I don’t think AFO gets enough credit as a villain. I’m talking all time greats. Bro is hella powerful, got the most OP quirks, master manipulator, makes like a million contingency plays and he does this ALL FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME. Bro just likes fucking shit up and being on top, that’s it. I haven’t watched past this season so I don’t know if his portrayal changes but up to this point I lfucking love this guy as a villain.

That war has costs for both sides, and its ugly. Deku fundamentally is repelled by the idea of anyone else getting hurt, especially because of him, and he's been forced to face reality, and it pushes him completely to the brink. Its something very few MC have to face in such demonstrative clarity. Yuji from jjk comes to mind first, Naruto in the later parts of the war arc too.

Thats EXACTLY WHY I LOVE THIS SHOW AND WHY I THINK ITS SO GOOD. it takes the classic shounen hero archetypes and then... just. It takes the caterpillar, puts it in a cocoon, and then it morphs into a butterfly. That's how this shows themes evolve it feels like. The fact that this show/shounen puts such an emphasis on TEAMWORK. On collective action. Being THERE for ppl—not just beating up villains and being strong. It starts with Deku saying "here's how I became the greatest hero" and then it morphs into " here's how WE became the greatest heroes". LIKE. RAHHHHHHHH. INCREDIBLE. Mha has a lot of flaws, but goddamn does the writing also go so hard that it's hard not to love it. And not only that, but ur right. Starting the show--you'd never think what's happening rn would happen. There's literally no way to predict it. It's like a slow burn until within 2 seasons it goes from a simmer to a boil and then suddenly its bubbling out of the pot. Does this metaphor make any sense? Prolly not. Oki anyways rant over. ~~~ "noo not with the flashbacks" rip this is gonna tear u apart isnt it ~~ oh my GOD I FORGOT ABOUT THAT LINE FROM BAKUGOU. WHY DOES THAT GO SO FUCKIN HARDDDDD. This right here is the exact reason himiko toga is my fav char in the show even tho most dont get her or empathize with her (at least when shes first introduced and prolly for awhile afterwards)—having gone through similar experiences (cant relate to the stabby stabby murder but hey ill take what i can get 🤷) of being born different and told it was bad from a young age. Told how to act ("corrected") to be socially acceptable from a young age. Having trouble with connecting and feeling close to others but wanting it so bad anyways & just. trouble with personal relationships. Masking who u are until that mask breaks—and u have no choice but to live outside the social norm. The issues with trust, afterwards, wondering how ppl u know are going to treat you. How are new ppl you meet going to treat you? Are they going to treat you like you're a person, worthy of love? Even with everything u deal with that in the eyes of most of society—makes u worthless/wrong/a freak/a leech (especially for disabled ppl)/etc? The allegories/metaphors this could pose for. This kinda thing is exactly why I love how horikoshi included the stories of the league of villains. The closest other story I relate to is Shouto and his family. But... damn it. idk. Yeah. Its just. I'm losing the thread of the thought I was going with. I just dont think I've seen stories like these explored super well in an animated show (which is most of what I watch) or in a written story and it hits powerfully. Ill be forever grateful to horikoshi for this, and for giving me these stories and characters i hold dear to me. Not only that, but it also acts as a reference for others. A way to learn about these issues through fictional characters. I imagine for some ppl who were bullied in their life or had some sort of similar experience, bakugo apologizing might be cathartic af (or maybe its not? Idk. Maybe everyone reacts differently), and really rewarding to see him grow as a character. Rewarding to have izuku get that closure and apology from his past bully—on top of it also being such an incredible moment in the entire series. ~~~ sry, this ended up even longer. With “You say run” playing in the background for the first time this season… I love this show man
