I think the Hobbit films are OK. They are nowhere near the LOTR films, but they aren't awful either. IMO they're just average. I think the casting was actually quite good, and when I read The Hobbit I now picture Martin Freeman in the lead role. Likewise, I thought the casting for Smaug was also on point, so much so that I almost wish that he were a bigger character. Overall they were just dragged out too much with too little time dedicated to polishing the script or production. But if you've already seen and read everything else you may as well give them a watch. They're worth watching if only to spot the differences between Jackson and the original animated work, and to give context to the LOTR if you had never read The Hobbit.

Yeah, I try to keep it under wraps, but I’ve been reading Tolkien since I watched the original airing of The Hobbit back in ‘77 (I think). Sorry if I spout off Tolkien trivia. I do stand by my advice to skip The Hobbit movies; New Line got greedy.

That's right. So many different elves hard to make heads or ears of them.

Bill the pony has a happy ending, though it’s never mentioned in the movie. Galadriel is one of the oldest beings in Middle Earth, between 7 and 10,000 years old. The elves of Lothlorien are High Elves as opposed to Wood Elves.
