Dev Diary #7

Hello everyone,

Back to regular Dev Diaries, I want to take a moment to share some context behind the recent delay and what’s been happening behind the scenes.

Initially, my goal was to release in July, anticipating a busy August for me personally. Unfortunately, that didn't pan out. I believe in not rushing to release something that doesn't feel polished. It's not just about the visuals either, the actual script is crucial since it is what I believe makes or breaks a game - but also the one part that is harder to get right first time.

This update is pivotal, marking a significant turning point in the story. I’m confident that the additional time invested will be well worth it.

Despite the busy August, I'm pushing hard to deliver this update within the month. Your patience during this busy period is appreciated.

Developing two distinct routes is almost like crafting two different stories. Each path not only needs to stand on its own but also make sense within the shared universe, with unique facets of the characters. This approach has added complexity to the development, influencing the recent delay but I have no regrets about going this direction, it just feels right and the outcome is looking pretty awesome.

With that said, to really make it work I realized I had to do some retroactive work to incorporate this concept properly earlier in the game. A refined take on the old NTS Points if you are from that time. This tweak isn't game-breaking, but it introduces a few new minor choices and a couple of additional CGs to older scenes. All of this will make sense if you play it again but new players will appreciate that.

And speaking of new content, today’s Dev Diary CG gives you a hint of how one of the paths concludes the party — nothing crazy but I can spoil that one ends with a rushed taxi ride home, the other with a slow night walk. How do you think these choices will impact the story? I wonder what happened 😉

This moment is not a saucy scene, just an interlude, but you can probably guess which outcome belongs to which path by looking at the image. I still really like this moment in the story.

Thank you for sticking with me and for your continued support!

As a dev that isn't necessarily true, if your design framework is build for it you're only spending e.g: 120% of the time in exchange for however many routes you want, there is also software like INK (Which i think even has a plugin for renpy) which does most of the heavy lifting for you

I appreciate your honesty and understand your perspective. Two points to consider: 1 - Not sure if you got the chance to player the earlier versions but the idea of two paths has been in the back of my mind since I started with NTS Points. When the opportunity arose, it felt natural to commit to it, despite the drawbacks you mentioned. 2 - I'm grateful for all support, regardless of when or how it's given. While ongoing support enables the project's existence, I completely understand viewing it from a product purchase/release schedule perspective. Please only support if you can afford to - any level of support, at any time, is deeply appreciated. All support helps a little so thanks for your support so far. I hope 0.6.x exceeds your expectations when you play it!

I am grateful for the decision to have distinct two routes, as it gives a significantly larger feel of agency to the player of the novel. I am really looking forward to this update.

I knew it would've been huge mistake to make 2 paths. I'm very dissapointed in your decision. Instead of fast 2-months update schedule we are now at 4-5 months schedule at best. You are losing some money from me, because I subscribe to the highest tier only on update release. But to each his own.
