side note, with this he also increased the Tohsaka family chances to prosper and reach the root. So it was a win-win from a mage perspective Sadly for Sakura, but fortunate for Tokiomi, the Matous asked for them to adopt Sakura. Since the Matou family has a long history, and also are in search for the Grail, Tokiomi gladly accepted. In any case, the adoption went really bad because it was the Matou family who adopted Sakura. There is actually an alternate timeline where Sakura is sent to another family (which was actually the first option before the Matous asked for her) and in that family she is happy and leading a good mage life As to why the Matous did not adopt her in that particular timeline? Well, thats a story for another Fate series
