Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Extra Dev Log #1

Hiya there!

So, as I said in my last dev log, I wanted to post an extra one in the following day to gather opinions from you guys, my awesome patrons--the reason this project was able to get as far as it has done.

I want to be transparent with development--namely on the art side of things. If I'm being honest, it's been a bit of a battle to secure artists that have the intention of staying long-term on the project, meaning that since the start of the year, several artists I had thought were in it for the long run have parted ways, putting me in a bit of a situation.

I'd like to make it clear that I don't hold anything against the artists who decided to part ways. They all had their own reasons for leaving, be it being unable to balance between work and education, wishing to pursue other endeavours, and so on, and I wish them the best of luck with it all~

Leaving me with a partially done set of assets as I have to then go and find more artists comfortable with monster girls and adult scenes, the amount of varying art styles present in the project has begun to grow, which leaves me worried on how coherent the project may be perceived as a whole.

So despite setbacks, I've kept on pushing forward and am hiring artists who I believe are a good fit for the project, and assets are now being made consistently.

But this brings me back to the whole 'coherency' thing, and this is where I would like opinions.

Below, I'll link to an image containing a certain royal figure, alongside an existing character from Chapter 1 as a comparison so you can compare the styles.

I'm putting it behind a link just in case people don't want to be spoiled on such an important figure and would like to remain surprised, but for those curious, consider this a bonus teaser alongside yesterday's. ; P

(For the record, Lucille doesn't actually ever appear in the throne room alongside this person, but imagine the trouble Matt would be in if she did, haha~)

I put her alongside a similar, mature character from Chapter 1 for comparison's sake.

Let me know what you think! Whether you think the style fits along everything else, or however else you feel about it.

The upside of having artists create assets alongside existing ones rather than redoing everything means that the game's progress can keep moving forward and less time/money is spent reimagining a considerable amount of content that has already been done. But naturally the downside is a less consistent appearance for the game--though how much this affects the experience as a whole probably differs from person to person.

Apologies for the somewhat rambly post! This is something that's been on my mind for a while now as things have been coming together, and I've really been fretting over the best way to go about it.

Until next time~

They are quite different but, as long as they aren't together on the same screen, I don't think it'll matter too much. Also, CG's in different art styles can be nice imo. Like that extra Tari scene from Ch1

Ghost

admittedly that was what I was thinking too, haha. How MGQ is so brazen with it and manages to do fine. Though I want to make sure that everyone is happy with how I'm taking things, and will try my best to ensure the game goes in a favourable direction.

I don't feel a bunch of various styles would be a bad thing. Monmusu Quest and a few other games have managed to pull the same thing off fine with styles so vastly different it painfully apparent the artists had nothing to do with each other. Quality is more important then overall coherency is most cases. At least in my opinion.
