I love this set of episodes because of how awesome, emotionally powerful & triumphant they are. The less said about Mr. 7 & Miss Father’s Day the better just know that I don’t like them but at least they serve a purpose to give Vivi a great moment. Nami’s plan to get to the bomb fast enough is crazy & chaotic which is so very Straw Hat but I love how it’s also well thought out at the same time. I love that Vivi got to take out those 2 & show off her fighting skills because while she might not be able to deal with extremely powerful enemies she is no slouch when it comes to combat. I love that Vivi’s father got to hear Luffy’s perspective about how far Vivi is willing to go to protect/save her country because while he already knew she was an amazing person but Luffy talking about her emphasizes that even more. I love how Luffy talks about how friends are willing to help each other even if it doesn’t benefit you directly because that’s what friendship is all about. Saying this to Crocodile who doesn’t trust people & is fine with sacrificing others for his goals is interesting especially when it just pisses him off more. Also don’t feel weird about speculating/analyzing characters to try to figure what a character’s deal/past is all about I love the theories it really shows how much of a fan you are of the show this story has some of my favorite characters so it’s fun to see you thinking about them like this. I like the snapshots of each second before Vivi stops the the burning fuse. It’s so upsetting & horrifying to see Crocodile gloat about how he installed a timer in the bomb as a contingency just in case because it really makes it feel like the protagonists can’t save the country. I appreciate how this part of the story handles/conveys Vivi’s emotions because it’s like you are feeling the anguish & despair right alongside her. And that is enhanced even more with how her movements & facial expressions are animated and the voice acting which is so raw & visceral with her anger, frustration & sadness. I like how she talks about this as yet another example of Crocodile toying with & mocking them I imagine she must feel humiliated to some degree & it’s made worse knowing he sees them as pawns in his game. I love the flashback showing Vivi’s relationship with Pell it’s wholesome & heartwarming. I think it’s very cute that she trusts him to keep secrets & protect her and it’s sweet that he takes her flying because it makes her happy. I think the most powerful part of the flashback for me is the moment of Pell disciplining Vivi when she did something dangerous because of the emotional aspect of things with the biggest reason he was worried about her not being something stereotypical like it’s not becoming of a princess or something dumb like that but because he cares about her & was worried that something worse than an injury. Although I love how Pell talks about why he’s a soldier not to attack but to defend the country & it’s people & it’s great writing to have Vivi as a child not understanding the difference when as an adult she does and it works really well themeticly with everything going on with Vivi in this arc. I love how the only thing that’s going through his head as Pell prepares to sacrifice himself to stop the bomb is the past he shared with Vivi showing how much he loves her as a guardian figure that has been with her for so long it’s sad/melancholic in a wholesome way. Having the only sound be the ticking of the bomb, the wind & Pell’s movements and his voice acting is amazing in terms of presentation. In my mind the things he is thinking of before the end all have to do with protecting the country & his feelings about the King, Vivi and the people. And I think there is merit in that idea with his last line being I am the guardian of Alabasta falcon as well as just who he is as a person. It’s insane to see the scale of the explosion with how large it is & seeing the clouds get cleared out of the sky. And the symbolism of the crumbling falcon statue is a nice final touch. I love what you said about how much Vivi has been losing alongside her country thanks to Crocodile because it shows even more why people find her emotionally powerful/resonant as a character & it makes Crocodile all the more despicable. I’m glad you are enjoying Crocodile as a villain I agree that really intelligent villain are often some of the best villain because it makes them all the more dangerous. I completely understand why you were getting emotional with the flashback followed by the sacrifice Pell is a legend for saving all those people. It’s chilling to see Crocodile celebrating how he is going to start on the road to his ambition thinking he has defeated Luffy finally & has gotten rid of all the obstacles in his way. I love how Luffy gets back up from being close to being paralyzed through his immense willpower it’s amazing. Every time Luffy says that he’s going to become the King of the Pirates it’s always hype & peak but I like how it’s different this time with Luffy talking about how he wants to surpass his opponent for the 1st time & I think that’s because after facing Crocodile multiple times he has fully internalized that he will have to surpass/overcome many powerful Pirates/opponents if he wants to achieve his goal. I loved hearing you go on a discussion about the potential past/back story of Crocodile based on some of his lines in response to Luffy because I think stories like this are the perfect place for theories/inferrences based on small amounts of dialogue and it’s probably something authors enjoy keep it up. I think everyone gets emotional over Vivi just begging the people to stop fighting after nothing even a giant explosion seems to be able to stop them because obviously she knows it’s not going to work but is at the end of her rope after experiencing more trauma seeing Pell’s sacrifice & it’s the only thing she can think of in her desperation that a miracle will make it so they hear her as she cries & screams herself hoarse over and over again. I love how just like Luffy when others can’t hear her voice her crew does. I love that while it’s obvious that the entire crew is upset to see Vivi going through this but Nami is the one having to hold back tears & gets everyone in gear to prevent as many casualties as possible. I think this speaks to Vivi having a more special connection with Nami because while Vivi has formed a deep connection with the entire crew I think that because they are both women who have gone through some shit made it so the relationship they formed to be closer than the others since they have more understanding of each other. I think it’s awesome to see Luffy not holding back even more than in his other fight with Crocodile being completely unrelenting, not giving him time to breathe for even a second with attack after attack seeing Luffy with such a fierce look on his face is amazing it shows how scary he can be to his enemies. I love the thematic aspect to Luffy’s final attack that takes out Crocodile being named storm when Crocodile has been depriving Alabasta of water with his sandstorms as well as rain & Luffy is metaphorically & symbolically bringing the rain back to the country after so long. It’s incredibly awesome & crazy to see Luffy breaking through a lot of extremely strong earth to send Crocodile flying through the ground & into the sky and the animation/sound effects really do a great job of showing how powerful/much of a impact his blows are having on him & the Earth itself. I love the symbolism of how Luffy defeats him bringing the boss of an underground organization that has kept his intentions to go against the World Goverment & crimes against Alabasta hidden for so long into the light of day for everyone to see. There is something really emotionally satisfying about the symbolism of the rain once again falling on Alabasta once again after Crocodile has been taken down & it being what finally allows the people to hear Vivi’s pleas to stop fighting as they look at the rain in shock & wonder as a new dawn rises on the country. And the emotion is even greater because of Vivi’s beautiful words & the amazing music choice. I love that they chose a really powerful peace of classical music for the end of the battle, the rain falling & the country’s nightmare being over because of how it conveys different feelings from the danger/intensity of a life-and-death fight, the triumphant feeling of Luffy’s victory & the emotion of Vivi’s voice being heard/the fighting finally ending. And I thought they matched the different parts of the song with the moments in the episode. I love the reactions of the Straw Hats to seeing Crocodile realizing it means Luffy won it’s great to see how relieved, happy & excited they are it shows how much they care. I love that Koza was the one who caught the 1st drop of rain because of everything with his father & how a lot of what he goes through is rediscovering his faith in the kingdom & the rain coming back after having lost that faith because of everything that happened to the Kingdom thanks to Crocodile. Finally I love the imagery of the sun shining down on Luffy & the king as he thanks him for everything. I agree that it’s awesome how Luffy says no problem like he just went to the supermarket instead of all of the crazy stuff he actually did. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Amazing reaction and commentary as usual, Flexie! Ngl I don’t remember if I teared up when I first watched this arc, but watching this reaction I found myself tearing up at Pell’s sacrifice, Vivi’s screaming moments and the end seeing Luffy’s smile. Perhaps it’s because of your lovely reaction, or because I grew to adore and understand these characters much more after rewatching one piece several times, but nevertheless, these moments are one of the best of this entire Alabasta saga! And I’m so happy you get to experience them at this moment in time, and you feel it so deeply!

Remember 4 months ago at Whiskey Peak ? When we found out Crocodile’s identity and Luffy just told Igaram he’d take on a Warlord dropping that casual "It sounds like fun !" 😆 After beating a big saga antagonist like that, I just love looking back at how far the crew has already come. It’s still the start of their journey and they’ve done so much already !

Icenight

Next to Luffy Zoro is the tankiest Strawhat member, bro can take a beating

Christopher Velasquez

wow I didn't remember that the closing of the arc was so epic and so emotional, with the soundtrack and everything. And A litelle SPOILER.

Once somebody finds the One Piece they'll supposedly be crowned Pirate King. Until somebody finds it, nobody is Pirate King. Gold Roger had it. Now nobody does.

Sindri

Gotta say this, what's more fitting than beating Crocodile with a symphony called "From the New World" and with a movement called "Gomu gomu no STORM". Come on man that's like telling him he's bringing the "Storm" to end the drought and create a "New World" where people are happy. For me, that's epic af.

Mr Red

I thought I’d have a lot to say in these emotional af episodes, but honestly you hit every point and everything I was gonna bring up for topics you covered in spirals 🤣 Amazing reaction as always, we cried with you and you’re a nakama at this point 🧡 Thank you for putting so much thought and effort into these- I love that you have notes and keep up with all the information the anime and comments give you, there’s so much information that even the people that are caught up miss 🤣

Flexy THANK YOU! For watching ONEPIECE in this time of your life! I’m Glad to be watching you on this amazing journey!!!

VoiceOfVoorhees

It rained just after crocodile went unconscious because his effect on the weather is gone as he was the reason there has been less rain in the country and creating sandstorms to make people suffer more and hate the king thinking he's using dance powder to create rain in the capital which means stealing it from them.

41:40 you have no ideia how much you sound like a veteran OP fan

Vivi screaming on top of the clock tower after Pell's sacrifice, the despair and desperation in her voice as she continues to fight after reaching basically the end of her rope. It's so powerful, and my single favorite moment in One Piece, at least top 5. This whole episode makes me cry every time, though half of that is probably the impeccable music choice. Vivi really is my second favorite character next to Luffy.

But he wasn't done despite his weakness being revealed. In fact he won again. Because he is that strong and that smart. Because like he said he didn't just count on the raw power of his DF, but trained with it and learnt its potential. He also lost because of his arrogance, never bothering to finish him, twice. Of course while Luffy was very lucky, he also got help thanks to his personality and charm... and indeed got the strongest will

Zarathos Daimaoh

The imagery of Crocodile, who's been working in the shadows the entire time, being thrust into the sky for everyone to see, followed by the rain and Vivi declaring their nightmares are over after her voice finally reaches everyone... Man, Oda is so insanely good at writing endings, both to his arcs (hello Drum Island), as well as his fights (Crocodile, Arlong, ...) Also the music choice made by the anime was ridiculously good. That orchestra just HITS.

Trizzen

Crocodile's strengths were his intelligence and his devil fruit. Yes he's a warlord, but he can't fist fight. He was too reliant on his powers and using gimmick weapons, so once someone can figure out his weakness if they can exploit it, he's done. His downfall was trusting no one while luffy has help left and right. Luffy's persistence is something he can never defeat. Don't worry, Flexie. We're all obsessed with Roger's D.
