Quest Failed - Audio Scene #1

Hello again!

This is probably a bit out of the blue, and many of you may not even remember when I asked you all about the audio content as it has been quite a while, but just like a certain sneaky ninja I'm jumping out of nowhere to bring the first audio scene featuring Ren!

There are many reasons for the delay in bringing this kind of content out, but mostly it was down to me wanting to be fancy and make things almost like an audio drama of sorts (i.e music, sounds, etc. along with the voice.)

Unfortunately, I'm not an audio expert, so I ran into a lot of issues with this--and didn't want the recorded audio to go to waste, so instead I strung together all the dialogue and made it follow out in the intended way.

Let me know if you're happy with future audio scenes being just strictly spoken word, or if you believe I should try to find a means of enhancing them with sounds/music. Heck, maybe you prefer them like this so they don't distract from the main focus!

My main worry is that due to some of the sounds being ambiguous, you may not follow along entirely with what's happening in the scene.

Essentially, this scene plays out from the perspective of a royal assassin sent to kill the Queen--but (un)fortunately, the Super Ultra Royal Spy is on the case, quickly subduing you, then deciding she wants to extract information from out of you using very...unorthodox means! The rest is fairly straightforward.

Since this was my first time compiling together something relying solely on audio, please let me know if you have any feedback. I would love to do more of these, as they're a fun little side thing to do and there's new challenges in writing up audio scenes. Additionally, they're a good showcase for VAs that may have yet to appear in the main games, and to tease what's to come!

I hope you enjoy~

For me, I think the elegance you mention in uploading an audio file is a big part of the appeal. A movie of sorts would let the narration work as text, certainly, but it starts coming a bit close to the game in that I imagine it would necessitate imagery to go along with it, possibly multiple images like the game does in its H scenes. That's another reason I'd favor having a VA narrator, it keeps the format to a single method and really lets us take in just the vocal talents of the actresses. My last bit of input, I think, is that there's one other benefit to using a VA for narration: most of what we've heard them do is dialogue, since the narration in game isn't read aloud. This would give the gal reading the narration a chance to use her talents in a different way, and add something extra to these audio releases that nothing else has. My first thought while I was thinking about this earlier was for the narration to be written in second person - you could double the femdom, a bit, having the narrator talk to "you", at once the listener and the character. Imo that could add to the atmosphere of the story. I'd also consider changing the VA doing narration each time for that reason, in that it would give more than one gal a chance to put her vocal chops to work on something other than dialogue, and it would mean whoever was picked for narration wouldn't be denied the chance to do the dialogue in a future audio release. Keeps the variety open. Regardless, I think I've said everything I have to on this. I'm glad to offer all these thoughts to you, in the hopes they'll be useful in some way. Whatever you choose to do here, please just know: I cannot wait for the next audio release, holy crap I didn't know I needed this in my life so much. Pass my compliments on to Ren's VA!

We'll have to see what the future holds, I guess, haha.

Frostworks

Yes~ I'm glad you think so too! I'm super happy with how the cast has turned out for Chapter Two and I'm glad I've been able to showcase a bit more of it with this audio content!

Frostworks

Ahh, I'm glad you enjoyed it, haha. And I really appreciate you taking the time to write out your thoughts in such detail. As you say though, to add in additional things such as more narration would definitely increase the cost for the scene as well as make things a bit more complex. I'm open to trying out styles, but would have to find a method that doesn't break the bank, so to speak. My initial idea upon giving up on the sound effects/music was to have some kind of video along with it, with sparse text underneath that fleshed out what was happening a bit more, but maybe that's a bit of a basic way of doing it? Since there's a certain elegance in just being able to upload an audio file after all. But then maybe have a dedicated VA that served as the narrator throughout all of them could work--there's plenty of ways to go with it!

Frostworks

Thank you~ I am, as well, haha. I'm always blown away by just how talented people are in the VA community and I'm super honoured to be working with such great people that put all this passion into projects like mine. I've been sure to pass on all your kind words onto her so she knows just how much you guys are loving her work so far!

Frostworks

I hope so, haha~ It would be pretty disingenuous of me to label this as scene #1 if there weren't more to come! And I think these are a great way to showcase the talent ahead of the release of the 2nd chapter so would love to do some more here and there, since it seems like this one has went down pretty well~

Frostworks

Holy shit. Yeah, more of this would be great. There... there might be more of this, right? :D

Neko Alchemy

wow just wow, the VA did an amazing job here, im so happy you managed to secure such talent!

*slams fist onto table* Now this is the content I like to see! Hear! Senses! Seriously though, I adored this. The vocal work is a huge part of what I love about the first game, and this has me so pumped (hah, pun) for the next game. For me, personally, I think the biggest thing these could use is narration atop the dialogue we're being given by the VA. I have two thoughts on this. The first is that an audiobook style approach could work, in that if you wrote up the scene where all this dialogue takes place in, and had the VA read it like an audiobook narrator would, that could work. The second idea, and the one I personally like the sound of more, is to aim toward a radio drama. When I hear that term, at least, I think of lighter narration that's offset by the music and sfx. I think you can cheat a bit by not using much of the latter, especially if the content tends to be these shorter femdom scenes, and rely on a bit of quick narration in places to supplement the dialogue. In my opinion doing this would make using just one VA for both awkward, though. In an audiobook, there's so much narration combined with the dialogue that the reader has to find a natural flow between a narrative voice and character voices, but if you were doing quick, semi-frequent descriptions aimed to supplement the dialogue, rather than narration to set the dialogue within, I think a second VA for the narration might work. That obviously could increase cost and complexity, though. I'd love to see that tried just to see if it'd work. So, in sum, my feedback is: music and sfx aren't as necessary as a bit more narration to help paint the picture and put less of the workload on the dialogue to describe and communicate everything that's going on. I'd vote for a second VA to read the narration, and have that mixed in with the dialogue-VA's lines. Really, really lovely work here. Her voice gave me actual chills at moments, and even if you just released more exactly like this in style and format, I'd lap it up. A+ content, would pledge again.

Dove

Also, just want to add: fantastic vocal performance! You've chosen some great talent for your VA work.

Ghost

Just giving it a listen now. So far, I can see what you mean about there being a slight lack of context as all the audio is from her perspective. However, I'm not having any issue following along. It would (of course) be nicer if it was in audiobook style with music, sfx and narration, but that could be a mammoth task. As it is right now, it's still rather enjoyable though and I'd still love to have some more!

Ghost

Yay! Ren audio! Thank you! I want more!!! Lucille if possible!
