17:20 That is EXACTLY what L has said during the episode he died. Like not EXACTLY exactly but insanely similar. Again, the task force killed L by being utterly incompetent and not even remotely willing to test out his hypothesis. He basically figured it all out once he had the notebook in his hands but the people surrounding him said "Lol, no." They honestly should feel strongly responsible and writing characters deliberately more stupid than they should be just so that Light can get his big win is...well, it's contrived to say the least. But when N is the one talking about this hypothesis they suddenly get doubts about Light. Sure. That's part of why L's death has been so contrived and badly written. His logic has been completely sound and was very similar to N here. But the police just said "Noooo, Light good boy.🥲You are just dumb, L! We obviously know better than you! You're just sad that your hypothesis about Light turned out to be wrong, you jealous little boy!" It's the reason why *every* time Death Notes story has been readapted (not the terrible Netflix version) they rewrote these events completely. Because they realized how hard they screwed up. And not just them, the fanbase also realized, especially in Japan. Like, this episode makes L's death look even worse and even more contrived. *But* it's also why the second part of the show is better. It's not nearly as contrived or illogical. Light is not nearly as lucky so he actually needs to mostly rely only on his intellect which actually makes him look smart during many scenes. It's mostly just better but L is still the best character of the show, obviously. He and his dynamic with Light is what makes the first part of the series more enjoyable to watch. But the second part certainly is better written.

what an interesting opening to the episode, showing us the world Light has created :) Ryuk just hanging around is so fun :D that was a great conversation they had in regards to Kira, its just like the justice system, some people will be for it and some against it, at the end of the day whoever wins is right thats how human society works :) plus one cant deny Kira does have results so they can try and call him out all they want but they dont have much in terms of counter arguments :P one can say Kira rules by fear, well the justice system fundamentally rules by fear too, people dont do certain things cause they are afraid of the consequences, not because they are pure or whatever :D that blonde woman works with Near we have seen her briefly :) Mello has become two-face xD here I gotta be critical of the show cause the writing got a bit questionable, for Near to just assume that Mello told him the truth about the fake rule and that its an absolute fact and then to assume that Ryuk simply lied to him, a shinigami, because Kira is making him do it, is quite the stretch, like why would you assume a shinigami is controlled by somebody and why would he just lie here, why wouldnt Mello lie or what if the info he received is the fake one, this is just super dodgy he cant come to these conclusions, its just for the plot convenience, plus how does he hear Ryuk he didnt touch the Death Note xD this whole part is just pushing it so that Near can be more of a threat to Light :P Light then taunting Near in the end was also just dumb he is not thinking this through at all this plan is just poor for his standards
