Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #2

Hiya, everyone~

So, the second development log, here we are! As I said before, I'd like to dedicate this one to discussing a bit more about the general flow of things and how the gameplay works for Chapter Two this time around.

But before that, and to help ease concerns some people may have about the cast being largely human this time--I'd like to introduce a monster girl, or uh, a sketch of one at least, who is rapidly being finished. She's a bit of a trickster, and has made a sport of toying with humans that might be unfortunate enough to cross paths with her. ...I sure hope Matt can hold his breath for a long time.

Getting back to the main part of the dev log, however:

With the introduction of Rhan, the grand capital city of the country, Matt will be establishing a base of operations here (or more like, renting out a semi-permanent room at the inn, but calling it a base sounds cooler) where he will be able to undertake quests and grow as an adventurer while aiding the Queen in official royal tasks.

The royal tasks are considered the main plot, and happen at pre-determined times over the course of the game to keep the storyline going at a good pace, but in between these tasks Matt will find himself with several days of spare time in which he can spend as he pleases.

This then finally leads into the main gameplay of Chapter Two. On any given 'free' day, you will be able to freely navigate the city via menus to visit many of the places available within the city and to talk to many of the inhabitants. Some of which will have their own stories to tell and others might just give more general information about the land.

And who knows what you might discover by poking around the city enough? There will be all kinds of scenarios that unfold from visiting these places each day, so it definitely pays to not ignore them!

Exploration of the city can be ended either by undertaking a quest from the quest board in the center of town (more on those another day~) or by choosing to progress the day by simply sleeping it away. Though neglecting quests in favour of just progressing the main story isn't advised, for reasons that will become clear soon.

Additionally, the city is broken up into two phases:

Day - Before taking a sidequest. Most places will be open to visit.

Night - Only a few places will be open, though the inn will be bustling at this point of the night,

Certain events will only be possible to see at corresponding times of the day, though in most cases these will be fairly obvious to tell.

I understand this is a big departure from Chapter One's more linear style of progression, but I hope you'll find it fun to explore and discover the many secrets of the city~
