Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #113

Hiya there, guys! I hope you're all doing well!

For today's little showcase of what's been worked on over the last few weeks, I wanted to share another part of the game's custom soundtrack; which has been steadily growing over the months, and boasts quite a lot of neat, custom tailored tracks just for Chapter Two! It's been a lot of fun to work with composers and give them the exact scenario I have in mind, along with the right emotion/intensity to capture, rather than relying on the mercy of royalty free tracks to hopefully align with my vision. And there's a bunch of tracks I can't quite share with you yet, since they're very spoilery in regards to the story--but I hope you hear them you'll be completely blown away by them~

The attached track I'm previewing today is tentatively called 'war' in the game files (but might get a fancier name if I ever compile everything together into an OST!) I suppose its intended use is quite obvious, haha; for when Matt finally takes to the battlefield to combat that dastardly necromancer!

For this particular battle track, I wanted to aim between something that felt 'equal' between each side--good and evil. So a track that wasn't too heroic sounding, but then wasn't toooo evil. (Though it does have some vaguely dark undertones throughout, to express the intensity of the battle.) And I feel like it really came out nicely! It'd feel right at place as a dramatic rpg battle theme, I think. And since Quest Failed invokes so much of RPGs (both western and Japanese styled ones) it's definitely a fitting track. At least, I'd like to think so. But maybe I'm bias, haha.

And following up on this, this track perfectly goes with what I've been working on in regards to the new alpha build, and was completely just in time for the very serious and dramatic story parts I've been pouring so much of my energy into writing. Things really will go down--that you can be sure of! Because as Matt will realise, war truly is heck.

And for those wondering on the status and progess of the alpha build, I'm still hoping to get it out this month. I just, uh...didn't realise there was a few less days in this particular month, whoops. So it might be against the wire. But don't despair--if I go a day or so over estimate and it ends up releasing next month, I'll honour whoever may have processed this month still, too. I thank you sincerely for your patience--and hope that this very large update will meet your expectations and push Chapter Two that much closer to a solid release!

The progress would look something like this if I were to map it out in percentages (for the content required of this build, not the whole game, for clarificiation):

- Misc. CG Scenes/Events: 100% (Encompassing at least 3 cg events that happen, with a bunch of smaller things around them)

- H-Scene 1: 100% (Counting the extensive intro scene that has a multitude of different ways to lead into things, along with the outro to the event. This was a very long scene and a large challenge to tackle!)

- H-Scene 2: 100% (Counting the lengthy intro leading up to it, and the outro!)

- H-Scene 3: 40% (Needs a bit of work as I've been debating the direction to take this one-off character regarding how they talk, and have been torn for quite a while)

- Main Story Segment: 70% (Counting the very large intro segment before they march off and all the optional branches there are.)

So as you can see, it's the third h-scene that's pending, along with the main story segment that needs to get wrapped up. A good few days of work admittedly, but I'm hoping I can push myself to get everything done in time, as sometimes a little pressure is all one needs to be productive!

The percentages are VERY rough too for those last two parts--and not fully indicative of the work that might be left. It might be less, it might be more. But I hope it at least gives a little bit of insight into what's left of this build!

If you have any questions or concerns regarding anything brought up in this dev log, or just any questions about the development in general you'd like to talk about--please feel free to reach out to me via comments or otherwise. I'm always happy to answer, if it's within my power!

Thank you, and until next time~

>Things will go down given that Matty's involved, thats a certainty. :D seriously, this is all excellent news; just don't rush.
