Nah we are all crying today...

86: EIGHTYSIX Episodes 9-11 | PATREON EXCLUSIVE SERIES

Comments

I think for once, Shin just doesn't want to be the last man standing...he wants to know that people are still alive behind him. Edit: omg wait, he put down his burden. He buried his dead! He has no wish to have the same mission place on his shoulders again.

Alex Hencher

there is a really good youtube video called "86 Eighty Six - Reviewing Details You Missed From the Anime Part 1" that adds so much insight on the episodes we already watched. It would be a great watch instead of watching a recap episode...you wont get copyrighted either...its by ctrlaltQQ. I felt like I really understood and appreciated the anime that much more for watching it.

Sparky Reynolds

When i was young and a skater (skateboarding), whenever we saw cops we would yell "86", which meant for all of us to vanish and be gone.

Sparky Reynolds

*aggressively scratching my neck* Ya'll got anymore of them 86 reactions(j/k, I know it's coming ha ha)

Ren Lichtfoot

I have watched 86 all the way through maybe three times now, and Anju collapsing outside the kitchen still wrecks me.

Timothy Sharp

DAUM.... yeah this is incredible

Jessica McCann

Sorry I got one last thing I'll point out this episode just has so much 😂 In the graffiti with the headless mannequin at the end you can see that the text says "Welcome to the base closet to heaven!" Where do people go when they die? To heaven.. So the graffiti is basically telling everyone who gets assigned to the Spearhead Squadron "Welcome, this is where you will die" This show is just too good I swear 😭

Varuna

Late to the party but really glad you're watching this series. It's a lot, in a lot of ways, and some other reactors have struggled to follow the details. You've really delivered in your observations so far, watching your wheels turn is always fun. It's a HEAVY show for sure but that's kinda why I love it. It's a masterclass in connecting on an emotional level. Only 11 episodes in and you just feel fucking EVERYTHING. Good stuff happening? I wanna cry. Bad stuff? I wanna cry. A simple interaction happens? I WANNA FUCKING CRY, MAN. Creating that level of emotional investment in such a short time is bonkers. Frieren might be the only other series that I've watched where I felt things so deeply so quickly. And it's near perfection across the board. The animation, soundtrack, VAs, there's not a single weak link to be found. That Fido episode is outrageous in how effective it is, downright genius direction. Might also have my favorite ED ever, such a gorgeous track. I've listened to the full version an obscene number of times.

Vaxus335

The weight of every situation hits the emotions perfectly. All great works of art are able to envoke emotions from it's viewers... but this show hits different....its so underrated.

Sparky Reynolds

after this episode it took me over a year to watch the next episode

Sparky Reynolds

I suggest you skip new opening until ep 16

Sawwwwa

I don’t know if anyone has said it but I’m a cook and 86 is a code in the kitchen and some stores that means that they don’t have a surtían dish or item. So we say to 86 a dish it means to take a dish out of the menu or in this anime to get spearhead out of existence. Hope you read this and mention me in your next video that will be so sick

Luis Uchiha

i started this show because of your comments about it here on patreon lately—so i was already expecting it to be good, but HOLY SHIT… i was not braced for how deep down the rabbit hole this show would go. and it feels like it could just be teeing itself up for the real story. feels very aot meets frieren and that’s a potent combination. (with just a dash of gundam) i could probably write a wall of text gushing over this show at this point and i’ve only just now caught up to these episodes. suffice it to say, thanks for all the great reactions as always. can’t wait for more! p.s. - maybe watch something with less characters dying next. 😂

Cornelius Ukena

I'm not sure if you've noticed or anyone pointed it out to you yet but all the people that died that appeared at end of the Opening get taken from a scene at the beginning of the Opening. It happened everytime during the episodes. Even happened to Fido although he doesn't appear at the end. Probably because he is a robot so he wouldn't be going to an afterlife.

Adrian Eccelston

I was fighting the urge to say this for a while, for pacing reasons, but these first 9 episodes are based on the first novel. You see shows adapt a novel into like 4 or 5 episodes. They embellished it in the best ways and there's plenty of information to spread out.

Mike E

Pour one for the homies in Spearhead, may you never be forgotten 🥹

Kruxx

I need the rest of the show posted ASAP please! 😂 you are such an amazing person and reactor!!

MikeyD

The stunned, shocked, flabbergasted feeling is exactly how I felt. I just sat there like WTF!? Your reactions are phenomenal, I love watching you putting all the pieces together and seeing it all click. I love this show because it showcases the best and worst of humanity. How different mind sets change everything about your outlook on life, cherish the little things, and whatever you believe in is worth fighting for...even if it brings your downfall

Wheaty

The manipulation of Annette was ruthless and much deserved. I loved it. When she's running at the end of episode 9, she's trying to keep them in range. They didn't run away, they had orders for extended recon, duration unlimited. They are basically told to disappear and/or die. They escaped, they went beyond the countries communication and ruling range. They're free. And the red flower is Red Spider Lily, it signifies death, the afterlife. The world is beautiful untouched by humans in episode 10. Legion held territories has no one left, except the 5 of them now. Also, why keep fighting with only 5 machines and limited ammo/supplies. They're playing it smart and only fighting when they have to. Fidget gets to yiu every time...i cry every time 😭 everyone talked to him like he was family. He was their safety blanket. He even cries at the end, the fluid dripping out of his eye. Episode 11 when we swap from Shin to Lena, that cut away...you look so pissed!! The cliffhangers will get you every time. They knew she'd come visit, they gave her closure, reinforced her reasons for fighting. It's a good end to the arc.

Wheaty

Ngl, I thought the Fido episode was so well done. It was so cool how they managed to wrap it all up and endear the viewer to Fido in such a short time.

I love this show so much, and I am glad you are enjoying it, trauma and all. The payoff at the end is totally worth it but yeah, keep the tissues handy, we are only scratching the surface right now.

You know what, waiting for your next reaction video feels a lot like waiting for the next episode back when the show was actually airing. At least this time I don’t have to wait four months to get some answers xD I’m really grateful that you’re continuing to watch this show with us. It’s truly heartwarming. Sometimes, when you really love something, like a game or a show, you wish you could erase your memory just to experience the joy of discovering it again for the first time. And watching this show through your eyes feels a bit like that for me, something I’ve never experienced before. It’s just so, so, so great. Thank you so much for that. It’s also a bit strange to feel happy about it, because this show mixes pain with relief, sadness with joy. Eighty Six really messes with us, making us sob in front of our screens, and yet we’re glad it does XD At the same time, I’m a little nervous watching your reactions, because maybe you won’t like the show. And that’s a crazy feeling too. Even though I know Eighty Six can’t be everyone’s cup of tea (which is perfectly fine), I still have this deep wish for everyone to see its beauty. So watching someone like you, who clearly has a deep love for good stories, experiencing a show I love so much… it’s a bit scary. Even though I know it’s not a big deal, it’s normal, it’s not the end of the world, I can’t help but spiral into thoughts like: “What if she doesn’t like it? Does that mean my feelings about this show are wrong? Am I wrong?” XD Despite that, I really hope you’ll enjoy the second part of the show, and I’ll be eagerly waiting for your next reaction. And last but not least, the fact that you put so much effort into bringing this content to us… I can’t thank you enough.

Argails

There's a youtube video that explains everything that happened in part 1 (From episode 1 to 11). It will not spoil you anything as you've now watched part 1 of the season. You can look it up, it's from CtrlAltQQ. I highly recommend you watching the video. Here's the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dn1f0zKh7O8

Bobby N

I am glad you're enjoying this show as much as I did. I love rewatching it and I am so happy you're watching and reacting to this anime. When you have time please go back through the fido flashback and pay attention to the different images.

RedBeardGaro

Second half is way better too lmaoo get the tissues

joe

“I love Fido guys” 5 minutes later “Boom” In seriousness though there are very few things in life that makes me shed tears and this anime is one of those very few it’s an incredible and emotional roller coaster and really hope they adapt a second season soon

The KnightGundam

1:02:14 is a neat hint towards the reveal that Aldrecht is Alba, the way he shields his eyes with the clipboard. The last frame at 1:12:23 is pretty interesting if you can pause it at the right time.

Jake Thompson

RIP Shin.

Mune Yotsuki

There's something about the ED song dude. The low. heavy piano and strings but the vocals are so soft. Such a strong feeling of quiet somberness. It is used to the fullest effect every ep, I can't name another anime that does it like this. It takes these moments up a whole level IMO.

Shucks

Why Shin didn't use his pistol: At 1:29:59 you can see him reach for his pistol as he says that they're after his head At 1:30:03 his juggernaut is rocked by the legion destroying its legs At 1:30:17 his pistol is on the ground of his juggernaut where he can't reach it So he was going to use it but it got knocked out of his hands by the legion attack.

Jacob

On my original watch, I think after these three episodes I laid and cried for about an hour and then my stages of grief settled on anger for about two weeks and I was unable to click play on the next episode until I had that two week break 😂

Andrew S

(You can skip the recap, BTW. It really is just a summary of what's happened so far that was aired right before the second cour started. There's no new content in it.)

Benjamin Sones

A bit of a sad fact is that the picture Theo left of Spearhead for Lena was faded so she couldn’t actually see what their faces looked like. Now for a slightly lighter fact, when Lena linked up with Raiden they both could see through each other’s left eye and while Lena couldn’t see what Raiden looked like in the reflection of his Juggernaut he could see what she looked like in the reflection of her screen

A Human Fish

Also, Lena didn't ask permission to go there, because New Lena doesn't ask permission, and she doesn't ask for forgiveness either. New Lena is Done Fucking Around.

Benjamin Sones

The book being All Quiet on the Western front is amazing addition made by the anime…as that’s the story of young German soldiers in WWI fighting on the western front basically slowly losing support, supplies, food, mental well being and their lives mirroring the 86, except flipped as San Magnolia is based on France and Giad is based on Germany Don’t be ashamed I cry during the cat scene and the Fido scene every time and i know it’s coming The red and blue color scheme they use at times also symbolizes something if you want that to add to your theory crafting

SecondCityKyle

Now imagine having to wait five months to watch the next episode.

Benjamin Sones

RIP Shin and whole crew

Vít Pekárek

The ending of episode 11 was absolutely criminal at the time. When you have time, you might want to look at the Fido flashback in more detail.

Darthpenguin

I cried SO HARD over Fido's death, and everything leading up to it, the first dozen times I saw episode 10.

Mune Yotsuki

I think our Para-RAID's were linked together, as i was sending my tears through your eyes.... I feel the last three episodes should be done together also, what does everyone think?

James Du Tiger

They say there are 7 minutes of brain activity when a person dies. Fido, reliving his flashbacks... were 7 minutes long 🥲 Also, for the song Hands Up to the Sky the lyrics go as such; "1, 2, 3.. we've made it through" "4 & 5. you've got it too" "7 our dream has come true" "and 9 what you gonna do?" Can you take a guess as to what 2 numbers are missing? Also shoutout to Kohta Yamamoto and Sawano Hiroyuki (The same guy who makes the AOT soundtracks) for these stunning soundtracks

Varuna

Loved the reaction, Flexie! This show does bring out the emotions, but that's what makes it so good. That's what makes any show good, is when they bring out those emotions. I look forward to your reaction each week adn can't wait for the next! Hopefully it is 12 & 13 and not just the recap *fingers crossed.*

Eric-86 District

I am not a very emotional guy when watching shows, but 86 has some secret sauce in its combination of story, voice acting, and music that will just suddenly bring tears out of me. Shin’s voice actor in particular hits some sort of chord deep inside me that no other voice actor has ever even got close to. Truly a legendary performance for a legendary anime. Also, that shot of Lena’s determined face when she’s standing on the tracks at the end is burned into my soul. Feel like it could be used as the perfect example when teaching art students how to draw determination.

Kevin

Also for a sad as it is jesus this story is so incredible, im so happy to be here for the journey!!!

Blake Chestnut

Theres a few times that they throw out some hints, like when annette is going off on lena, theres a picture hung up that presumably shin drew of him and annette with his brother in the skull knight suit... also in that same scene this is where they start giving peice's of shins history be it the powers and parents, a few of those hints are in fido's memories they flash them really quick before he blows up ;( . This show became like an obsession the way everything is directed be it music artwork the symbolism everything is just so brilliant, some of the things you miss on the first journey. Even better the second time through!!! you catch soooo many more things

Blake Chestnut

Can understand you i think my i would be the same. Kinda hard to talk about everything after so much happening. Happy to see that u enjoying this show this much.

Sikk Karuzo

I love this show so much. Its the little details that sneak up on you. Like unexpectedly caring WAY too much for a robot (Fido)... I was the same way. And how about that montage?? It is sooo beautifully crafted... short little moments, snapshots of their lives, that captured the human experience. After just 10min, I was left in a puddle of my own tears asking... what did I just watch?!?!

pocketaces

Did you notice that one picture from Fido? A bit younger Shin or someone who looks like Shin? 1:05:36-37 in? With date 10/3/2138 or 3/10/2138? Interesting things can be inferred from this, but I was very lucky to spot it and Vimeo isn't the best in capturing stills. But I wonder if it's some error or something else, more important?

Jan Negrey

The moment you said you love Fido I was like ohh no, she got attached who is going to tell her. :|

Daniel arisa

Shin getting progressively more insane as he is "living normal life" (except he lacks purpose completely) is really scary.

Jan Negrey

The Fido POV is still some of the most beautiful part of the story to me and always makes me cry.

Renaud Nadeau

They weren't running away--they were following the last order they were given (the one that Lena didn't want to give them), to embark on a "long recon" into Legion territory and not come back. Basically, a suicide mission. They are "free" in the sense that they are leaving Republic territory, but not really free in the sense that now they are in Legion territory with limited supplies and no support. Lena was running in their direction in the end because they were at the limits of the Para-RAID's range and she was trying to stay in contact with them for as long as possible.

Benjamin Sones

Thank you so much for persevering through life, technical difficulties, and emotional struggles to get us here.

Mune Yotsuki

I was really hoping she already knew that. So many reactors who have watched tons of anime still don't know cultural things like that.

Mune Yotsuki

The flowers are red spider lilies and in Japan symbolizes death, loss or the afterlife, that sort of stuff. It is pretty common in anime and sometimes is a major red flag lol

Ecodude

If I had one word for these episodes? Unforgettable.

Shucks

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I will probably cry a lot, but I thank you for this reaction.

Jan Negrey

TIME FOR PAIN!
