Pokémon: Generation By Generation

CHAPTER 11: [License and Registration, Please]

-

Three days since finding out that the exploit still worked, and in these past three days, I have accumulated quite a bit of Nuggets.

[Nugget — x999]

A bit, as I said. In total, JOSEPH has, at least, less than five million Pokédollars to his name... Not counting the maxed amount of Pokéballs and other consumables that he already bought with the money.

There's only one problem. Since the in-game bank account is linked to mine, he couldn't simply sell them all at once and then grind another 999 Nuggets due to one reason alone.

My account would be flagged instantly. Granted, actual transactions used in-game are not recorded, but the lump sum would still be reflected in my account if I sold all the Nuggets.

There was no way in hell that a student could earn five million dollars in just a few days, weeks even. At most, I could give the excuse of business profits; people back in the original world made tens of thousands per month by dropshipping at my age.

Even the singular ten-thousand balance in my bank account was pushing my personal limits at the moment.

That meant one thing: in order to hide all this money, I'd need a specific Pokémon to evade the government's scrutinizing eyes on my wallet.

A Porygon.

With it, I could tell it to start businesses on its own, letting it pilot his business accounts as the money would be laundered through said businesses to produce clean, usable money.

Not only that, if my memory is correct, I could get an infinite amount of Porygons as long as I had Coins in the Celadon City Game Corner. The majority of Porygons will do what's needed to make my profile squeaky clean, like paper trails and fake documents, while a handful would operate on the actual businesses to maximize the laundering.

Besides, another plus side was that I could theoretically make money from the businesses. This could lead to increased income, and I might even use the businesses as a cover to sell the Nuggets in real life for more than they're worth in-game. It's a win-win... Granted, I set everything up in time.

I suppose I've added another item to the to-do list. It's really starting to bloat up.

---------------- To-Do List MASTERPLAN ----------------

Truly, no rest for the wicked.

Actually, since I finally have enough to pay for the whole Pokémon License package, I might as well get that done soon tomorrow. Speaking about the Pokémon License, another problem arose.

Who should I register as my first Pokémon?

The obvious answer was Zardon, since he's my starter and bro. But there was no way to explain his existence. Do you know how much a Kanto Starter costs in this economy?

At least 100,000 Pokédollars, and so much money spent would net you a weaker-than-average Charmander. The average-performing Charmanders on the market were going for two to three hundred thousand.

They don't compare to my G.O.A.T. with max IV stats on all important areas. If my estimations were to be believed, Zardon would go for, at a lowball, more than half a million. Five times the normal amount.

And the price of a Charmeleon is, on average, ten times the amount due to one singular point... It was hard to evolve a strong Pokémon. It was evident in the recent Blue fight that Pokémon evolve differently from my original world's media, so I had a look online.

Pokémon that evolved past their first evolution were uncommon. Not rare, but not common either. The difficulty and time spent between evolutions were perpendicular to the variant of Pokémon.

God-like pseudo-legendaries like Metagross and Dragonite in their first evolution phase take years to evolve into their final form. Steven Stone, Champion of the Hoenn Region in Japan, stated that his Beldum, who was with him since childhood, took the world record for fastest evolving Metagross at 3 years after his debut.

Basically, the TL:DR was that he couldn't simply whip out an evolved Charmeleon to be registered as his first Pokémon; it would instantly raise suspicion about where, how, and when he obtained it, opening another can of worms that would lead to the Arc.

Looking at my current party, I scratched my head as I worked out my thought process.

Zardon was already out of the picture.

Bolt is a contender since there are a decent few people who start out with a Pikachu, but I had to come up with an excuse since they are pretty sought after in the market. Still, a cheap Pikachu is rather low on the grand scheme of things, about 5 thousand Pokédollars since they were "domesticated," A.K.A. too weak to be used for a Pokémon Trainer. Maybe I can somehow buy a cheap Pikachu and replace it with Bolt?

Monkey is actually the smartest option, a general Pokémon that can be found commonly in the wild, and a great starter Pokémon for most Trainers since Mankey and Primeape are decent options for battling, but the fact that he's almost at the threshold of leveling up is making me hesitant.

King is also out of the picture since he's in his second evolution, though still a contender, as research showed that Nidorinos are not that rare for rich kids to be used as their first registered Pokémon.

At this point, I even considered Saitama-ed.

You know... The Pidgey that keeps on getting Critted to death? Yeah, I've considered the option only to laugh out loud before moving on due to his IVs.

---------------- Pokémon Summary ----------------

Do you see this? I never thought that I'd see this abomination, and I don't know if I should cry or laugh at this luck.

So, either Bolt, Monkey, or a new Pokémon overall. I did a quick check on my notebook to see all the potential permanent future additions to the team, and I have to say, these guys aren't going to cut it.

So, I did what sensible people do best when in a dilemma...

I chose to spin the wheel on an online wheel picker.

The decision landed on Bolt, which was what I was kind of hoping for in the first place. All that's left is the payment, logistics, and telling my parents about my Pokémon License.

Surprisingly, the process was simple.

You pay them a very small fee of 10 Pokédollars to take the assessment tests, then after less than three days, if you pass, you will need to forward the remaining 4,990 Pokédollars to officially get the License.

It's digital, but you can ask for an official card that can act as both a debit card for anything Pokémon-related and as an identity card for both your personal and work life.

It was very useful and only 5 Pokédollars, so I got it as well. The card came less than a day after I received my digital certificate; the carrier service sure was fast.

... Hmm. All of this was quite anticlimactic. Maybe it was due to the fact that I've already gotten my hands on my very own Pokémon.

Moving on, as for the case of registering Bolt as my first Pokémon, I did some testing and research.

The physical Pokémon License card can be used to register Pokéballs to my account, linking it to the database that will set said Pokéball as my own.

If anyone without permission operates this Pokéball through any institution such as Pokécenters and Personal Computers, the system will catch the action and send a notification to my registered phone. If no action is taken in the next 10 minutes, then it will automatically be flagged as stolen, and countermeasures will be performed for the safety of myself and my Pokémon.

Useful, but the neat thing is this—technically there is no such thing as a history check for both unregistered Pokémon and Pokéballs. What I'm trying to imply is that, since Bolt is both an unregistered Pokémon inside an unregistered Pokéball, I could just register her as my own Pokémon without any consequences.

It's the same concept of a wild Pokémon being caught in an unregistered Pokéball that a Trainer maybe forgot to register beforehand; the security system lets it go without any fight at all.

So, I was able to register Bolt without any problems, at least problems that I couldn't currently think of.

It should be fine?

With Bolt in her Pokéball, I touched my License Card directly over the button of the Pokéball and used the official Pokémon Trainers app to scan the Pokéball with a single press of the screen.

A few seconds later, the Pokéball gave out a beep with three consecutive white lights flashing around the button as confirmation that it linked this Pokémon and Pokéball to my account. There was no way for her to be caught by any other Pokéball except for my own registered Pokéballs.

The app acted as a Pokédex, giving you official and vetted information about anything Pokémon-related on the fly, like what food and drinks a specific Pokémon could consume, and so on.

Though the internet already had said information online, it was still nice to have since the app could be used in its entirety offline... Somehow, I'm not diving into that.

I also set up direct debit to withdraw and pay the Pokémon License fees every month to automate things, so I didn't have to worry about scrambling to transfer 500 every month now.

These few days have been tiring, so I didn't make much progress in Fire Red. That's changing though, as I'm done with the exploit. My Pokémon were strong enough too, hopefully.

Starting tomorrow, I'm rushing through Cerulean City. There were three things in my itinerary that I needed to do to cross Cerulean off my checklist until I've cleared Vermillion City.

First, the Cascade Badge. I'll have to beat Misty's Gym. There really isn't anything that I can get from the Gym, only Pokédollars and the TM for Water Pulse.

Second, I have to head to Bill's Place just up Nugget Bridge. Talking to and helping the guy would give me the next key item to advance the story, the S.S. Anne Ticket to be able to access the ship, S.S. Anne, in Vermillion City.

Third, going down the City leads a path to the next City. There's also the TM for Dig when going to the new City, so that's a plus, but the main points are both the Nursery and my new money-making scheme.

I'll clear all this in a day, so I've decided to start fresh tomorrow. For now, I'm going to play with my Pokémon before heading to bed.
