Happy holidays everyone! That one roadblock is now gone - here's a WIP version of the new landscape, now 3x bigger than the original.

A few precautions: 

* Best to turn off shadows as they will flicker due to floating point precision issues

* Framerate is sub-optimal now - but still playable

[Edit 09.01.2020] Happy new year everyone! Time for some information about the last update and plans for the near future.

One of the reasons I extended the map is because I wanted to have longer road segments, so that the thrill of a car chase has more time and room to unfold. I think especially that long straight following the river is perfect for that.

Another reason is because I felt it needs more varied geographical locations for me to properly introduce the story later on. 

And of course I enjoy the driving on its own and felt it was time to expand (more on that below)  but maybe that's just me (and the patrons that wished for new roads :)) - I've heard many people say the demo map is huge already, although it is "only" 4x4km.

Right now, apart from "Panelak City", the landscape is still pretty bland and will be getting more detailed in the coming months. So we'll have the initial 4x4km region which is more recreational, with forests, fields, camping ground and cottage colonies and the new 4x8km region intended to become the rural region where food production took place, covered with factory farming facilities. 

During the past days, I tackled a big technical problem called floating point precision: the farther the player drives from the 3D-space origin, the more everything becomes unstable - camera shakes, physics break, geometry vertices start pulsating. You may have noticed that the shadows start flickering when driving around the new region. Long story short, I have a solution and managed to eliminate the flickering shadows yesterday. Don't want to bore you with this - it's just to say that the map for the full game could be 144km2, that's 3 times the current size, and I'm happy to have found a solution :)

Also spent time trying to figure out how to optimize and get better framerates - I made some good progress on that too.

Last thing before moving on to the roadmap: I have to admit that personally, I've been having much more good/tense times trying to escape from the good old Lada and Dacia type cars. Feels like the Tatra 613 & Aro 4x4 are too overpowered compared to the Skoda 120 - and while it's possible to outrun them on twisty roads, it is kind of no fun when you're on a straight one, and does break the tension somewhat. Maybe those could serve later on in the game, after the player car is sufficiently upgraded.


This is just a very basic roadmap of what's planned in any particular order:

* A story! -  presented through NPC subtitles & environmental storytelling

* A better and fairer vision/detection system - better ability to hide

* Reliable input system - support for driving wheels (gonna have to buy one myself)

* The player's identity in the game

This game is pretty cool, better than most driving games at that. Love the chase music and sometimes I just let them chase and listen its great keep up the good work. I don't know if you've added the upgrades yet, but if so is there one for more vehicle health?

Finally I got to play Beware by myself and not just watch videos from it and I gotta say that I absolutely LOVE the aesthetic! The lighting and atmosphere is out of this world! You did an amazing job so far and I can't wait to play Region 7/9 and the Last Region that JUST came out!

Hi. I have a problem with Spider Boy. While huntimg the bus to get his brother/friend (?) and I stop somewhere for a short time, he often leaves the car immediately even if the bus is still driving away. It seems if being very near the bus this event is triggered for the next own stop. He leaves, runs after the bus, freezes after some time somewhere (I think because the bus is too far away) and then I can not end this part anymore.

Hello, Mr Svadlena! I recently regained interest in this game thanks to IGP's videos, but first learn about it via Pewdiepie's video playing the original demo. I committed to becoming one of your patreons so I could play the "full" current game so I could flesh out the Fandom section of the game with in-depth info and good pictures. However, it seems to me that the link you provided is expired and thus I don't know how to get the most recent version. I have high hopes for this game and what it could become, keep up your fantastic work on this gem!

I could also use a list of mod tools for speed and 3rd person driving, if anyone figured out godmode or invisibility (no car, or not being detected, both sound cool when I say it) there could be more in the videos than just first person driving, something like a debug cam for the car while it's moving would really be the cherry on top, especially if you could pan around and steer at the same time...

Easy now, it's already been two months since the last update, don't put too much on the work list at once! Onderj, it's been a while since we spoke, I have been on vacation for the past couple weeks and couldn't do a lot of critical work recording or playing Beware. Having said that I should note I'm still technically on vacation until my family leaves so still a little busy. Couple things though: I managed to play around inside of the larger new area and explore some of the long stretching roads past the residential area. It is hard to remember where you've been without the town region to orient my car relative to, but I found some overpasses and eventually I came across a third power plant! I could tell the plant wasn't finished as there was no fuse box and most of the walls didn't have collision and I could drive right through them. I said hi to the pack of goons that met me there, their car seems a little different as if they were slower and easier to lose but were chasing me more consistently over long distances, helpful for the heat of the moment and good for exploring, if I can ever find them again. XD Secondly I wanted to ask about the snow in the game and if it will be an ongoing feature in the game, if there is a version of the game that is up to par and doesn't have snow or if there is a way to turn it off in the files it would be helpful for things like long playing and recording varied footage, leading to my next thing: The final thing I wanted to mention was that I now have OBS for recording gameplay! I've already run into some issues that come along with not knowing what I'm doing at all, basic stuff mostly. I wanted to post this publicly in case anyone here has some more know how in the game recording/editing/streaming area that might be able to give me a crash course or possibly even take my footage and make concise videos from it for me or someone else to talk over about the game and development. Thinking about it now it could be a cute team project for us to make some good looking coverage for Beware that touches beyond gameplay and streamer footage. My sort of mental template for this content would be largely the same for the kind of videos ObsidianAnt makes for Elite Dangerous, where he talks about updates and what they mean for the gameplay, while also revealing a couple useful tips for playing as well as the occasional opinion. Call it a call to action, maybe I'll throw it up in the social section here too for maximum effect. TL;DR: Take your time Ondrej but please keep us listening, I'm out of my work rotation but I'll be back to recording footage soon, anyone interested in helping leave a comment!

I have some suggestions for the game and the storyline: a introduction cutscene that is narrated by the player character explaining what happened, what is currently happening and etc. player monologue such as at the begining of the game "hmmm, the power is out, I better explore to see what happened" and in a chase "crap! they're after me, I need to loose them fast" when you drive to the babka "who is that? I think she's trying to show me something" the t613 chase "oh my god, they have a SUV! If I don't do something now I'm going to die!". Also maybe there should be a radio that plays mostly just static but occasionally you get a distress signal that ends with the sound of a door breaking and people running. The victim cars should also do a 180 turn when they see you if they are facing away from the destination so that it is less confusing. The death screen should also have a ear ringing sound that gets gradually muffled until it cuts out. Also just for making it better different people maybe make game modes, the normal gameplay now is normal, hard you have slightly decreased acceleration and you get spawned in a random location everytime if you have enabled power, easy you have slightly increased acceleration, pursuers have a decreased seeking range when they loose you, tire friction is slightly increased and it is easier to get unstuck from mud, for the 2 first respawns you can return to the location you died in (this will reset after you quit to the menu)

could you add in some sort of debug menu for the development period with some things like freecam, flip car, simple map, some player and AI car tweaking (such as torque, gear ratios, final drive etc etc). the car flip would be useful if you manage to flip your car and don't want to do the chase again, freecam and map could help you get around the map a little easier, car tweaks could be just for some experimentation

i think this could be fixed by adding more aggresive culling AKA making distant things drop in quality or use the fog as a advantage to reduce draw distance

no, what i meant is that i wanted a more custom expierience, i actually made the car go insainly fast by modifying a mutiplication value to multiply by a decimal and it causes the cars acceleration to mess up, i did it using a .NET reflector (idk what causes it, maybe it returns a negative value whitch the engine can’t handle)

lol the car does not go 270 kph lol it maxes out at 140kph. it only has 44HP. but i do see your point to make the game a little more fun..

don't worry about the frame rate he will fix it..... i have a gtx1080 and a 8086k clocked at 4.7GHZ and i do get low frame rates to . its worse when you drive in to place were there is a lot of lights...but dont worry he knows about it

you were right when you said that this has sub-optimal framerate, my laptops RTX 2070 is running the game at 30 fps as aposed to 80fps, i really hope i don't have to go down to 1280x720 resolution

just for people to know that xbox 360 wheels are already compatible with the game as windows detects them as a regular xbox 360 controller, this should also work with newer controllers/ wheels for xbox

This game is amazing. I'm glad to finally become a patreon. There is nothing else like this and the graphics and atmosphere as truly stunning coming from a single person, scratch that EVERYTHING is amazing coming from a single person. I really hope you can finish this game as it's so unique and intriguing I love finding new things to move the story ahead. The game is still super new to me. I have no clue about the bunnies, the old lady in the woods, the abandoned cars. I just learned how to shake the people(?) at the dam/power station so I can explore more safely. I have not watched any videos or anything because I want to find everything on my own and i want to be surprised. All I know it's it's not finished and there will be more to come but right now I feel that I have so much to find out and explore hopefully the game will be done or close to it once I solve everything so far in the game. Adding VR and wheel/pedal support in the future will just be icing on the cake or should i say oil to the engine, haha. Ondrej, keep up the great work as it's soooo amazing so far

Super! To bude velkéé! Je nějaká šance na mapu přímo ve hře? Třeba taková, která by se (po vzoru strategií a jejich shadow of war) postupně odhalovala jen tam kde hráč projede. Nebo po vzoru Spintires, kde je třeba objet jen několik bodů a mapa se postupně odhaluje. Nebo jiný nápad. Vezmu stopaře do auta a dá mi za odměnu automapu... Těším se na příběh!

Thank you! I'll look into the mouse lock (I've seen it to be a more frequent complaint, especially with streamers) - if I remember well, it's a setting inside the Unity editor/ or one line of code, so should be no issue at all.

I have similar problem. For me the brake is released only when it is pressed halfway (You can see this from brake lamps). It seems the pedal axes are centered at the middle. In fact, release/floor the gas pedal result in full left/right when it is bound to steer. My guess is that the input from the gas/brake pedals are under-flowed when they are not pressed more than halfway, or only the magnitude is recognized, since those axes does not accept negative value. Another thought is that the game mixes up the gas & brake input. That is a default functionality when you use Xbox controller. Funny thing is that the game does not recognize the pedals when you activate "combine pedals" option from logitec profiler.

works good. (RX580, Ryzen 9 3900X). Only issues when using a Steering wheel as input (G27). I cant floor the Gas Pedal. When I push it completely down, the car stops as if breaks are applied. I always need to hold the paddle somewhere in the middle. In V006 VR the car would only accelerate when the break was pushed a bit. I experimented with inverted axes and other options in the Logitech software, but could not figure out. Is this expected behavior? btw. V006VR Worked good for me with a Oculus CV1.
