Hi there, guys! Happy December~
Is it really almost Christmas again? Gosh, time sure flies! I'd like to thank you all again for joining me on this amazing journey to create the best darn monster girl game we can with Quest Failed, and I've been amazed at the amount of progress that's been achieved throughout this year!
Seeing as we've hit a milestone with the 30th dev log, I figured I would make this one special and do a recap of the total assets completed so far, just to show how far things have come, and what you'll all have to look forward to!
First up, is the character count! Excluding the original 5 that appeared in Chapter One, there are 18 unique characters joining the roster--adding up to 23 in total! This number differs a little from the last count as I had added some in where I believed necessary, due to the budget allowing for a little more freedom. It's quite the colourful cast, with all kinds of variety--so there should be someone for everyone!
Next up is the h-scene list--this is where the largest amount of funding has gone as you'll soon see, with a grand total of 46 h-scenes now complete! Gosh, let's hope poor Matt has it in him to survive all of these ordeals! This is more than likely going to be the limit for h-content short of future patches, I think, unless I believe I can fit in an extra scene here and there. But probably won't be going any further than this. The h-scenes are allocated between characters, with some having more h-scenes than others, so it's not an even distribution between them all--some may just be one and done, while others have the chance to crop up again in young Matthew's adventures.
This of course isn't counting the non-h/story based CG scenes--some of which are more dramatic to convey action in the story, and some are more just small ecchi moments that don't devolve into anything too lewd. (There may or may not be some fluffy ear stroking involved, how indecent!) I don't have a full count for these ones yet as they're being done here and there, and I'm trying to just see where some might slot in best without going too crazy with them. The attached CG in this post is something of a more innocent hug from our beloved Sister June as she thanks him so tenderly for so many donations to the church~ I wonder what's getting Matt so flustered?
In terms of backgrounds, I can confirm that as of right now--with some still in development, and not counting Chapter One's, or separate day/night variants--there are 18 new places complete for Matt to venture to. This includes many interiors featured in the grand capital city, Rhan, along with a variety of different outdoor environments. Quite the step up from how limited I was in Chapter One! This isn't counting the amount of unique backgrounds present in each CG piece too, of which the background artist has really done an amazing job on!
For music, I'm still hoping to have a soundtrack consisting of custom-made tracks, along with the stock tracks from Chapter One that I feel have their place, too. Though I'll be grateful for having more variation to work with rather than looping the same tracks over and over! I'll perhaps showcase some of the new tracks in a dedicated blog post, but for now I'll say I'm working with an incredibly versatile and talented composer who hasn't disappointed so far!
Voiced scenes are still slowly being pieced together, as there's a lot of work involved with formatting the script for voice actresses, adding in specific directions under the text so that the desired delivery is there, along with the process of cutting up the dialogue in soundclips to sync up with each line. But the aim is still to ensure that each and every h-scene is voiced, along with the story CG scenes too to help go along with the dramatic tension. Voice acting is also a costly endeavour with the amount of scenes to consider, but thanks to everyone's support this should be no problem to fund smoothly!
The main bulk of work to be done now--along with some assets being finalised here and there--lies with finalising the scripting and writing aspect of things, along with implementing all of the day-to-day interactions, day and night. Given the amount of h-scenes, along with the main story unfolding along with this, there's quite a bit of work to do and I'm sure that this game is going to end up a far longer experience than Chapter One--at least four times as much as if we're going by h-scenes alone!
Again, I sincerely apologise for how long Chapter Two has been taking to finish, but I really do believe it'll be worth the wait! With how much crazy stuff that happens in this Chapter, the temptation has always been strong to just go wild and spoil it all in big, rambling blog posts that detail every little aspect of the story. But I'm sure you would all appreciate experiencing it first-hand far more than just be be shown and teased every little detail before it ever releases, right? I'll admit, it's been tough to find the right balance of showing that progress is indeed being made, while still hiding just enough so that there are surprises still waiting for you when you dive in. But I hope I'm still providing enough information in my blog posts so that you're all happy and confident that your money is going into something amazing!
