BNHA: The Name's Spark, Spark The Hedgehog

CHAPTER 2

-

The nausea from getting hit by the shockwave that hit him almost made him vomit out the contents of his stomach the moment he woke up, but he did his best to hold it back as he opened his eyes, trying to find out where he currently was.

The soft bedding on his back was a contrast to the metal plates that constructed the Ark, so he already knew that he was somewhere else. Especially after the world seemed to shatter into pieces before he fainted...

His friends—where were they?!

With his eyes opened, he quickly scanned the area in hopes of seeing at least one of them, only to be greeted by disappointment. He was in some kind of hospital ward? He recalled the large hospital in Soleanna, and trust him, it was never this... white.

Wow, the brightness of the white was causing a little pain in his eyes by how striking it was. Honestly, what kind of hospital would purposely choose such colors that made their patients' eyes hurt?

Looking at the tubes needled into his arm, he noticed that he was naked. As in, his gloves and his boots were missing—Oh, there they were, on the desk just beside his cot.

He felt rather fine, so he grabbed the infusion tube connected to his arm and tugged, a brief moment of pain erupting before they subsided as his Chaos Energy healed the wound shut, the liquid in the tubes dripping onto the floor as a result.

Wearing his "clothes," he hopped from his cot onto the ground, stretching his body to feel out the kinks in his joints.

"Alright, my body feels fine except for a little sluggishness, but it should be fine enough. Now that question 1 is solved, question 2 remains. Where am I?"

Spark muttered after he cleared his condition, walking to the curtains before grabbing the cloths and pulling. Sunlight bathed his body as he looked out the window, revealing a beautiful sight of a city he's never seen before.

The architecture resembled the ones in Empire City, but with more skyscrapers and buildings between the bustling streets. This reminds him a little of Chun-Nan, but more modernized.

And the people! So many Humans! Granted that they were more spread out across Mobium in the larger continental cities like Grand Metropolis or Central City, but this many people in just one view? Unheard of.

He did frown, however, as he scanned the view in front of him with some slight confusion upon realizing something.

"Where are the Mobians?"

None. Not a single Mobian was seen in the streets. He even squinted to double-check, but nada. No Mobians in sight, which was already weird to him since most cities had a good number of them that coexisted with the Humans—

The door to his hospital room suddenly barges open, causing the hedgehog to get into a fighting stance out of instinct... only to find a hospital-garbed old lady with a helmet walking in.

"Oh, it looks like you're awake. That's great news; you've been asleep for over three days now."

She said with a kind voice before walking to the monitoring machine in the room, glancing at the machine while Spark asked.

"Uh, excuse me, but where am I?"

The old woman simply raised her eyebrow at his question, though he noticed the brief look of surprise before her face shifted back to the kind of look that an old lady would give while giving out candy randomly, tapping away on a keyboard.

"Deary, I'd love to explain, but could you please hold that question for just a few minutes? I have a professional that's coming in soon, and you can ask them instead."

Blinking slowly, Spark eventually nodded as he moved to flop onto the hospital cot, waiting for the supposit professional to arrive.

"Yeah, that's completely fine. My name's Spark. Spark The Hedgehog. You?"

Introducing himself to the old lady to pass the time, she hummed.

"Spark, you say? I'll add that to our databases then. Hmm, my Hero Name is Recovery Girl, but you can call me Chiyo if you'd like."

... Hero Name? Accepting a glass of water from the doctor with a thanks, he pondered a little before asking.

"Hey, Miss Chiyo, can I ask something? What's the deal with that Hero Name, I don't see the connection at all."

She hummed at the question as her eyes stayed on the monitor for a moment before turning to face him.

"A Hero Name is rather important, Deary, since it would be foolish to expose our true names to the public, mainly Villains who would stop at nothing to exploit our weakness, like family, for one."

Heroes and now Villains? Man, this is slowly feeling like the superhero comics that Tails usually reads.

"Right, and Villains are the bad guys that ruin people's day while Heroes are random vigilantes that stop them?"

"Somewhat so. Heroes must be educated and trained before they can operate as Pro Heroes under the system of the Hero Public Safety Commission. Vigilantism is outright banned in the majority of the countries, as public usage of Quirks is frowned upon in the eyes of the law."

Listening to her explain the Hero System, he couldn't help but scratch his muzzle to push back the growing confusion spawned by the amount of new information he was receiving... Man, it's like Amy's lectures about fashion all over again.

"Quirks... I'm guessing that word doesn't mean the attribute of a person and is instead something else? I mean, I have a quirk of doing what I've gotta do regardless of anything that happens."

"You are correct. The word that you're hearing, Quirk, is another definition that most Humans obtain during their childhood."

A new voice caused him to look in the supposit direction, his eyes glancing and meeting a fellow Mobian's eyes. A mouse-dog Mobian hybrid, to be exact. He would be lying if he didn't feel a sense of relief at seeing one of his kind.

"Cool, the name's Spark. You must be the professional that Miss Chiyo was waiting for?"

"Professional is a tad bit farfetched, but yes, I'm the person she was waiting for. Good afternoon, I am Nezu, the principal of U.A. High."

The Mobian introduced himself before extending his arm out for a handshake, with Spark hopping down from the cot to return the gesture.

"So, I've gotta ask, where am I exactly? I traveled for a while, and I don't recognize any of this at all. Also, where are the other Mobians? I looked out from the window earlier and saw none at all."

The hedgehog fired the questions that had bothered him as the mouse-dog Mobian simply listened before dropping a bomb, his tone measured.

"You’re in Musutafu, a city in the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. As for 'Mobians'... I’m afraid I’m unfamiliar with that term. Could you elaborate?"

Spark stared at him, the weight of Nezu’s words sinking in before he openly cursed his stupid luck once again for getting him in this damn situation.

"Ugh, this is just like the shtick with Hansel and Gretel but worse! No Mobians existed at all, a whole new world, and no way of going back home! I'm low on Chaos Energy, and I've run out of Rings too, so no portals to transport me back home, amazing!"

Spark ranted while pacing around the room, his hand ruffling his quills as the two other people in the room watched patiently with understanding looks on their faces.

"Mr. Hedgehog—"

"Spark will do; Hedgehog is more of a title than a surname."

Nezu adjusted his posture, his eyes never leaving Spark's as he gestured for the agitated hedgehog to sit.

"Spark, I understand this must feel overwhelming. You’ve mentioned quite a few intriguing concepts—a whole new world, the folklore of Hansel and Gretel, Chaos Energy, and these Rings. Could you elaborate? Perhaps we can assist you in some way."

Spark stopped mid-pace, his hand still gripping a handful of his quills. He let out a frustrated groan before plopping back onto the cot, his legs swinging over the edge as he rubbed his temples.

"Alright, fine. Guess you deserve the full story. But first, I gotta ask, how did I even end up here?"

Nezu exchanged a glance with Chiyo, who gave a slight nod before stepping forward to explain.

"You were found unconscious just outside the city perimeter, near one of the mountain trails. A patrol unit spotted you after detecting an unusual energy signature in the area. Given your... unique appearance, they assumed you might be injured or in need of medical attention. That’s how you ended up here, at U.A.’s private medical wing."

Spark blinked, taking a moment to process the information before muttering to himself.

“Energy signature, huh? That was probably the Chaos Energy from the explosion. Makes sense. Robotnik did do something to the jump drive system with all seven Chaos Emeralds.”

He muttered the last part more to himself than the others.

"Chaos Energy? You mentioned it earlier. Could you elaborate on what exactly it is?"

Spark sighed, leaning back slightly as he tried to put the concept into words.

"Alright, here goes. Chaos Energy is... well, think of it like the life force of my world. It’s everywhere—in the air, in the land, in every living being. Mobians—anthropomorphic animals like me—can tap into it to do a whole range of stuff. We can enhance our speed and strength, use it to power attacks, or even channel it through objects to deal even more damage."

To illustrate, he raised his hand, his eyes narrowing slightly as he concentrated. A warm, amber light flickered to life in his palm, taking the form of a small flame.

"Not all Mobians can manipulate Chaos Energy, though; it’s rare. Most can barely sense it, let alone control it. Not to brag, but I’m pretty good at it. Oh, and I have superspeed too."

The flame in his palm shifts into a soft, swirling breeze that blew. And to demonstrate further, the energy in his hand shifted again., the temperature dropping noticeably, and faint sparks of blue lightning began to dance around his palm.

"I can adapt it to different forms depending on the need—fire, wind, ice, electricity. Not to brag, but out of all my friends, I have the best control when manipulating the Chaos Energy within me."

Nezu nodded, his expression contemplative.

"Fascinating. Chaos Energy... I assume it’s the source of this Chaos Emeralds and Ring concept you mentioned?"

"Spot on, not bad, Nezu. You’re picking this up faster than most. Rings are these golden loops scattered across my world. They’re made from the excess Chaos Energy in the air; laced within them are slight concentrations of Chaos Energy. Normally, we use them to heal or recharge, but if you know what you’re doing, you can manipulate that energy to open portals. As for the Chaos Emeralds... well, those are a whole different beast. Think of them as god-tier artifacts. Each one holds an almost limitless reservoir of Chaos Energy. With all seven together? You could rewrite reality itself—create or destroy anything with a single thought."

Nezu’s expression turned even more pensive as he adjusted his position in the chair. With a sigh, Spark crossed his arms on his chest as he contemplated what to do.

"Problem is, I’m fresh out of Rings, and I’ve got no clue where the Chaos Emeralds are, or if they are even in this world. Without either, I’m stuck here with no way back home."

Chiyo, who had been listening intently, hummed thoughtfully and leaned against the counter, her kind eyes softening.

"And what about this Hansel and Gretel bit you mentioned earlier?"

Spark couldn't help but chuckle lightly, shaking his head at the memory upon thinking about them.

"Them? Oh, that’s just me reminiscing about one of the more bizarre adventures I’ve had. I stumbled into some enchanted storybook—it was magical, don’t ask me how—and the next thing I know, I’m smack in the middle of a fairytale, staring down two terrified kids being chased by a sentient gingerbread house."

Nezu’s brow arched at the unexpected detail.

"Sentient gingerbread?"

"Yup. It wasn’t just the house, either. I spent that week fighting animated pastries and evil bread. And to make things worse, the whole kingdom was being ruled by some overbearing tyrant. Had to take him down, free the villagers, and set things right before my buddies managed to yank me out of the storybook mess."

Chiyo couldn’t help but giggle, covering her mouth with her hand.

"That does sound like quite the adventure."

"Adventure’s one word for it... Heh, just thinking about it is making me worried about my friends."

Spark muttered, his smirk fading. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his quills drooping as the weight of his situation returned.

"Before I ended up here, things were going south fast. Robotnik—this tech genius with an ego the size of a planet—was up to his usual megalomaniac antics, messing around with the Chaos Emeralds for world domination. All seven of them. He’d rigged them into some kind of experimental jump drive. Probably trying to warp reality or conquer the universe—typical Robotnik stuff."

Chiyo and Nezu exchanged a serious glance but said nothing, letting Spark continue.

"My friends and I got wind of it and did everything we could to stop him. But things didn’t go as planned. He powered up the device right in the middle of our fight. The Chaos Energy went wild—explosions of light, energy everywhere—and then... darkness. And when I woke up, I was here. No idea where my friends are, if they’re safe, or if Robotnik’s machine actually worked. For all I know, they could be scattered across different dimensions... or worse."

Just imagining the worst-case scenarios made him grit his teeth, frustration and worry raging inside him like a storm. Sparks of amber lightning crackled across his skin, a brief, uncontrollable burst of Chaos Energy rippling through the room.

Realizing what had happened, he clenched his fists and exhaled sharply, forcing himself to regain control. The lightning dissipated, and the faint hum of Chaos Energy hummed away as he steadied his breathing, scratching his muzzle in embarrassment for losing control.

"Sorry about that. Guess I’ve got more pent-up energy than I thought."

Nezu leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers as he absorbed the information.

"... Your predicament is indeed extraordinary, but it provides us a foundation to work from. While our world lacks Chaos Energy, there may be resources or technology here that could help replicate their function—or at least provide you with clues to return home.”

Spark's ears perked up slightly as his eyes darted to the... Huh, what was he if not a Mobian? Questions for later.

"Wait, really? You think you guys could actually help?"

"It’s not a guarantee, I admit, but with proper analysis and collaboration with some of my contacts, I might be able to offer some insights into your situation. Though you need to adapt to life here while we explore our options. This world has its own unique systems and dangers, and understanding them will benefit you greatly."

"You mean the whole Hero and Villain stuff that Chiyo mentioned?"

"Precisely. If you’re to navigate this world, understanding the Quirk system and the societal structures that govern it will be essential. In the meantime, I’ll allocate resources to researching Chaos Energy and the possibility of interdimensional travel as soon as possible."

Hearing the good news made him deflate slightly, his face painting a small grin.

"Wow, thanks a lot. Guess I’ll stick around and see what this world has to offer. Who knows—maybe I’ll even pick up a Quirk or two while I’m here."

Chiyo chuckled softly, shaking her head as she started to clean up the mess on the ground.

"Quirks don’t exactly work that way, Deary, but I like your optimism."
