DEATH NOTE Episode 27 (Early Uncut Access)

Episode 27 | Abduction

Comments

Yeah, L, Near and Mello grew up in one of the Orphanages funded by Watari. They “trained“ gifted kids there to be the next L 🙂‍↕️ Mello and Near always competed for the title so they don’t get along, also, they are too different Near is more calculating and Mello is more emotional in his decisions

Steffy

That's your opinion. I'm so hype for what's to come

dmc 1219

There was a four year timeskip after Mello left Wammy's House and L died. Light has basically been Kira unopposed for four years.

Peak is gone...

Joe Moore

Just realized bc of you that L asking Light to take over for him is genius bc he knows Light can't pass it up, but L also know he has successors coming. They grow on you.

Markein

Thank you so much :)

Jessica McCann

As you can see in this episode, as L was always about his sweets to help him stimulate his brain, Near is all about his toys, and Mello with...hershey bars.

Bleach Sensei

Well, the dislike is justified due to how badly it's paced. In the manga the fight between Light and L only covers roughly half of the total chapter count but in the anime roughly 2/3 episodes (if not more) is just covering the L portion. In other words they just rushed the second half out, cutting out tons of content and increasing the pacing which results in many people missing a lot of important information. The anime version of the Mello/Near portion actually does kind of suck because of how much was cut. I still prefer it because garbage character Rem💩 is finally dead, but oh well.🤷‍♂️(dw, I'm just joking by exaggerating my hate a bit). This might be a bit spoilery, but we have already seen the start of this within this episode so I'm just gonna mention it anyway: I also like that during the second half of the series the Japanese police force pretty much gets completely humiliated (showcased as completely incompetent and so on) and rightfully so. They were the ones who killed L by refusing to follow his logical and sound reasoning, they should actually be held accountable for this. It's Nears biggest advantage. In contrast to L he doesn't surround himself with idiots (to be fair, L didn't have much choice).

In my opinion, if they had given us one more episode to sort of 'grieve' the passing of L, and maybe differentiated/characterized Near a bit more before introducing, folks would feel differently; since a lot of the rejection comes from not feeling like L's memory is respected by how quickly they move on and set up a similar dynamic. Really they need to setup a feeling that this is part of L's plan; that these two are his true successors, that Light taking over as "L2" was part of original L's plan when he's standing in the rain, knowing it would take his death to defeat Kira. If I wrote the transition, it would be an episode of L and mello & near at the orphanage establishing a relationship with the two true secret successors, perhaps with L commenting on their styles as a mentor; so their actions moving forward are in reaction and have a relationship with L that we've seen, and gives credibility to the following dynamic. Perhaps he teases them through solving an mystery he is currently working on (but has already solved), giving them clues and seeing how they react/what they would do in each situation. When I imagine that fake episode existing in my head, the rest of the season (or the second half of the manga) feel much more cohesive with the overall series.

I only very vaguely remember what happens in the series after L died, I either just watched the final episode or just half paid attention cause I remember these characters, but I don't remember what they do. Either way I look forward to watching the last few episodes here!

Yeah I've always thought that Mello and near embody parts of L but aren't completely like him. Both are hyper intelligent. - Near is cold, calculating, autistically quirky, but seems to lack Ls humor and emotion and is much more cautious than L. - Mello is the opposite, he isn't cold or calculating at all, and he is driven mostly by emotion, and shares Ls trait of being able to toe the line on morality and isn't afraid to take risks in order to get the job done.

Tacosareneat

Just wanted to say thank you for doing these death note reactions! Its my favorite show and getting to experience it again through your reactions has been great.

bluekeo

Loving the death note uploads!!

dmc 1219

I actually really like part II of the story but mainly in the Manga. It's paced much better and has details that the anime omits

Ture

They did mention that Near spent years gathering info on Kira by himself before presenting it to the FBI

Oppiee

Yeah I had to go back at the end of the episode cause I missed that in the text - it was over lapping ☠️

Jessica McCann

i really like Melo

Joao

I think Mellow would be M and like Near said ''oh thats right, I would be N''

Felax

So there was L… and now there’s M (Mello) and N (Near) lol

Mike

at start of death note light is 18. after ep 26 the show jumps ahead in time five years, depicting Light joining the National Police Agency (NPA) of Japan in 2012, at the age of 23.

Raunak Xrestha

i personally think that people who dislike the post-L portion of the show are overreacting. yes, he was a great character, but the story being told isn’t compromised by his death imo

spectral.mozzarella

Yeah L was a combination of both of them. L was very brazen. Even light says so after L dies and the task force asks him to take over as L. He says something like "I won't be as risky and direct as L was," and his dad agreed.

Tacosareneat

Remember there was a time skip. So Mello isn't 15, he's 20

Tacosareneat

I agree, I just didn’t want to elaborate too much on that since this is their 1st episode. At least Mellos extreme can already be seen. Why be subtle about the whole thing, right? Just start kidnapping and killing.

Saul

I agree with everything but your last statement. L was pretty head-on in certain scenes. Examples: 1. Directly confronting Light very early on and talking to him 2. Putting up cameras in the suspects houses 3. That day on which he stole Misas phone and took her into custody, completely ruining Lights plans...or rather his luck because he didn't really have a plan for that day other than use his cheat codes (which were entirely based on luck). There is more but I won't go into it here. He certainly wasn't completely passive in his approach. Near and Mellow are L's traits pushed to their extreme. Mello is doing exactly what L did...just to the utmost extreme.

Lighto San

guess its time to meet M and N, Mello and Near :) we got a time jump as well :) things have started to move quickly :D they are older now since there was the timeskip, Mello is around 20, Near around 18 :) they are pushing Light straight away thats impressive :)

Kisame

Controversial opinion: Near and Mello are underrated. I get why, they do live within L's shadow...but they are not nearly as bad as people make them out to be. Also, the biggest hint L left behind is that Light is now the new L...but L knew of the existence of the orphanage. So to anyone from the orphanage it would instantly be suspicious that L supposedly chose someone else over them. In that way, L actually fights on which is a nice thought symbolized by the ending image within this episode. Sure, you could say that Light put himself in this position but he did so because L actually asked this of him a few episodes before his death. It was a trap in case L died so that the "fight" would not be over. And no, this is not a theory. L always knew Light was Kira 1 with certainty, that much has been 100% confirmed by the OG mangaka. He asked Light to become L² while *knowing* that Light is Kira. About the orphanage...it's a place Watari built up in order to create gifted kids like L. He was his first success story. I don't have an issue mentioning this here because the explanation of this is only in the manga and was cut from the anime. Or you could just deduce this because his successors were chosen from within the orphanage which obviously must have had it's reasons. After L became as smart as he...well, sadly was...he became the new ideal for the orphanage to strive for. That's why the children from this orphanage usually strongly resemble L in some kind of way with Near being the biggest example. But funnily enough Mello *also* resembles some part of L and we have already seen this within this episode. But I'm not gonna say much more. Also, you can just feel how much the anime cut out here from the manga. It's moving insanely fast already and you can easily miss important information. I mean, you even see during this episode that Flexie actively misses important information and honestly, it's totally understandable. Mello and Near in the manga take up roughly half of the total chapter count. In the anime they get 12 episodes and one of those is mostly a recap episode sooo...they get more like 11 episodes. Keep in mind that Light VS L had 25 episodes and that was only roughly HALF of the manga. Logically speaking the anime should've had 50 episodes in total. In other words, the anime shortened the second half of the Death Note manga by a LOT which should be a strong hint towards how much stuff was actually cut and why the pacing is so rushed. It frankly is kind of embarrassing and looking at it like this I can 100% see why people despise the second half of Death Note on mass...I still disagree though. 15:11 "The Japanese Police really suck." Yes. They killed L due to incompetence and lack of logical reasoning. They told L "lol, no. Your logic doesn't work on us because we have feelings towards Light!" They 100% suck and Near & Mello actually not being surrounded by idiots is removing L's biggest weakness. Again, something which can also already be seen within this episode. 21:20 proves this point exactly.

Lighto San

At 15:39 Mellos grunts also state he joined the gang/mob a year and a half ago. Of course Light/Kira has been doing his killings all the time. It’s his goal. both Mello and Near share traits with L, they know him from the institute. Near might be more similar even as he would likely look up to L. Notice how Mello is eating chocolate. Near solves puzzles. I will say the biggest issue with the show at this stage is the pacing of the show. Not the absence of L. Other shows like Breaking Bad are not lesser shows because of the deaths of major characters that are obstacles to the main character. The story is not over, Lights goal to create his perfect world is still key and of course governments would try to put a stop to Kira. Another task force would be inevitable. Both Mello and Near will have different approaches to how to catch Kira, Near will be a continuation of L’s approach. Mello will do the opposite, head-on with kidnappings.

Saul

22:00. Yes. They explained in the begining of this episode and at the end oh the 26. More than 3 years passed.

tomas ramos

17:07. He is actualy 18 now. Remember 3 years have passed.
