Hi there, guys! How are we all doing today?
Gosh, it feels like it's been a while since the last dev log, what with the craziness of the Chapter One update and all. I hope I didn't give anyone cause for concern! But hopefully things can settle back down now and I can get back into the swing of it all and focus my efforts on Chapter Two.
For today's dev log (beyond teasing you all with an adorable doggy Matt. Who could have possibly made him wear those ears, and for what purpose?!), I want to lean more towards the technical, wordy side of things and outline my current plans and what I hope to achieve this month. And that is:
- To get the next alpha build out (Hopefully by the middle of the month)
This one is self explanatory I suppose! But I know I've been a bit behind with getting the alpha updates out, as the Chapter One update really threw things out of balance with how involved it got. But I hope you all enjoyed what the update had to offer and that it tides you over a little~
- To begin fleshing out more of the open ended/exploration methods
What I mean by this is some of the more optional places you can visit during your 'free time' moments, as previous alpha builds have been a bit limited in that regard outside of the quests you can choose. But I aim to open up a few places that you can revisit upon completing a quest, or meeting someone new, and allow you to converse more with these characters and steadily forge relationships with them, perhaps even unlocking new h-scenes in the process~
There's even an added layer of depth to this--such as events changing depending on if you visit an area during the day, or the night. Sometimes it evens effects who shows up! So there'll be a lot of experimenting during playthroughs to see who and what you might be able to uncover.
- To forge ahead on the main plot developments and everything that might entail.
I don't want to spoil too much of the main plot development, but I'll say that it leads into some pretty dramatic encounters, with revelations left and right! Given how so many things and events can happen rapidly in these main story moments, I feel I've made the right choice by spacing them out between the far more lax side quest moments, to give you room to breathe and process things. A lot of work has went into story related CGs too that aren't necessarily lewd, but will help convey the action better than my writing and bobbing the sprites along the screen like little action figures mashing into each other could ever hope to achieve, haha.
---
Finally, I want to take a moment to thank you all again for your continued support and patience regarding the development of Chapter Two. I know it's been a long, and perhaps frustrating road to see how long the game is taking to develop, but I truly believe I'm making something amazing here, packed with content and from what you've all played of the demo so far, I hope you'll agree that it'll be worth the wait. Given the tremendous support I receive monthly--I'm going to begin exploring my options for what can be done to perhaps expedite development in certain areas without compromising the overall experience, as I want to set by the end of 2018 as the absolute limit for when Chapter Two will be done.
Of course, I don't wish to slash out content planned as I had to do with Chapter One (and patch it back in just recently!) but I'm sure there are ways I can speed things up!
At any rate, that your weekly dose of FrostWorks rambling! Though, I'll probably aim to have a new dev log up in under a week to make up for the lack of posts last month, so fear not.
Let me know what you think of things! Do you feel all the new content and larger story makes up for the longer development time on Chapter Two, or for future titles would you rather have shorter development time and by extension, shorter games done faster? Chapter Two has certainly been a learning experience for me in terms of big projects, and I want to make sure everyone is happy with how I'm handling development, or if there are ways I could perhaps improve upon it.
