These past fillers definitely made luffy look more goofy/idiotic, but when it comes to things entrusted to him by people he cares/respects, he takes it very seriously, aka hat from Shanks, paper from Ace.

2025-09-14 02:04:23 +0000 UTCI'm a bit behind. Here Vivi is too nice. She wants to stop the rebellion and save everyone somehow through some unknown way. Luffy wants war. Luffy can usually get to the heart of the matter, he instinctively knows that to do. They're a pirate crew and it's better for them to tackle a problem head on. To put it another way, they don't need to be diplomatic, they are not heads of states, they don't need to negotiate and convince people. They are like rebels and outlaws, they have the freedom to go in and put a stop to Crocodile's plans directly, to take him out. Luffy says it simply, he wants to beat up Crocodile. Everyone understands that one of the seven warlords of the sea (Shichibukai) are excessively dangerous. If you remember originally Nami wanted to run. Only Luffy and Zorro are excited to meet one so early. Anyway, I was surprised when Luffy punched Vivi in the face. She was punching hard too because of her convictions. in many ways Luffy was showing VIvi respect by punching her and not holding back. He was also acting like a captain and making decisions. I guess he had to convince Vivi that their convictions were as strong as hers and that it was time to put all their lives on the line. It's not a question of doing the right thing because they are doing the right thing, it was about really committing to the task. The spines on this crew are outstanding! Why are they dong this,why are they going to war? It is for their friend Vivi... who's a princess and whose kingdom and people are being preyed upon by a malevolent force. The subtle points, Are they planning to fight evil and to set things right? Yes and no. That is happening by coincidence. Desires and motivations... just like Crocodile's machinations... they are not necessarily evil. It's just that they are disturbing Vivi's peace of mind. That is their reason for going against one of the powerful seven warlords of the sea and going to war. If you think about it, politicians have ambitions and they do their plans and machinations but if you ask them they'll say they're not evil. Luffy doesn't need to judge Crocodile's level of evil. He just sees that Vivi and her people, that their peace and calm are being disturbed. There is great wisdom in Luffy's narrow focus - he wants to beat up Crocodile. It's not about debating the merits of one ambition over another.

2025-08-16 09:47:26 +0000 UTCIt would especially get frustrating for Luffy since he had his crew escorting Vivi across 2 islands on their way to Alabasta, and already entangling themselves in fights against Baroque Works agents in Little Garden. Being reduced to her entourage and sitting on their hands while she leads them around goes against what they've already done for her sake.

2025-08-14 08:09:38 +0000 UTCThe translations are kind of rough at the end there. Luffy is telling Vivi that she's being naive. She's trying to do it all on her own and she's trying to do it in the safest and most "clean" way possible. Luffy is just a pirate. He doesn't see it as his business to liberate an entire country. He's there for Vivi. He's there to fight an enemy of a friend of his. Everything else is a nice bonus. Of course he'd prefer it if nobody dies. It's just that his priority is taking down Crocodile for the suffering he's causing to Vivi.
