Examing The Ongoing Influence of German Expressionism

The Tragedy of Macbeth is an interesting film in that it very precisely revives a stylistic movement from a century ago. I start examining the film's connection to its German Expressionist roots, and in examining the topic realized that Expressionism has left a profound mark on film and TV and may even be making a resurgence. I hope you enjoy the video!

I pretty much agree. The aesthetic of German Expressionist film? No thanks, probably why I'm not a huge massive fan of the more "neo-expressionist" styles like Burton, Del Toro, and Gilliam (there's stuff in there I appreciate, but I'm not broadly a fan of their work). I do love Film Noir and Neo-Noir though. Probably my favorite genre.

German Expressionism - like living in a freezer while being stretched on a rack. So cold, so painful. I prefer the S. Korean version which is invariably warmer. Like Squid Game. But maybe that's just Escher.
