"Choosing Flight" First Illustration from the new Dungeon Master Series!

FIRST LOOK AT OUR NEW DUNGEON MASTER SERIES!

Welcome to our first addition our new Dungeon Master Series

It is entitled, Choosing Flight. "Your thief had returned to the camp with treasure! Also: He is pursued by cave trolls..."

As with all the paintings in this series, this scene is depicting an event where everything is just about to go wrong for our adventurers, and the outcome is anyone's guess. Will the dice come through for us?? The initial goal for the series is a print set of 6 images from this series, and if that goes well, we will tackle another 6 for a possible calendar (Kickstarter maybe???).

Choosing Flight was drawn in graphite pencil, then painted in watercolor on bristol, with the colors punched up in Photoshop. I will be showing the watercolor method for this image in this month's Order of the Gryphon Tutorial. (Which will land December 30!) It will be a 2-part tutorial showing both the watercolor and digital sides of the process.

Thanks Justin. Wasn't aware of that, but my old CS6 has that feature. Will have to give it a try!

ahhhh I mean you said it, we have a $2000 Epson that we got used on ebay for $500. Tiling images together on a cheaper scanner always turned out bad for me so I eventually just had to bite the bullet and get an expensive one. That said, you still may have to tile images together yourself even with the larger professional scanners, and for that I do like using Photoshop's file/automate/photomerge tool. It's what I used for this one.

How do you handle scanning on a regular 8.5 X 14 scanner? Tiling images together is often an infuriating process, and large format scanners are apparently worthless until you get into the $1,500 range for an 11 X 17- a price I'd rather not pay.
