Hiya there, guys! I'm back with another development log juuuust before the end of the month~ Cutting it a little close, but I just couldn't wait to share this new art that was recently done!
And now I can proudly present your new and improved Queen of the Forest, Bella! Be sure to kneel and pay your respects unless you want a thorny lashing. But mind the flowers, would you?
Much like Ren and Cynthia's new sprites, Bella's own redesigned sprite takes her old design and iterates upon it, though with a few more changes this time around to expand on her more 'Royal' nature. These changes include:
- Body/face markings to help make her skin feel less plain and to add to her more exotic/important nature of not just being a mere alraune! It's a small touch in the grander scheme of things, but really works well I think.
- Makeup, as initially the artist felt her original design was too busy at the bottom of the sprite, but didn't have enough going on at the top to balance it out--so lipstick seemed like a natural thing to add, and to make her stand out as an older woman of class~ Those other monster girls out there could learn a thing or too about how they present themselves!
This new sprite of course also comes with all the benefits of giving me a far wider ranger of poses and expressions to work with now, just like Ren and Cynthia, who were severely limited at the start of Chapter 2, but as you see from the demo, I have way too much fun with how many expressions they have now~ The same will apply to Bella now as I go through her existing scenes in the alpha and rescript all of her expressions. Due to the nature of her new design, some edits will have to be made to her existing CGs, but I feel this was a good compromise so we didn't feel too limited when redesigning her.
One last thing I'm still deciding on is her crown:

It was brought up, because of COURSE a Queen needs a crown--though at the moment it's still an optional layer as I'm not sure if it's adding too much on the top half of her design--or if you guys think it's a good fit alongside everything else.
But beyond that, I'd love to know what you guys think of the new Bella in general--whether you're happy with her new design or not and any thoughts you might have about her! (Though be respectful or she might have those thorny vines cracking about again!)
Finally, one last thing:

"Ohohohoho~"
