We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

He should really have contacted the lawyers of Davis and Main for help

Yes. The writers did everything they could short of having Chuck write a death note to make it clear. Like, what is the confusion here??

Arthur

I find it so tragically poetic that after Jimmy & Kim gaslit Chuck so hard, he ultimately died by gas light. These writers man.

Cara M

Yep. He had destroyed his career, his relationships with everyone who cared about him and lastly his home! and he was back to square one with his illness. No doubt he saw no way back from there

Duncan

Starting with Chuck holding a lantern while he tells Jimmy a story and ending with the lantern falling is so tragic.

Munir

Agreed you could tell by the look on his face. Just before the final kick aswell.

AlrightThere

I agree with you there that Howard is the bog standard good guy of the show. He gets portrayed in a bad light at times but compared to everyone else hes done the least amount of "bad". Even Kim has had her fair share of slippin Jimmy action and has turned a blind eye to Jimmys shenanigans.

AlrightThere

Talking of foreshadowing one I really like which applies here is Season 1 Episode 5. When Dr Cruz says to Jimmy that Chuck is a danger to himself she mentions the gas lanterns and that he could end up burning his own house down. Subtle moments like this coming up in normal conversation not meaning too much at the time is incredible foreshadowing. Even with the pictures Mike took Jimmy really took a fancy to the picture of the gas lantern.

Got couple of points after this season. Firstly, I think Howard is the most morally good MAIN character of the lot, even Kim. Sometimes he is a dickhead, but he isn't evil, and I think the show does a good job of making us think he's being a selfish asshole when he's being genuine and sincere, and when he is an asshole most of the time it's understandable. Secondly, despite chuck being a pos to jimmy, when you think about it, Jimmy's first big lie and manipulation with the billboard in season one wasn't in response to anything Chuck did, it was a selfish act, so you could argue that he started the fire and chuck made it worse. Finally, I think Chuck didn't mean what he said to Jimmy personally, you can catch his reaction very briefly before the camera cut away when he seemed to stifle a cry, I think he was being petty and vindictive in that moment because he blamed Jimmy for the series of events that led to him to give up the law, and unlike us Chuck didn't know that Jimmy directly caused the insurance problem. Both Chuck and Jimmy caused the ending of that episode together, but Jimmy gave the fatal blow.

James Waters

Yes, the reading of the letter also happens after Jimmy already knows he caused this.

Pablo

Of course he’s gonna grieve for his brother, it’s still his brother after all. I’m not saying he has fully embraced the Saul persona, I’m saying this is when it starts to truly take over. The monotone, neutral reading of the letter from episode 2 and Kim’s reaction to it shows this. Jimmy’s transformation into Saul is still gradual, but I think this is arguably the biggest catalyst up to this point.

Chuck was suing the firm for his share of the firm’s equity, so it was his choice to leave the firm. He absolutely took the money. He took the $3M check from Hamlin with him before he left the office, with the understanding that the check was the first of 4 payments that he will receive from the firm, as explained by Howard.

N M

masterful performance from Michael McKean as Chuck McGill.

Nick Wright

Even though Chuck can be a PITA, it was sad to see him regress so quickly. He pushed everyone away who could have encouraged him to continue on his journey to overcoming EHS. The difference between Chuck and Jimmy is Chuck holds a grudge and won't give it up. Chuck never forgave Jimmy for his past wrongdoings in any way. I think the scene with their mother calling out for Jimmy right before she died really got under Chuck's skin as he showed in Jimmy's hearing by saying "not our Jimmy" about his parents looking the other way. I kept rewatching to see how Gus knew Nacho had switched Hector's pills out. When Nacho was picking up the pills from the ground, Gus was in the middle of chest compressions to keep Hector's blood flowing until the EMTs arrived

Lyn Hurst

my opinion atleast

Wbare

Chuck 100% did it on purpose as sad as it is he reached his final breaking point.

Wbare

I do know what happens next, that's why I disagree. This was the most Jimmy Jimmy has ever been, taking responsibility for putting kim in a shity position, and taking responsibility for what he did to Irene. Even after Chuck said that to him. Literally the next episode proves this, since you can clearly see Jimmy grieving for his brother until he gets told by Howard that this was triggered by the insurance thing which he himself triggered. So no. It's not that Chuck drained the emotion of Jimmy towards him. It's more having the knowledge that he caused his own brother's death and his inability to cope with that.

Pablo

Will always be team Chuck. If it wasn't for Mike and Nacho stuff, i wouldn't have made it past season 1.

db

Couldn’t disagree more, and if you know what happens next you’d know why I’m saying this. He may have tried to rectify things, but Chuck drained Jimmy’s emotion towards him out completely. There are certain scenes in both episodes 1-2 of season 4 that clearly prove this.

Alex I.

Well... if Chuck didn't burn it down, he definitely got mesothelioma from all that insulation in 2003

J_Fley .

Hard disagree with the last part. Yes, saying that line was cold af. But I think after that scene Jimmy actually wanted to prove Chuck wrong and prove that he actually can change. That's why he went back on his previous scam and destroyed his reputation, give up the money just because he wanted to restore Irene's life. Jimmy's soul doesn't die when Chuck says that to him, if anything it makes him more Jimmy.

Pablo

Couldn't agree more with you about Chuck. Imagine caring for someone you love your whole life, constantly making sure they're looked after. Then imagine finding out that this person has been screwing you behind you're back for years, simply out of spite and jealousy. Then imagine this person tells you that you never mattered to them. As far as I'm concerned, Chuck killed Jimmy's soul in that scene, and caused for Saul Goodman to start to take over

Alex I.

They don't go through the constructs of Chuck's partnership agreement with the HHM partners/board, but from my understanding, he didn't take the money; he was bought out. It wasn't his choice.

Steven

This show is so amazing
