Cancelling my subscription. I might check back in the future but for the moment the car physics in the latest version (11) aren't enjoyable at all. It feels like a boating simulator.

I think I probably know the reason for that - try turning off the sound completely when comparing new car physics with the old one. Technically, the new car physics properly simulate wet surfaces where the old car physics would simulate dry conditions. So now it's sliding more, but still the steering allows for more control. The car bouncing has been reduced by popular demand, but that could be a potential option in the settings. Most importantly though, the sounds are generated by the new car physics plugin - that was to test if better performance can be achieved. So v011 does not use my own audio programming work, and this makes a big difference in the feel of the driving. Eventually I'll be re-using my own work dealing with audio. Lastly, engine sound is much more muffled in v011 as compared to previous versions - that also makes a big difference in the feel.

Hello! I tried this recently in vr with my logitech G29 wheel and pedals, and the game said it didn't recognize a wheel in that slot, and defaulted to the keyboard. Any idea what I can do about that?

I hope that the graphics of the goons remain at least as disgusting and scary, and that something remains of their strange body structure and movement when they get out of the car. :D Without a doubt, they are the most iconic characters for me, their looks and behavior did a lot to make me like the game in the long run.

No worries. Each update is a separate game, and has specific gameplay, like activating switches, finding passengers and car chases. There's more info in each of the posts. v011/v011VR is the newest update with all the maps connected, new car physics and VR, steering wheel & controller support. There are no enemies there, yet. That's coming up in the next update.

Although story-driven safe-spots/checkpoints are planned for later, I could add some rudimentary checkpoints to this version - give a couple days :) As for "exploration mode" - definitely possible although I'd like to figure out some way to integrate it so it makes sense in the game's and ideally story's concept.

If ever you can setup a checkpoint system, would be great, cause I would like to explore some more, but can't always give 2 hours at a time. Also, the no-enemy version is really nice in itself. Changes the game from a tense and terrifying game, to a very chill pensive game. Whatever your final state of the game is intended to be, having an enemy-free "exploration mode" would be great !

For now it should re-center the camera's rotation only - the position (distance from windshield) will stay the same, unless you look downward before it re-centers. There's certainly room for improvement though. Maybe this lean-forward functionality could be limited for when we're stationary/low speed. As for the robotic re-center feel: ;)

I like the new mouse view, though the re-center has a weird effect where moving your camera snaps the camera back to where your mouse was before it re-centered. I like the idea behind leaning forward when looking up, I'm wondering though whether that could be disorienting when driving (under distress?) and the camera leans in unintentionally while looking at an object up ahead. I might just not be used to it, but maybe it could be a mouse keybind? Or leaning forward could be done with the scroll wheel? (Option toggle? I don't know how it would work on controllers.) I imagine it could be strange to lean forward, when you're just trying to look directly at the rear view mirror. Maybe my concern would go away if the sensitivity was adjusted. One final note, though minor is how the re-center feels like the camera belongs to a robot, it seems like the pathfinding is taking harsh diagonal and straight lines to re-center. You're probably already aware of it. All in all, I'll reiterate from an older comment that I'm really impressed with the performance, and really excited to see what comes next. The new mouse view certainly goes beyond what I was expecting.

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's like the water went into my eyes for a moment. It doesn’t bother me personally, in fact, I even like it, of course I understand that this is a bug. In any case, if you could never fix this bug, you should still be able to turn it on in the final version, because at 20FPS (with shadows and SSR on) it makes me feel like 30FPS and looks more like a movie visually, which gives it a better experience.

Sure, I like it too, but there's a bug with the water splashes from puddles - there's a weird unnatural distortion, at least on my machine. Once that's fixed it will be back :)

Or, if you've already done so, make it available in an even later versions. :D There was something similar in an older version (I think 001 or also 007). Movement is now much more lifelike, especially with low FPS. With an FPS of 30 and below, it throws a lot on the scene as it compensates for the skipping of the low FPS a bit.

So maybe I managed to solve something here :) The black bars are gone and I was able to record with OBS in Game mode - full application mode. There's a new toggle in the pause menu for Windowed/Fullscreen. The new build (v011 c) will be available in about 20 minutes.

I use MSI Afterburner, which is including RivaTunerStatisticsServer. I originally using for small OC, but it is also used for most Benchmark tests. Remember that it will not show the text by default, you will need to set it both apps (MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner) beforehand. Be sure to watch a tutorial about it, but if you’re curious about exactly my settings, I can show you.

Regardless, i think, it’s not a real (Exclusive) full screen, it’s a full sized solution with a borderless window. The newer version of Unity looks to do something different by default. Since I don’t use Unity, that’s all I found, and I think it’s the real full screen: https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/FullScreenMode.ExclusiveFullScreen.html I mean, when the screen goes dark for a short time when you switch between Windows Dekstop and the game, regardless of whether the resolution of the Desktop and the game use the same resolution. The real full screen has better performance, lower input latency, and I could also record with OBS in Game mode, and this version doesn't work, only in screen capture mode. In game mode, for some reason, I only got one still image and only recorded the sound.

To get real full screen resolution, you need to start the game first, set with mouse to full screen, then Alt + Enter. Now you start the game from the menu, wait for it to load, then use Alt + F4 to exit. Next time, your game will start in true full resolution and not in distorted quality. From there, you know you did something wrong if the next time you start in the main menu, the texts are also a bit blurry.

Here is a little test of the SSR vs Shadow settings. https://youtu.be/is2_2yLCPjo When shadow is on, SSR doesn't matter much, 1-2FPS difference. However, if shadow and SSR are disabled, it can do up to 10FPS more. With my card (gtx1650), the golden mean is to turn off the shadow and enable SSR. (Anyone, who can't download the new version, should open the incognito mode, because the browser seems to be seeing the old one due to a cookie/cache error. The new file should be BEWARE_v011_b.zip).

I played around the mirror cameras and resolution had not much effect. Only thing that did was disabling the camera. I''ll have to investigate more. For now there's a new option to disable SSR - it's v011 b. It some instances it does not matter that much when it's turned off. There are also newer versions of SSR which are better optimized and even work correctly in VR, but it's not reflecting all the volumetrics. The shadows are a tough one. I agree they are definitely a big improvement in the Last Region. As far as performance goes, in my case the shadow distance helps (now it's at 100meters) - I can try testing reducing the shadow resolution and providing back the flexibility of setting either 70m or 150m. Not too sure about the reflections of the streetlamps on pavement - for the windshield it's shader dependent and yes it may be too strong. Overall the migration from Unity5.5 to Unity2019.4 somewhat a letdown perf-wise, on the other hand we now have 1000m view distance instead of 400m, and a 9x bigger map. In all cases there's still room for improvements, a we'll need those with the vehicles and characters that will be added next.

Possibly Linux but can't promise 100%. I'd love to offer a mac version but every time I tested on a friend's machine, performance was pretty abysmal. Maybe the new processors are more capable, although it seemed to be bound to the mac's often under-performant GPUs.

Thanks for your comment below my video, here I will reply if I have an opinion/idea. Rearview mirrors are really important, I would never disable them. :D But if it were possible for the player to optionally set the mirrors to a lower resolution, the thing could still work, because what really matters is how close the enemy is to the player can be detected at low quality. I just checked out the Unity documentation to see what exactly this Screen Space Reflection is, and it really matters a lot in this game, especially its wet everything. Regardless, in the final version, you should be given the option to disable it or reduce intensity, because only those who have a weaker card will have a chance to achieve an enjoyable FPS. The other thing is that it seems to me like you’re using Hard Shadow (or does it just seem to me like close objects?), which is slower. Don't have a faster version of this? So either it has a more pixelated edge and/or is much more blurred, and players could also individually set this to off, low, or normal quality. In fact, there is only one place in the game where you would need to turn on the shadows, and that is the Last Region, because there is literally as if light is passing through the objects. Another little thing is that compared to the v007, on the already familiar roads where the street lights are on, the light reflection seems too intense and the raindrops on the windshield are also very sharp. Is this also part of Screen Space Reflection? If so, they should be set from the game menu to what percentage of this effect should be active, or if that is not possible, put it in a config file and we could set it before starting. On top of all that, now this version has the most beautiful graphics. :) Maybe the daytime is really too dark now, it should be a little brighter. Keep up the good work! Edit: I thought wrong about the Hard Shadow, now I’m reading that Soft Shadow is a more expensive solution. Rather, the question is whether the resolution of the shadow can be reduced.

Yep, this is using VPP instead of CarX. For one, the steering aid is more effective now - setting "steering assist" to 0.6 will give a feel more similar to the old physics. I was trying to match the "old" feel as much as possible while still respecting the real-world car physics of a skoda120. Also thinking about potential players that have no experience with driving games and making their first contact less intimidating. As for the story, yes, that will veer into more sinister avenues. Looking very much forward to implement that part :)

I like how well it runs. I read that you changed the car physics, the difference I noticed was that it felt much much easier to drive quickly & turn as long as it's not a harsh angle without an indicator. I might just be good at controlling cars but it seemed worryingly easier to control than when I played the older industrial area demo. In the industrial level with the cool crane cars, controlling the car was quite dangerous & took quite a fair bit of effort to go around swings quickly, died many times from losing control of the car. Seemed unrealistic for me to be able to control my car speeding through swings on a wet-leaf soaked road without spinning out. This might also be because I'm not being put under pressure to go faster from a chase, I get the concern that the old physics might be too difficult, and I wouldn't be against making it easier but this felt oddly breezy, personally. Great game, been following it for years :) Only side note would be how early the idea that you're escaping state thugs in a soviet state unfolds to something more sinister as soon as you see the first cars stranded off-road with the odd lit-up tents a minute or two into spawning, though I'm excited to see where it's going.

I guess that's due to my boy scout past and all the orientation training I've gone through :D Industrial maze is simple: drive toward blue light, switch on refineries lights, drive toward orange light, drive up "lamp hill", look for double lights, located above the 2 exits from maze, and drive to one of them. But yeah, I'm aware of the difficulty and thinking about better ways to design the navigation clues. To be honest, I got lost a couple of times myself :)

OK, that's strange. Just tested it on my side and it works. To be sure, I checked the french keyboard layout and "h" is at the same position. So I'm a bit clueless to be honest. In the future there will be the possibility to re-assign keys/buttons based on preference.

Best would be a video/gif or even a drawing. Also there are two types of mud: there's the normal mud/earth and there's the wet slippery mud where you can gain more grip by keeping the RPMs around 2000.

Thanks for the feedback Sven. Those are all issues that will need to be solved. That includes the way to navigate towards the last part of the map - which is not intuitive enough. Right now, you have to drive toward the blueish lit clouds over the transformer field, flip the switch to turn on the refinery lights, then drive toward the orange lit clouds - once there drive up the lamp hill and look for a pair of white lit clouds - those are above two exits from the refineries and toward the last part of the map.

What is the best channel of communication to report to you bugs/problems with the new release? I will write some down here: 1.- v011 release doesn't come with fullscreen and has no mouse look 2.- Mud in certain slopes pivots the car quite heavily towards remaining perpenticular to the slope, making many slopes inescapable traps.

Played some hours, explored much. Wow, very big map now. Did not found the last map-part yet. But almost everything else and many new things. Very cool. The car is sometimes a bit "wonky", but otherwise okay. I miss the option to look around with the mouse. So I could not see much from the scenery. It seems also darker even at daylight. The car lights did not help very much and I often did not see changes in the streets fast enough.

Thanks for the info :) I just uploaded a fixed VR version, where you can also increase or reduce resolution. I'll look into the SteamVR compatibility in the future. For now, I'm building another VR version where I've enabled "OpenVR" in Unity's VR settings. Maybe it will help (?) Should be available for download later this evening.

It does not stat in VR with my Valve Index :(. Yes I downloaded the correct one ^^, but it won't launch into SteamVR. Edit: Ok had to use Revive as it seems it's only for Oculus HMDs atm? Hope native support for Valve Index will be there also when it's finished :) For not it's working fine with Revive.

Amazing! I'm downloading it now. So happy to be able to play this new version and I hope you are doing well! Edit: So I gave it a shot (although it's a bright sunny day here, so it will be much better to play it tonight with all the lights turned off) and it's really cool to be able to play it with a Xbox controller! For those who are using this as well, I found that setting the "Steering assist" to 0.6 and the "Non-linearity" to 0.70 works pretty well. Still takes a bit to get used to though, as the car is pretty bouncy. But I can't wait to explore the full map for hours on end!
