2021-05-24 20:19:10 +0000 UTCThe creature in the water is called The Watcher and it is considered one of the old ones, so it is even older than Sauron. Very little is known of them in the books beyond that.

Yea, Goblins are like a sub-species of orc and there are many types in the LOTR world. Uruks are the biggest species and Uruk-hai are Saruman's special take on Uruks. It all depends on the location of the pits that they breed in (it is not fully established in the books how they reproduce). As for Sauron and the Ring, they searched for it, but couldn't find it for thousands of years. They can generally sense it, but they did not know exactly where until they captured Gollum, who went to Mordor to look for the ring. Sauron can only take physical form again when his spirit is reunited with the Ring. Sauron was originally a descended spirit, like the Wizards and Balrog of Moria, that can take on different physical forms. Hope that answers your questions in some way. The books are a good read and add a lot of interesting backstory.
