Happy Halloween, y'all, and welcome back to The Other Side! This is our purgatorial spectral realm filled with spooky bayou stories and Gothic Louisiana charm. This is our third release in this series of Other Side one-shots. You can also check out the riverboat murder mystery Radiance de Rosalie or the haunted house Tarragon Manor. Borough Guide

Our guide today introduces you to the shanty town known as Chélabas Landing. This outpost in the ghostly realm is filled with cultists who are desperate to bring their ancient god Auntie En Aval back to the living. While this guide does include an overview of the town, the focus of this setting guide is to help you GM a monster-of-the-week one-shot where your players confront the cult and then vanquish Auntie En Aval—an eldritch crab (can I get a hell yeah?)—for good.

Maps

Our main map today is the shanty town of Chélabas Landing. This is the first proper settlement we've explored that exists within The Other Side. How did the cultists build these buildings with spectral logs and incorporeal geometry? Who cares! It's an awesome arena within which to do some sleuthing or fight some cultists. We've got a slew of great variants for this one: Bayou, Desert, Pleasant, Rain, and Winter.

Patrons at the Chief Courier tier also gain access to three building interiors: Hiram's hut, Deacon Grover's Cellar, and the Roe House. These three spaces are key to the adventure, so you'll want your players to have access to the interior spaces!

Music

Auntie En Aval is eldritch combat music. This tune is spooky, weird, and aggressive. There's a hint of bayou twang underneath... but it's warped and crunchy. Of course, this is music for fighting an unholy crab. That much should be clear! If you want more traditional bayou combat music, use the Projection variant.

The Cradle | Brave New Worlds

We're excited to finally work with Brave New Worlds, an excellent cartographer making beautiful and instantly usable battlemaps. They created a map for The Cradle, a haunting but beautiful lagoon where the Chélabas cultists sacrifice victims to Auntie En Aval. This map is honestly stunning; such great light and colors. It's the perfect place to fight an eldritch crab.

Auntie En Aval's Lair | Stained Karbon Maps

We worked with our old buddy Krane from Stained Karbon Maps to bring you Auntie En Aval's Lair. As always, Krane's maps are exceptionally detailed and filled with vivid color. This map in particular is so weird and beautiful, filled with roe, stars, mangroves, weird eldritch mush, and more. It's the perfect place to fight an eldritch crab.

Ghost Ship | The MAD Cartographer

How is it possible that this is our first MAD Cartographer collaboration? Wild! We've been pals with the MAD team since like... 2020? Anyway, here's their ghost ship, a spooky vessel you might encounter along the Other Side's delta. This is quite possibly the first stop your party will make as they try to uncover what the deal is with Auntie En Aval and the Chélabas Cult. They might even end up having to face one of Auntie's projections aboard. It's the perfect place to fight an eldritch crab.
