Theres so many little nuances to the dialogue, like when L says theres a 5%-10% chance, he's bluffing so Light's Dad will let him put the cameras in. I read somewhere that its more accurate if you invert the percentages so he actually thinks its a 90%-95% chance. Also, its an old episode now (ep 6 - 12:46 below), but when L smiles to the detectives in the hotel, he's talking about catching Kira for justice... But I always thought that L himself sees it as more of a game/challenge than a 'fight for justice' so the smile could be deception by him to get the detectives on side.

He didn't touch any part of the Notebook and when he wrote on the page he didn't know what it was or what he was doing. There was never any intent from him to do harm. We will never know because that specific case is never explained. The rules as written in the book don't cover it and, even if they did, they were written by Ryuk who has admitted more than once that he doesn't really know anything outside of how he has used the book. In this episode he's asked if it's ok to write any date prior to the victim's natural death date and he says he can't be sure because Shinigami never use it like that. It's interesting, given the above, that he was certain about the owner of a Death Note never going to heaven or hell, though. If all he knows is from his own direct experience... well, it makes ya think, eh? But maybe the creator didn't even think about it so idle speculation is all it will ever be. If there was an answer coming up in future episodes I wouldn't be posting spoilers to tell you ahead of time anyway lol

2024-12-29 15:59:04 +0000 UTCOkay, so, I watched Death Note multiple times and I do have to say: The stuff you mentioned here about the FBI agent in the beginning never even crossed my mind. If that's the case that's dark. And you can't even say stuff like "He was under the Death Notes influence while writing down the names!" Because he wasn't. He was forced to do it without being ordered to by the Death Note. So yes, if we look at the rules which were established he 100% certainly didn't go to either heaven or hell. The most popular fan theory (and this is just a theory, so nooo spoilers!!!) regarding that is that people who use the Death Note become Shinigami themself. Imagine Raye after his death realizing that he is now doomed to live in the Shinigami realm. What a shitty fate that would be if the theory is true. Either way: This is a great observation and really adds to the dark tone of the series.
