Hello, hello, hello!
How are we all doing today? I trust the summer weather is treating you well and finally getting rid of that winter chill that seemed to linger for just a touch too long--like some kind of clingy, obsessive hooded girl!
I'm back today with the first dev log of the month. It's a little worrying how close we're getting to dev log #100--but hopefully we can keep steam and momentum throughout all of these and I can continue to keep you guys informed as I start to wrap up more and more of Chapter Two's content!
So I have several things I want to talk about in this installment of our exciting dev logs!
The first thing being of course related to the screenshot I have attached up above, featuring a very guarded Lucille who has been the focus of my writing in recent days as I work to finish up several of her events. Despite having had some minor exchanges with Matt in Chapter Two, she still hasn't quite fully opened up to him--so when he offers to help her rebuild her shack, she instantly assumes there must be some kind of catch and is more than more than a little wary of the arrangement. But surely Matt isn't the kind of person to take advantage of an old lamia down on her luck, right? He just wants to help out of the goodness of his heart, since that's what friends do!
I felt this was the best way to go with her character, and make Matt have to work to slowly gain her trust through repeated visits--since even if she welcomed him in a courteous manner beforehand and is generally polite, it's clear she purposely distanced herself from others after experiencing some kind of traumatic event in the past--perhaps related to her banishment she doesn't really like to talk about? Even the most guarded of lamias tend to get lonely, though, so even as much as she tries to push young Matt away, she always is grateful for the company in the end.
Writing Lucille in these more laidback, slice of life scenarios has been a lot of fun, too--since we didn't get much of a chance to explore her character in Chapter One beyond the attempted kidnapping and drugging and such. But eh, that's all swampy water under the bridge now! After all, most of Matt's friends have tried to assault him or kill him at some point, haven't they? At this point, it's to be expected! You can be sure when you visit Lucille you'll be treated to tea (the good kind, not the kind that paralyzes you and leaves you helpless to her snakey advances) and a nice, up close and personal view of those wondrous assets she likes to so proudly display. Without spoiling too much, I'll say that Lucille ended up with a couple of extra h-scenes, just to make up for her small role in Chapter One. And that for one them, it's quite a unique one that makes the most of one of her hidden talents. You'll have more Lucille than you know what to do with, that's a promise! The beloved hiss mistress's time is almost here! Let's just hope Matt doesn't get addicted to that sweet tea and end up a permanent pet of hers, huh?
The second thing I wanted to touch on briefly was something I've hinted to before, relating to where the rest of my writing focus has gone. And that's of course on Radical Ruby--a dragon who has been sorely neglected in recent builds of the game. But her time to shine is finally at hand, and her first h-scene is almost good to go, fully voiced too! It's something of a more gentle scene between her and Matt--but has the potential to go very, very bad if Matt doesn't behave himself. (Yes, it won't be too frequent, but some h-scenes will have a couple of different paths depending on the choice you make, so look forward to those!)
Finally--as of today I've received all of the assets I need to move forward with creating a trailer for Chapter Two. I aim for this to be a professionally made trailer--one that will really grab eyes, with custom made music and professionally edited visuals to go alongside specially recorded voice clips I've had recorded across different characters.
This will be a 'story' trailer, focusing almost entirely on the plot of Chapter Two (yes, there was one, honest!) with some cuts between some of the important characters as they discuss the issues at hand, with a tease of an epic battle that's to come! I've tried my best not to reveal too much in the trailer and avoid doing the typical hollywood thing of spoiling half the plot before you ever even get the chance to play the darn thing, but for those that want a pure experience, you may want to skip the trailer, since it does hint to some elements you might want to discover yourself.
All I have to do is make a rough draft of the trailer myself, sort of along the quality of the other trailers I have on my youtube channel--and then I'll be passing that over to a video editor who will HOPEFULLY make something really neat.
I want this trailer to signify that Chapter Two is approaching its final stretch to release, and will hopefully be able to use it to generate a lot of hype in the build up to that grand day--so I'm hoping it all goes well!
And that about wraps up what I've been working on these last few days--Lucille, Ruby, and exciting trailer things!
And before I leave you for the week, I'll leave you with a few questions:
Are you looking forward to seeing more of Ruby and Lucille? Out of the two scaly gals, which one do you prefer, and why? And which other character do you think should receive attention next, who has been sorely underrepresented so far?
Whew, that about wraps it up for today!
Until next time, guys~
