Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #116

Heya, everyone! I hope you're doing well!

We're back to something of a normal schedule with dev logs now and I feel like I'm finally back on track--so whoo!

I hope you all enjoyed the small video/voice tease from last week, and following up on that I'm continuing with the special features and showcasing another CG, featuring everyone's favourite momqueen, Deidra, embracing our brave adventure in what looks to be quite a cozy hug. Some guys get all the luck, huh?

This moment in the script didn't actually have any accompanying art for quite a while--but the more I shaped it up and implemented it into the game, I realised that this was a moment that NEEDED a CG no matter what, so I decided to break my rule of the content lock on Chapter Two and made a special exception for our dear Queen--because, hey, the scene was already technically written!

I really like how it turned out, too, with the angle favouring Deidra's height over tiny lil' Matthew to demonstrate their difference in stature (physically and otherwise, huhu), and really emphasising her more grandiose and motherly traits. And of course, those plush, pillowy royal assets that some men would kill for, to just be in their presence. She's taken quite a shine to our bumbling adventurer, hasn't she?

You might notice that this CG is outside of the castle, too. I won't delve too much into the story, but let's just say this royal hug had quite the audience. Let's just hope this doesn't put Matt on any kind of hit list! I'm sure you can already hear Cynthia grinding her teeth in the background.

So with a kiss and a hug received from the Queen now--will these requests for affection escalate any further? Will Matt even survive long enough to request something more of her?! Who can say! All I know is that it's been super fun to write out these interactions with Matt and Deidra--and I try to always make their encounters worthwhile, even if there aren't that many of them throughout Chapter Two. Because, hey, she's a Queen--you can't just waltz into the castle and wish her a good morning like any other character!

In addition to the CG tease, I've been planning out what I want to put into the next build, the 0.11 one. As I say, I'll be working on a smaller scale to avoid overwhelming myself and ending up months late--so that I feel better about what I'm accomplishing, and people are happier with more rapid builds and chances to experience the new content. But the smaller updates will still feel a lot more impactful now I feel as the main scenario has really started to kick off. I really do hope you'll enjoy the action-packed moments along with the more mischievous monster girl antics sprinkled in between!

There's one h-scene I've been debating on including--and might write it, but potentially remove it down the line. Since all the art is ready for it--but I don't know how 'sexy' it might be. Since it's quite a 'brutal' one. It isn't too violent exactly, but then it's not like the other scenes. It's quite painful and enduring for young Matt, let's say. It can be quite easily avoided too, so it's not like a mandatory event or anything like that--but I still worry how it might be received.

How do you guys personally feel about something like that? Where it might just be quite an enduring experience for Matt--and a real worry for his safety, rather than just it being another playful sexy time, haha. I think since QF has always built itself up on its femdom elements, that scenes like these might be expected from time to time--but I wouldn't want to potentially put people off of the game or upset them. Then again, with plenty coming from a Monster Girl Quest background--maybe you're used to some scenes going off the rails from time to time? (It's nothing like vore, I promise, haha)

Either way--these are sometimes the concerns I have lingering at the back of my mind as I begin to flesh things out on this front. Where I get so wrapped up in simply following my own vision and building things around my own preferences that I begin to worry if it'll really resonate with people, or if I'm straying too far off-course from what people might expect out of the series.

That about wraps it up for this week's dev log, but expect to hear from me again soon-ish! I have a small video in the works that will be used to accompany a small update regarding some changes with Quest Failed--which should be done in the next week or two if everything goes well! So look forward to that!

Of course--I completely understand and thank you for supporting me all this time! It's greatly appreciated, and I know it can maybe be frustrating to never know where things are at, or when they might be done. I'd love more than anything to give people an expected date, just so they had peace of mind--but then as I say, it's really hard to know just because of the sheer scope of the game. I can only apologise for how long the game is taking, and have learned many lessons that I'll be taking into account for when I start Chapter Three for a much faster turnover time. Despite that though, I hope you'll enjoy the final product when it releases, as I really have been putting my all into it!

No need to apologise, I can see others are getting something out of the dev logs and I do realise they serve a bigger purpose than given release date updates. I've just been following for a long time and once there were release dates once in a while and I hadn't been seeing those lately, and I do understand why you would want to avoid them. I am in the camp of people who have been disappointed by missed deadlines. Also not mad about that, I would be more disappointed over a rushed game that was shit than a delayed game that is good.

Hiya, No worries--I apologise if the dev logs didn't end up giving you the information you were hoping for. As of right now there's no expected release date, due to how unpredictable development has been. I'll more than likely only finalise one when I'm like a week away from release I think, just to avoid misleading people or giving false hope. I believe the only deadlines I mentioned in recent months would have pertained to the alpha builds, of which I set as my own mini goals and milestones to mark the larger development of the game. Rest assured--when I have an official release date, I'll make a clear post stating it with an accompanying title--and won't hide it away in any dev log.

I think "on the rails" sailed in Chapter 1 and crossed the horizon with Marine. If it's avoidable, do it.

Really not trying to be a dick, just being honest. I'm basically only supporting so I will get a notification on when the finished chapter 2 releases. Sometimes I'll read the logs, but often I'll just scroll to the bottom to see it theres an update on a release time. So since I haven't seen that in a while (though I may just have missed it). I'll like to ask: Is there an expected release time for the game anymore? Or has too many "deadlines" been pushed back already for it to make sense to mention new ones?

Yup. But she is a mermaid. That justifies everything she does. Also she seems to be nicer than you can grasp from the first time you meet her.

Hahh, yeah--with so much content in the game I feel like I can 'get away' with having the occasional out there scene, just for variety's sake and people not into it don't have to pursue it.

I am not really font of Femdom. However if it is avoidable I don’t mind.

Also, as someone who doesn't really like the more brutal femdom stuff, I'd say keep it in there. It may be a stretch of the tone of the game but I'm sure some people will appreciate it and improve their enjoyment of the game. I can witness it and just get through the scene, I don't have to like 'everything' I see in the game to really enjoy the game.
