Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #140 + Content Query
Added 2021-03-31 19:21:23 +0000 UTCHeya there, guys! I'm back right at the end of the month for one last dev log before we roll into April. Exciting times~ How are you all doing? The weather is finally starting to warm up around here, and I'm grateful for it, since I was really about done with the cold. I was starting to forget what hot weather even was!
Anyways, I guess I'll dive right into progress, and what's been tackled. I'm happy to say that the events I said would be done in my last post, are in fact done now--and I'm really happy with how they turned out. With one being a sort of exhibitionist style scene, where poor Matt is forced to look at a naked lady (oh the humanity) and then the event after this was an intense smooching session.
It's interesting, because outside of maybe one or two instances, Chapter One was really light on the kissing--but come Chapter Two, I've started adding tons of those sorts of events, as I felt they were a really great way to add intimacy between Matt and the girl, while still also offering something pretty hot and heavy that falls short of being a full-on h-scene. I know there's definitely some people out there that appreciate these kinds of scenes, too, so I hope you'll enjoy how many there are alongside the lewder stuff! This particular character has unique properties attributed to the character Matt's smooching, too, that really add to the experience, and I hope will make for fun reading, when you really delve into how it's affecting him, and driving his body wild.
In addition, this is also a rare moment where I've written back-to-back events for a character in a single go, without hopping between different characters, or the main storyline events. Usually I do it in that manner so that each new alpha build feels like it has more content across the board rather than just being focused on any one character, but I suppose this time around I was feeling inspired, and was really in the mind of the character I wanted to portray, so forged on ahead while it was fresh for me. As you can imagine, writing for 20+ characters and keeping all of their voices unique can be a really big challenge. Like, a really REALLY big challenge--to the point I still worry if any of the characters maybe DO feel too samey right now. What's your personal opinion on that matter? Do you feel that all of the characters have their own identities, and don't feel like clones of one another--or do you feel several characters are at risk of blurring together? This is definitely something I've been honing as a writer, and I know that with each new installment it's only going to get more difficult as the roster increases. But for now, I've been soldiering on, and doing my best! I suppose that's all you can really aspire for, isn't it?
At any rate, now that the smooching event is largely done--and I've even outlined a good portion of the character's THIRD event--which is the cutest thing ever by the way--I'll be inserting all the CG and sprite cues and then moving on to fleshing out some more main story stuff. Alongside that, I'll be getting the dialogue from all of these new events put into a script, adding directions and then sending it off to the VA to be voiced. So I'm tackling things from multiple angles here and building up everything I've been writing quite rapidly, and am really happy with how it's all shaping up!
This is admittedly the kind of stuff that's really hard to show to you all visually through flashy pictures, but it's really good in terms of progress made on the game, and I apologise for not having many pictures in recent dev logs. I hope to remedy this in the next dev log with something fun I can showcase--but in a lot of instances, I am holding back a lot of stuff to avoid spoiling all the surprises you might find when you play. Because it's hardly fun going into a game already knowing 99% of what's going to unfold, right?
Also, while I have your attention here--I wanted to potentially talk about ways I can make the Patreon more appealing, and hopefully add more value to it alongside the usual monthly dev logs and art posts.
I don't know how receptive people might be about it, but I had recently been considering starting up some kind of serial web novel posts that go alongside the other Patreon posts I make. Essentially just an extra little bit of fun reading material for those that might be inclined towards that kind of thing!
Several things to note about this:
- Writing these wouldn't take away from my other commitments if that's a potential worry, as I would aim for each 'chapter' of this web novel stuff to be just a couple of thousand words per post. So bite-sized posts that can be kept on top of quite easy!
- I would want this to be a community driven story--where people could leave input each chapter, and help shape the story's development and feel involved!
- The story would be decided on by patrons, too. Maybe either by full suggestions, or I could put a few ideas/outlines out and let people vote that way. Whether it was based on the QF world, or something else.
I'm sure there'd need to be a few more details worked out along the way--but that would be the gist of it. How would people feel about that? Is that something I should pursue, or just stick to the current things I'm doing? As ultimately, my main goal is to ensure you're all happy, and reward you all for your support as best I can! If you have any other ideas about how I could add value to the Patreon, I'm all ears too!
Thank you all for your time, and until we meet again! Whoooosh~

Definitely appreciate more intimate scenes that don't necessarily go full into sex.

2021-04-01 22:36:32 +0000 UTCI remember first playing the chapter 2 demo and thinking I had never realized how much I needed a kissing scene. I haven't played a lot of h-games, but I can't even recall any other game having that, aside from maybe once or twice as part of a full blown h-scene. It's honestly a real refreshing change of pace and I'm glad to hear there'll be more. Little novelization thingies sound fun. I can't imagine I would take an active part though, as I have all the creativity of a turnip, but it sounds fun to read.

2021-03-31 21:47:00 +0000 UTCI think the idea of those short stories is really good and I think they should be based in the quest failed universe so visualizing characters is made easy without needing additional art and descriptions. Maybe stories about the characters because the events in quest failed would be cool. Also I can’t wait to see that kissing scene 😳
