I doubt Lana will ever betray Monica. She is way too genuine in wanting to make friends. She also is the first example for Monica of a friend who doesn't judge her and doesn't want a transactional relationship. As for Bernie... I initially hated him for turning evil and traumatizing Monica. But we also saw that his first instinct was to save someone who needed help, without expecting anything in return, because that's what someone in his position should do. So it's not like he is irredeemable. I also get how the situation could have been misinterpreted by him. Still, I feel like he should have realized that someone who truly wanted to boast about the position and mock him would not have fallen into tears after his insults. So, it's not just a misunderstanding anymore, his bruised ego clouded his judgement and led him to do something he shouldn't have. When I watched this episode, I would have expected him to stick to this evil role, but with you pointing out the fair misunderstanding, I now think that there is a chance he will regret or has regretted the harsh words he said. It's not like he threatened her at the end of the episode, he just tried to figure out if it was her (Monica is not a very reliable narrator). Now, all that's left is to see if the tournament is an opportunity for him to show his growth or confirm that his ego gets the better of him (if Monica gets over her panic in front of him).

2025-09-12 23:12:43 +0000 UTCThe friendship between them has always been toxic the anime doesn't show just how much of an ass he really is even after he became her "friend" she was still being subjected to bullying by others and he would ignore it because he got off on the fact that monica always came to him crying for help because it made him feel superior. In the end he was jealous ass with with a chip on his shoulder and an inferiority complex.
