I can't handle Kaide flashbacks :(

Hello Flexie, Once again, thank you so much for your reaction videos — especially the one on Eighty Six. I’m not sure if you’d like to get direct answers to some of the questions you asked in this video. For example, Shin’s age in the scene where we see him as a child with his Juggernaut, or Lena’s age when she was in a helicopter with her father. There are also some other details that are clearly given in the Light Novel — but never anything from beyond the episodes you’ve already watched. To be honest, I don’t think I could give you any major spoilers, just a few clarifications about certain points. I’m actually re-reading the Light Novel because your reaction videos to the anime made me want to dive back into it ^^’ But of course, I don’t want to share any information you’d rather not know or would prefer to imagine for yourself. Since I’m still new here, I’m not sure how you usually handle that. Obviously, no spoilers — that part is clear — but what about info that only comes from the Light Novel? So, I thought I’d ask first x] Take care of yourself, and I’m already looking forward to your next video. Thanks again!

Probably the best portrayal of ptsd in anime

Flexie, welcome to the 86 fan club! It only goes up and up from here. Poor Kujo wanted to meet lena, but he died before she took over spearhead squadron. Shin's brother Rei, I'm sure life in the internment camps was hard and then he got drafted to fight. Not to excuse what he did, but a crash out is to be expected under soul crushing amounts of stress. I think Annete is being bullied or ostracized or something like that. Thats why shes friends with Lena and has a soft spot for the 86, even if shes not all in like Lena is. Also explains why most of her suitors are creepy old men.

Itz A Dolphin

in episode 3 you can see a drawing in her book of the brother. so happy you watch 86 my favorite anime!

comparing ones live to that of a cherry blossom is a very samurai-esc philosophy, because during their time, a samurai's death could be, at any time, met on the battlefield or even ordered by their shogun for any reason. Samurai expressed this idea through poetry quite often I believe.

SailumX90

Same. And the ghost behind the dummy on the bench.

Mune Yotsuki

The shadow behind the dummy at the base when Shin is explaining about ghosts has a creepy face on it.

Mune Yotsuki

RIP Daiya and Lecca!

Jordan

I've never noticed in that scene on the stairway before until you brought it up that she imagined kissing him!!! You can even see the silhouette change to look like Shin. I can't believe I missed that all these years

dairyhouse

Lets goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! TY Flexie!

Jordan

Truth bombs falling everywhere in these episodes.

Mike E

Choke marks, especially ones as serious as the one shin has around his neck, do become almost this deathly white color. He did say he almost died so for it to stand out that much it does make sense.

The Para-RAID system allows for the transmission of the senses, from sight and sound to even emotions

You keep mentioning that you like the way the ending screen over which the credits roll each week is a freeze frame of the ending of the episode. I can finally make my comment! 😂 The ending freeze frame is great in more than one way. It’s always a frame could be framed and hung on my wall. It’s artistic but I love the way it allows me to sit with the emotion of the moment and contemplate. It seems to be an anime that expects its audience to think, which common only in anime, I think (no pun intended). So it is a great way to end because it is successful artistically and tele-visually (is that a word?). I think it also, now that we know about it from this episode, reflects what is happening with the black sheep: their final thoughts, their final moments have freeze framed and are playing over and over in the copied brain. If that’s intentional I really like it. It’s very effective for me. Creepy… but effective.

Thank you! I made my return to the stage from the surgery in 6 months. (Contemporary piece) and 8 months (for classical) it was an insane experience.

Jessica McCann

Flexie: the legion are using recordings to fight them? The Legion: something far more sinister The i don’t want to die scene in Lena’s room always gives me chills

SecondCityKyle

I want to commend you on getting through your surgery. My job is working disability claims and I work with people going through that exact procedure. Recovery time is 3-6 months with physical therapy in between and it takes a toll on someone. Kudos to you on making it through it!

Just on information you’ve already been given in previous episodes (so no spoilers)… The machines we are fighting were created by the Empire but they turned on their masters and killed all the humans. Now they are attacking us. No human is believed to be alive in the fallen Empire so they are not getting orders from anyone. This is why they believe the enemy machines will just shut down when their batteries run out in two years’ time. It’s easy to miss some of that because there’s always so much to process in these episodes. You’re just coming to terms with trauma as you miss the next bit of exposition lol. That was my experience anyway. I had to watch a few scenes more than once to understand a lot of things.

Caradoc Elmet

I have watched this show so many times. And thanks to Flexie for the catch that the shadows do change just shows the small things we can miss.

Lundquist

Man I love these long ass reactions theyre amazing. I'm already missing watching these and you havent even finished yet D: hahahah

Kruxx

😂 another one! You said it’s like having a friend on AOL back in the old days. I was just thinking it must be like having a Twitch channel 😂 😉 some of the people in the Twitch chat used to creep me the heck out! I don’t use Twitch any more. I’m sure they’re all lovely people nowadays 😇

Caradoc Elmet

Yes, I can imagine saying that. I lost more than 50% of my memories and much of what’s left is fragments. I know I was engaged twice in my lifetime and I know I can’t remember the name, hair colour, face or anything of the second one. I don’t even remember that person’s scent. That’s what upsets me the most. I learned from my mother that that person had died before the wedding. I’m sure she would have mentioned the name but forming new memories is difficult and I must have forgotten again. So, yes. I can imagine. It’s not something you should trouble your own imagination with if you’ve no reason to. It’s one of the worst feelings.

Caradoc Elmet

1:03:03 . Those characters are in a field of lycoris radiata, and those flowers have a certain symbolism in the anime. That's why I love 86, for those little details and symbolism in every shot.

Pedro Hernández

I’m glad you got to the part where you find out why he’s the undertaker. He doesn’t just carry their names with him. He always survives so he has to carry the weight of executing all his friends to prevent them from being turned into legion.

RedBeardGaro

hi there glad to see the video come online . As always its a blast to see your reactions. There were plenty of other countries around before the War. San magnolia was the home of the Alba but there were other people from other races and countries living there as well. They became the 86. San magnolia is under the impression that only they are left standing. As for shin searching for his brother... there comes the dark truth about the legion. taking the brains of the dead to be turned into processors for legion units to overcome the 2 year shutdown timer since the Empire is no longer there to produce new processors. . The guess about the pieces of his Juggernaut was a nice theory though. No they are not using it as manipulation. only shin can hear it. As to how ....... that comes later. The others hear it all over the pararaid network same as Lena. Definitely keep in mind the part about the undamaged brains. Thats important.

chrysmal felix

Without spoiling I will mention just one thing. District 1 in the Republic is where government and the most upper class families are. 85 districts in total. COMBAT District 1 is where Spearhead Squadron is stationed. The two are completely different. So don't confuse them, because it's easy to sadly (took me few episodes to figure this out). Also symbol on Rei's Juggernaut is similar but on the same as Shin's.

Jan Negrey

Last paragraph needs to go, that's for much later.

Jake Thompson

Shin told Lena that he grew up in District 1, before the edict was passed that pushed all but the Alba out to the 86th district, but the Shepard he heard was in Combat District 1, which is outside of the 85 districts and is a part of the 86 territory they're defending. 51:00 Burying 86 would be leaving "evidence" of the 86, so that's a no go. Shin's elite unit is mostly staffed by teenagers, so almost every 86 older than their late teens/early 20s has already died, the level of attrition is too great. 52:00 Besides being symbolism for damaged brains vs a whole one, the flowers are withering because Kaie was the one taking care of them. 1:23:30 The flowers in Lena's vase mirroring Daiya's and Lecca's (Burnt Tayl) hair colors is a subtle touch.

So - regarding your question - at some point you do become partially numb to the death. But more importantly you learn to compartmentalize it. You won't grieve today. You won't grieve in unsafe situation. But depending on the person, you can only bottle it up so much. Which is why normally you rotate troops and they have some free time. If you don't then at some point they either strengthen their emotions to such a ridiculous degree that they appear as almost machine like. Or more often, they break down. There are few people that can walk the line in-between those extremes and I'm simplifying the heck out of this thing. At least Spearhead Squadron for now has a relatively safe place, where they can somewhat unwind. But that is only partial, since their safety isn't superb. And of course this can change. Which increases stress additionally.

Jan Negrey

Enjoying it dub and sub with Flexi, it's awesome the best of both languages.

Red Moon {赤い月}

From a military perspective, thankfully I didn’t go through a lot of lose with my unit. That which I did, although a long time ago, the memories aren’t prominent, but they’re strong memories. I can’t imagine the amount of survivor guilt and PTSD all the people in the 86 have to go through daily

Andrew S

This show is one of the best directed first seasons of any anime. Right up there with frieren mushoku Tensei and one punchman

DocGreen

At this point in the story, both Shin and Lena are 16. Lena is actually a few months older than Shin. At the time of the crash and her father's death, she was probably 7 or 8.

Benjamin Sones

As a fan that has watched this anime more times that I can count, the number of time I think “you’re not ready” to the questions you’re asking is insane… you’re not ready, you’ll get you’re answers soon enough don’t worry

Chris Giroux

I believe at the beginning of the show Lena and shin are both 16 (which means hes been fighting since he was 10 or 11). (edited)

Shucks

So hyped, so disappointed. But Patreon sadly has issues like this. Not your fault.

Jan Negrey

nooo! Hope you can fix it!😭

JennyLH

The show does this sort of thing constantly, but keep an eye out for the visuals around 14:26 in ep7. Very cool little detail.

Shucks

it's no problem.😁

Codrut Radu

Aw sh** what did Patreon do ☠️ ok lemme fix it sorry guys. 😭

Jessica McCann

It won't let me play and see it 😢
