One Piece - Episodes 129-130 (EARLY UNCUT ACCESS)

ALABASTA SAGA & Arc is coming to a close.. and I'm A MESS!!

Comments

You got hit with the One Piece Effect (i.e. crying really hard at a bittersweet moment)

Light of the Broken Crystal

Also, it does kind of cement the precedent of Zoans being ridiculously tough and recovering really well. Not to mention that explosions overall seems to not really be that good at destroying people in one piece... mostly. And another thing, this is also just a few episodes after usopp survives a 4 ton bat to the face. I get that it cheapens the sacrifice to a lot of people, but for me it's kind of similar, the intent was there and that's the most important part for me.

Zero

i can understand igaram being alive because i think robin just made it seem like she killed him, but the pell thing just completely ruins the emotional impact it had :(

umi➴

Bon-chan is a real one

dairyhouse

In a world of amazing characters, Bon Clay is the best of them.

Garrett Hobson

Just in case this is something Flexie would consider a spoiler I’m leaving this as a separate comment I will delete it if a moderator asks me too. That music when Robin smiles at Zoro is considered to be Robin’s theme by fans & I think it’s officially labeled as her theme as well. I love that music a lot & I think it really fits her vibe. Once again awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Supermonaman

I love episode 130 it has a lot of stuff to think about & is a really nice bow on the arc as we head towards Skypeia. I think it’s really sweet that Vivi kept her eyes on the ocean for as long time probably wanting to keep the Going Merry in her sight for as long as possible. I love how she has so much faith in the Straw Hats she’s not worried at all she knows they will successfully escape. I love how we have the very nostalgic 1st ending called Memories which is an ending that means a lot to One Piece fans including myself as we go on a trip down memory lane of the stuff we have experienced & people we have met on the island of Alabasta. I love how this section of the episode is focused on the people of the country with a central character with a connection to the Straw Hats/Vivi like Koza & his father because we get to see their happiness knowing that they have a bright future and it’s crazy that this is possible only because of Luffy’s desire to help a friend. It’s a wholesome moment to see Toto smiling knowing exactly who Vivi was talking about. It feels so good to see all the happiness of the people & the rebuilding process after all the suffering and turmoil we saw all throughout the Island it’s like a full circle. I love how as Vivi heads back to the capital she reflects on how her adventure with the Straw Hats may be over but the next adventure to heal the country has only just begun because it really helps conceptualize how much Vivi has gone through & how hopeful but realistically tough the mission to rebuild/heal the country is. Also I think it’s impressive to see how much confidence/resolve/determination Vivi has thinking about this. I like Hina’s Devil Fruit it’s cool, useful & like you said a fitting power for a Marine. I appreciate that at least Hina seems to think that Smoker is a little happy that the Straw Hats got away I assume maybe because he feels like they deserve to get away this 1 time because they helped Alabasta and it shows that she understands her friend. I like how Smoker is making sure Tashigi is okay in his own way it just feels a little weird because he’s a little gruff & not the most emotionally expressive but the sentiment is there. I like Luffy’s simple solution to stopping the rest of the Marine ships just throw their weapons back at them & it’s really funny to see everyone else shocked that happened & worked. I think everyone except Zoro being sad that Vivi didn’t come is cute only because of how their faces are animated. With his personality I think it makes sense that he is more nonchalant about Vivi not coming along. Also the insult Zoro moment is wild especially Luffy LOL. The idea of Robin just hiding below deck while all the chaos is going on deck is funny. Everyone’s reactions to Robin just casually strolling out are priceless especially Usopp shouting out warnings through a megaphone LMAO. I love that Robin saved Luffy twice this time in the underground by giving him a cure for Crocodile’s poison & I also like that because she’s clever/smart she didn’t just have a contingency for his sand DF but his poison hook as well. I like that Cobra knew that Robin had lied to Crocodile about Pluton immediately because it gives us a great Robin moment showing that she may have been willing to do underhanded & violent stuff in the name of her dream but wasn’t willing to destroy a country or give something so powerful to a man like Crocodile giving us a wider perspective about her. And once again we have the great theme of the dreams people have with how Robin wants to find what she calls the real history which is very interesting especially when a lot of the audience know of the concept/saying “history is written by the victors” it’s a cool concept to have in a manga/anime. It’s sad that having no clues left Robin basically gave up on living. It’s awesome that Luffy having already gone through so much in his fight against Croc carried 2 fully grown adults out of the collapsing Tomb. I always found it so interesting how Luffy responded to Robin saying to leave her & let her die saying why should I listen to you because we don’t often see that amount of harshness from him. I like how you understand/know Luffy well enough at this point that it’s obvious that if he had a choice he would not leave someone to die especially knowing that Robin saved even if he might not know why it’s meant to be conveyed to the audience its another thing I like about Luffy. Also Robin saying to let her join the crew because he made her live when she wanted to die is pretty dark. As a child I was obsessed with & still am obsessed with Luffy just saying yes along with don’t worry she’s a good person with that damn smile like who is this amazing man. Usopp interviewing Robin is hilarious and I really like learning more about Robin because of it. It’s enjoyable to see Robin slowly win over the whole crew by appealing to their personalities but I really like Nami being won over because of her specific reactions & how she starts to call her big sister it’s cute. Also I think the moments of Robin doing this show off that she has really good observational skills. Usopp trying his best to emulate Zoro to look tough is adorable it feels like Zoro is the big brother & Usopp is the little brother in that moment LOL. I love how you can feel Zoro’s frustration as the 2 other most reasonable & rightly suspicious members of the crew just get immediately won over by Robin. I like that at least 1 person isn’t welcoming Robin onto the ship with open arms because I think it would feel wrong if Zoro wasn’t wary of her. Also Robin giving a little smile at Zoro as what I would describe as sultry/mysterious music plays is a scene that sticks with you. Also to me it’s really funny because I think in Zoro’s head he must be confused just thinking what the fuck am I supposed to do/react with that. I forgot to say some stuff 1st off I love Robin’s outfit during most of the arc of the purple coat & cowboy hat I really wish she kept but I love her more casual outfit on the ship because it shows confidence & her being at ease with most situations also I always loved her cool/unique eyes. And I love that Vivi puts her hair back into a ponytail at the end of her section of 130 she looks great with that hairstyle. You laughing & crying in episode 130 is a mood & I think that’s a good way to describe One Piece it will make you laugh & cry sometimes at the same time. I loved hearing your thoughts/theories about Robin in this reaction. Finally I guess it’s time to talk about the elephant in the room or perhaps I should say falcon LOL Pell’s fakeout death. All I will say is that I think it’s the worst writing decisions Oda has made & 1 of the few times I have had a big criticism of Oda and I agree it lessens the impact of his sacrifice but at least I don’t think it lessens the impact of the arc as a whole. And at least it doesn’t make me care less about his relationship with Valerie and he was still ready to sacrifice himself for the country & saved a lot of people so at least there’s that as well. I can’t wait for your Alabasta wrap up video & your reactions to the Jaya/Skypeia arc. Awesome reactions & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Supermonaman

I love episode 129 so damn much it’s beautifully emotional. I love that the entire country is celebrating Vivi & the speech she is about to give it shows how much the country loves her. I love that as soon as the Straw Hats told Bon Clay that they are putting themselves in danger to meet a friend he is all in on helping them because he believes in friendship & friendship seems to mean a lot to him. It’s ironic that someone who is so moved by ended up working with Crocodile it makes me wonder why he worked for Baroque Works if there was a reason besides money since I assume Crocodile paid them well or at least I hope he did LOL. The plan to get the Straw Hats to Vivi is simple but genius & effective I love all of the disguises Bon Clay & his crew wear it’s funny too. I really respect his resolve to help the Straw Hats and I love his line about never wanting to shame themselves as a person. I think it’s neat that his Okama Way thing is a sign that he is Queer/LGBT I love how Oda was just like I wanted to put a Queer character in my story so here’s a Queer character. It’s really badass to see him give everything he has in this fight even knowing it most likely won’t end well & I love the gratitude the Straw Hats display. It’s extremely wholesome that when Cobra goes to hear out Vivi’s request he mistakes her for her late mother for a moment. Also her dress is absolutely beautiful & I think it’s sweet that Koza smiles when thinking about Vivi. I love that Cobra completely understood why Vivi wanted to say goodbye even though it was going to cause a scene. Her speech is beautiful & powerful I love how it’s all about encountering her crew and the adventures & darkness she saw. I love how when she talks about the ship pointing towards the light it represents how Luffy helped show her a better & right future for Alabasta. I love how much belief Luffy has that Vivi will come. I like how they threw us off the scent with the whole Igaraham disguising himself as Vivi at least a lot of the crowd enjoyed his dance LOL. It’s sad to see everyone so excited thinking Vivi was going to along only to have the wind out of their sails when she tells them she is here to say goodbye. Vivi is so strong putting on a brave face while she explains that she wants to go & makes it clear that she loves them and the Straw Hats mean a lot to her but the love for her country is calling stronger. But I love how she then gets emotional as to me it fully sinks in that this is goodbye. That’s something I love about Oda is how he doesn’t shy away from having characters “ugly cry” when dealing with extreme emotions because crying isn’t always pretty like it sometimes is depicted as it’s messy. And I think a lot of anime do a great Job with emotional stuff/characters getting emotional but there’s something about how Oda draws & the anime does the animation of the artwork of the ugly crying that really speaks to me and emphasizes & makes the emotional moments/scenes more impactful to me. Also I feel like that kind of vulnerability makes it clear her how much these characters trust each other as well as how powerful those emotions are. I love the sentiment behind Vivi asking if they would call her friend again if she ever went out to sea again and everyone immediately wanting to say yes. There is something rough about Vivi thinking that might not be true for a moment because they couldn’t respond not wanting to put her in danger by letting the Navy know that she is connected to pirates. I love that because they can’t speak they decide to show that the answer is yes through action by raising their fists to show off the X that is a mark of their friendship & it is such a beautiful representation of the bond they share. I love that the 1st opening plays at the end of 1 of the best episodes so far & what I think is some of Oda’s best writing of an ending for an arc yet especially because it is so iconic & really fits the theme/feeling of long-lasting friendship, trust & love here. It’s the emotional cherry on top of this friendship sundae. Also I almost forgot but I love that as soon as she says that the reason she is staying is because of how much she loves country he goes from sad/disappointed to completely understanding Vivi & it makes sense he respects that kind of resolve/desire and what makes his friends happy. I love what you talked about when it comes to the type of bond this episode & Vivi’s relationship with the Straw Hats is talking about that is sadly rare IRL. That kind of friendship is something to be treasured I love how Oda focuses on the positive aspects of friendship in this story. I love that you talked about your favorite goodbyes & how great Oda is at writing them because I completely agree Oda is great at many things in his writing but is best at flashbacks & farewells. I understand what you mean about feeling everything the characters are feeling & all of us understand & relate to breaking down over Vivi’s sendoff because it’s very emotional you are very valid/real this stuff never fails to make me cry or at least get emotional it’s so well done. I understand having a hard time holding yourself together after this it’s not an easy watch. Vivi is 1 of my favorite characters so I’m glad you ended up loving her so much. She is a Straw Hat no matter what anyone else although to be fair I have seen almost no one with something bad about Vivi and those that do seem to not be very happy. Hope to see you on the open sea again one day Vivi <3. I can’t wait for your Alabasta saga wrap up video for a lot of reasons especially to hear more of what you have to say about Vivi as a Straw Hat/character, Robin as a character, Crocodile as a villain, the character development we see & so much of the awesome Luffy content. Also more of your thoughts on Drum Island because it’s very important to me as well as some of the smaller things you might want to talk about. Awesome reaction & thoughts and as always I love your content. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Supermonaman

wasnt Igaram supposed to be killed by Robin, but a change made it so Robin would join the crew and Oda didnt want a crew member as a killer? Dont know for sure but think a youtuber spoke about this

Michael Jurrien

Pell being alive still irritates me

Welcome to One Piece

Bon Clay the GOAT!

andrew bla

Aah!, the pell incident. Classic

Madao

when vivi started crying, i started tearing and when you started crying, the tears just flowed...

Jacob Z Mulan

it doesn’t get any easier from here😂

mal

Stay strong this show is not easy

Mo za

We are!

Ctop D

showing a 5s clip of it still makes me feel it like the first day even ~15-20years later.

Sascha

g8 filler is probably the best filler of any mainstream shonen anime ever, so yes, keep it in , 100% worth watching. Also the saga after the upcoming one, tissues wont be enough, u gonna need ice for your eyes to calm them down.... and not once but twice or maybe 3x, good luck with it :P Also a question, maybe u gonna read it. Do you already feel the adventure vibe ? I think at this point One Piece establishes such a different feeling of a wild wide world YOU personally are exploring (with the crew) it blows my mind getting all giggly about the next island the , the next city the next ANYTHING. Its the closest thing to actually beeing an adventurer/explorer we hikomoris could dream about.

Sascha

Nah pell is too unimportant in the bigger picture so I dont really care in this case

GG420

Its only up from here

AyeYouKris

Pell being alive is the only reason I won't never consider op as a masterpiece.

Crimson

I think the unluckies bombed his ship and the hands were her pushing him off

Daniel Creasy

Pell surviving is to this day my biggest gripe with One Piece as a whole.

Sindri

1:12:14 he’s a falcon and presumably the fastest irl which has speed records above non Red Bull humans but the fact he lived is still a mystery we can best call Oda not wanting to kill characters - Oda cares about his story but sometimes that means takeout deaths and that’s ok with the scale of this story

Kcosta

9mins of reflection is crazy I’ll see the next reaction tonight tho and will 100% be paying attention but heck these two episodes are amazing and your reaction is fantastic as always

Kcosta

43:20 the snails are so funny, a more expressive snail will mimic the faces of their caller (detailed in an sbs) but a really good snail transponder will emote and shit but that one’s on another level to have a smoke ring 🤣🤣🤣 idt that’s in the manga but if it is that’s an impressive af snail

Kcosta

39:06 I honestly loved your ,.. breakdown .. of the first episode and we can’t forget Luffy using the term nakama with vivi- not for ep2

Kcosta

We might need the heart rate sometimes here

Kcosta

30:16 holy heck you just experienced the Vivi moment and yea we cried too don’t worry 🧡

Kcosta

18:16 Ik people have commented it before but Oh come my way was adapted from okama way which is closer to “queer life” and Bon Clay is a real one for taking that for the strawhats and we love him since his fight with Sanji

Kcosta

I'm amazed how many people believe this, but Pell's survival had nothing to do with 9/11... this is just a fan based conspiracy theory with no real evidence to back it up. The events are barely similar and One Piece wasn't even being translated into English until late 2002, which started with Romance Dawn anyway. Oda just doesn't like killing characters in present-day narratives, he's outright stated as much.

Ziggy Stardust

You’ll come to love Robin as much as you love Vivi. She adds an interesting dynamic to the crew, and you’ll grow fond of her to the point that she becomes inseparable from the rest of the crew much like Chopper is now. She’s also notably the only Straw Hat crew member to invite herself to the crew, without an official invitation from Luffy.

E

I would say Alabasta is Oda’s weakest arc, from a writing standpoint. Even weaker than the more criticized arc that follows it, precisely because Ods ruins everything he built up, by leaving Pell live.

E

I see a lot of mixed comments about Pell's death in here. The chapter originally released around the time of the 9/11 attacks, and Oda thought it would be in poor taste to have a bomb flown in the sky resulting in a character's death

Stingray

🔥

Jeremy Tierney

The goodbyes with Vivi is such an iconic scene, that moment with everyone lifting their arms showing the X is soooo well done

Rob

Ah another one piece milestone. Theres alot of smaller ones but this is a big strawhat crew one. Up there with the along park walk.

Markein

I did in the 131 reaction 🤍

Jessica McCann

IM PRETTY SURE YOU CAN WATCH THE OP NOW

Wesley Gills

Vivi´s speech is so meaningful and when her voice cracks I always start tearing up, her voice actress is such a goat The writing wraping up everything is masterful, Im always baffled

Valto

Specially because Chaka is a bum lol

Valto

Same, this is the first time I'm watching a reactor from episode 1 and it's been amazing. Usually just watched reactions to hype episodes. These reactions are quite refreshing; loving it!

Ancientswords

Pell’s dream was to protect Alabasta and Vivi and the royal family, being the guardian deity. His dream wasn’t to DIE protecting everyone and the nation. And if he did died, who is the next guardian deity? It can’t only just be Chaka

JojoJack

I think I get what you mean when you say "I'm feeling everything". You're happy but also sad, the scene is so badass it gives you chills, at the same time you can barely see the screen through your tears, and yet it’s so heartwarming ! 😭 The final goodbye in a saga like this also feels like the payoff of all the arcs that came before, which makes it hit even harder since you start remembering everything that happened with the crew. On top of that, using We Are while the Navy fires those "fireworks" as a farewell to Vivi is just the cherry on top ! I felt the exact same way during Arlong Park, and I’ve never seen another story leave me with such a powerful feeling. I love this story, its characters, and I’m so happy that you’re taking this journey with us ! Thank you Flexie !

Icenight

**Spoiler Warning** Does this confirm Sweet Pea as the next StrawHat? 😉😋

Ziggy Stardust

Falcons are the fastest bird alive. Maybe you should re-watch that episode in Whiskey Peak for Igaram’s ‘death.’

JojoJack

Pell's survival had nothing to do with 9/11... this is just a fan based conspiracy theory with no real evidence to back it up. His death wouldn't have even been faked to begin with if that were the case. The events are barely similar and One Piece wasn't even being translated into English until late 2002, which started with Romance Dawn anyway.

Ziggy Stardust

So many things I want to say but won't in fear of spoiling or setting rigid expectations 🫠

Zoodinger

Brendan O'Connor

You’re so good with expressing what you’re feeling and putting your emotions into words! And it’s exactly what you said: watching one piece is a fulfilling experience, your heart is filled with joy and happiness with scenes like this goodbye Loved your reaction to these episodes!

Vitor Hugo Benan

SkyPeia is a fan favorite arc, can't wait

Leandro Santos Matos

One of my favorite good byes in a series. And yeah we pretend Pell is dead in the community. His "death" was similar to a popular super hero movie.

Whoopsie

Our dear Robin chwaaaan

J D. Legend

Finally caught up to your reactions! It was an amazing journey, rewatching Alabasta with you. I don't usually rewatch the early arcs, but from time to time I find really good reactors that ADORE the journey and have amazing insight (like you!) and I end up watching even the early arcs. It was really cool to watch you react and love all the brilliant moments of this arc, and honestly, it also made me love Alabasta even more. Your emotions get through to me, make me add more weight to my own feelings for this arc! So excited to see you react to the next arcs! I CANNOT wait for you to reach the 200s in terms of episodes. What a ride! But also, cannot wait for you to get to know Robin more! I adore her!

Nicole

I am also Sanji when it comes to Robin-Shwan! She is too fine for words. My wife

Tedward

Igaram was never meant to die , and got an actual explanation. As pointed out , right before the explosion, you see Robin DF hands activate, as a clue that she grabbed him. It was always planned as a fakeout. Pell now, something clearly happened that made Oda change his mind and plans.

Zarathos Daimaoh

People keep mentioning 9/11 as a reason, but there is no proof nor source about that, it's just speculation.

Zarathos Daimaoh

So the reason pell’s death was changed according to what I’ve read is around this time when oda was writing this arc, 9/11 happened and oda was forced to change the outcome due to the poorly timed events around that time. Which is why it makes no sense

Seth-San

The Alabasta goodbye is so iconic. It is so bitter-sweet, so heartwarming and so wholesome that it is really one of the peaks of one piece. One Piece may have it weak moments, but the great impactful moments of One Piece make more then up for that. Also thanks again for another great reaction. All i can say is that Flexies reactions give a whole other vibe than alot of other reactors. Just like One Piece: "so bitter-sweet, so heartwarming and so wholesome". As i said before, its like having a hot chocolate on a cold winter day wrapped in a blanket. SO comfy.. lol.

Silvanus2004

1:09:42 Robin is also the tallest one if you notice. lol😂

Sky M

jaya is canon, idk why it would be considered filler

vers and Lukas (podcast)

Pell surviving is egregious, but we all just choose to pretend he's dead. Oda felt bad about killing him or something with the editor Ive heard a bunch of different stories about it.

vers and Lukas (podcast)

when you hear original op, its one peak!

Kevyn

Going forward I think my favorite moments are Robin and Chopper talking to each other. Theres a scene later, no spoilers, but it's my absolute most favorite moment I've seen in One Piece. Also the Luffy Chopper impression is iconic. I also like how when everyone is laughing, Robin's arms are swaying like she's laughing too. Usopp was an underrated star of that second episode. Everything he did were great Usopp moments.

KevinsLunchbox

I'd recommend Jaya be posted on youtube...It should be considered main story and not filler.

Soulreaver Dread

so the thing about pell surviving that most people dont realize was that he managed to get the autopilot working unbeknownst to everyone else. alfred later sees him at a cafe with catwoman

Kyonizuka

Ayoo I can’t wait for the alabasta saga review, I hope Karoo gets ranked as high as he deserves and the love doesn’t have to do with rankings

Kcosta

Let’s goo! I can’t even watch tonight but I’m hyped already and will never stop hyping more one piece

Kcosta

She might not survive Water 7 hahaha

MishkaTho

Marimo

Izzy J.

Wow wow wow, truly one of the BEST reactions I've ever seen to Vivi's goodbye. It is SUCH a beautiful scene, and the anime got it so perfect playing the original OP at the end to remind us of just how far we've come together. The shot of the crew lifting their left arms is STILL one of the most iconic panels/scenes in one piece, IMO.

KittensandMotorcycles

BON-CHANNNNN

KittensandMotorcycles

Tbh as much flaws as the early episodes had in terms of „immortal“ characters, the foreshadowings from the beginning Are insane.

MrMegaman94

As for Igaram, if we look back to the episode where his ship exploded we can see a frame of hands then we see the explosion happening. In that episode we couldn’t understand what happened but now that we understand Robin’s abilities I think it’s safe to assume that she used her hands to pull him out of the ship while Mr 5 blew it up.

Pht0m(Alex)

For Pell I think most people didn’t like him surviving, the only good excuse that I heard (might not be true) is that originally Oda was going to kill off Pell but 911 incident happened and Oda changed his writing to make him survived sort of to help the people to have hope instead of despairing them further

Pht0m(Alex)

Two amazing episodes we got Bon-Clay Sama sacrificing himself for the Strawhats, we got the goated goodbye to Vivi Sama and then we got Robin joining the crew. I love One Piece so much.

John Paul

Many will surely have an opinion about Pell. But something I don't know if anyone has mentioned is that when Bonchan says "OKAMA WEY," it's translated as "oh come my way." It loses a bit of what the character wants to convey, for me. More than two lines before, he says something about choosing to go as a man or choosing to go as a woman, but he can't choose to go against a person; he decides to go with the "okama wey."

marianoNex

I think my favorite moment watching Flexie was "He's jeté'ing off his own ship!?" I howled at this, lol.

codexero_

Going back and looking at the scene where Igaram's ship explodes, right before we see a black screen and a bunch of arms going across. If I had to extrapolate based on just that, she probably pulled him off the ship and into the water? I dunno, I'm okay with that.

hurryupmode

There's a segment of the fandom upset that Pell survived, and while I can understand why, it doesn't bother me at all. It isn't explained, and I don't need it to be, but that's just me. The suspected reason is that the chapter with Pell's death was released November 19th 2001. Pretty close to 9/11. Shonen Jump editors may have made Oda change the scenario of "Guy flies out of tower with a bomb and blows up" to be sensitive to their readers, given that 60% or more of them were in the 15 and younger demographic. If a gun was held to my head and I was forced to rationalize it and explain it in-world, though: The bomb was meant to clear a 5km radius, so perhaps it was designed to explode mostly horizontally? Pell was flying in his Giant Falcon form at the time, and maybe the inital shockwave from the blast may have just blown him far enough away to survive getting hit with the vertical limit of the explosion with shrapnel damage, broken bones, burns, and then followed by fall damage. Then again, this is One Piece. Usopp survived a 4-ton bat to the face, Luffy and Robin both got impaled and survived. Maybe fighters, adventurers, warriors, and sea-faring people in this world are just more hardy and resilient out here, compared to us.

hurryupmode

nice. its probably 4th for me and arlong park 5th. next arcs are just next level

makima

I never got the impression that she doesn’t like it. She seems to be growing with it, like we all did.

E

No spoilers: My theory, which I think is obvious once we think about it, regarding Igram's survival: After these episodes, we know definitively that Robin was always a good person, and never truly allied with Crocodile. Robin orchestrated the downfall of Crocodile. It only makes sense that she didn't kill Igram. But how? Well. Think about it. Igram's boat Exploded. This was at Whisky Peak. Who had Explosion devil fruit powers? Mr. 5, who was right there at Whisky Peak with the mission to kill Igram and Vivi. To me, it makes sense that it was Mr.5's explosives that were he planted in Igram's boat, to secure the success of his mission. If you re-watch the Boat Explosion scene, you will notice a very quick shot of Robin's hand powers on screen, right before the explosion. Robin was involved, but in what way? Robin saved Igram. And Robin is essentially undercover, she is super smart and made it seem like Igram had died, to not blow her cover and keep Igram safe as well. It is likely that Igram doesn't know how he survived. Thu we would not hear any explanation from Igram: he has none. But for us viewers, going back to watch the "death"-secen, with everthing we now know, I am convinced that the Robin saved Igram, and we were only made to believe Robin killed him, which played into her whole character arc in this saga: is she good, is she bad? What is the goal? That whole mystery. As for Pell. I was confused and disappointed as well as a kid. I've hear from other commenters here there are good reasons for it that come up down the line in one way or another, but I'm not aware of them myself. I think you gave a good explanation for how he could have survived (flying high enough, bomb dropping down, and Pell being powerful enough to barely survive the blast). But in isolation, in the moment, it does take away from his sacrifice in a narrative drama sense. Of course, even if he did survive, he did intend to die saving his people. I rewatched your reaction to Robin on the ship 3 times haha. Been waiting to see those faces you made for a long time hahaha, it was everything I hoped it would be. I watched this saga when it came out on TV. I bet by now you've seen the next episode (if not, spoilers warning) I lived vicariously through you in that moment lol. You know what I was robbed of...! That scene with Robin and Zoro is burned into my mind, little me was so fascinated by that whole interaction and the music.

Orhan

As a diehard OP fan, rewatching it with your reactions is so fun and enjoyable, I cried at the Vivi farewell part too, I'm so glad I can still feel the same emotions as I did when I watched the first time! And yeah... the pell surviving part was kinda BS but let's just say Alabasta ark was just epic and Oda is just such a genius! Can't wait for the next Ark! Ty so much Flexie!

Naishiuan

As amazing One Piece gets, looking back Alabasta is probably my favorite one piece arc

Bryan McNamara

Finally. Robin has joined the crew. An intriguing character indeed. Can’t wait till ya learn more about her. Love the twist of Robin and not Vivi. The show now starts to open up about more things. So much fun!!

JD Galbraith

Yea everyone hates the fact Pell survives cause it serves no benefit to the story

Indigo

Bon Clay is a straight up G, Oh, come my way!

when vivi is telling her story she says "and that small ship asked can you see that light?" and the camera cut to luffys face as she is saying it. luffy became vivi's guiding light in the dark

Ben

So unfortunately oda sometimes doesn’t like to kill people on his story. I remember somewhere I heard at the start of the story till some point oda doesn’t kill people because of his grandmother “she said she doesn’t likes people’s dies in the story” but foward we get better with that

oscar liang

Pell surviving was a little weird at the time we all saw it years ago and you thought that something would happen with him being alive.seeing it again now maybe it's a showcase of how resilient a Zoan type can be.maybei it's BS.i dunno

alexandros lagousis

Next episode you can watch the opening theme!!

hurryupmode

In fairness to Luffy, Robin saved him twice and refused to give info on the ancient weapon to Crocodile, so he's got some decent reasoning to let her on the ship. It wouldn't kill him to say that to his crew though so they can be aware.

Cetus

if you still don't like one piece after 129 then that only means it is not meant for you

reddnik

Do you remember the first time Robin appeared on the ship? She took Luffy's straw hat and put it on her own head. This was actually a foreshadowing that she would be a Straw Hat. Most people didn't realize that.⭐️🤣

I think hearing titles are fine, but reading it definitely gives out the big spoiler for sure 😅

Bon Clay's last stand is one of the few times where the English manga outdid the Japanese original. The manga chapter is titled "Last Waltz" in both Japanees and English. In the line where Bon Clay told Hina to "Bring it on" (which is a direct translation to what he said in the Japanese manga), the English translator instead translated it to "Shall we dance?" Absolutely brilliant. I share your frustration with the survival of Pell and Igaram, but there is a meta reason why he survived that I can't disclose here because it contains spoilers. I'll mention it when the time comes. Once I learned of the real reason, I ended up respecting that decision. The anime of the scene of the Straw Hats with their hands raised adds another angle for dramatic effect, but the way they framed it was too high for Chopper to be in it so they had him jump up a couple times to recognize his presence, hence his arm pops in and out of the bottom of the screen. Finally, Smoker's interaction with Tashigi at the end of the arc was so good. Smoker asked her if her "legs were alright." Though it is true that her legs were injured when she went up against Robin, we were able to see her walk around without issue post-war. But when we see her in her room, she's sitting on the floor crying over her bed. Smoker, in his most Smoker way possible, "misinterprets" it as her writhing in pain which is why he asked her about her legs when she came out. Also, up until now we've only seen Tashigi make coffee for Smoker but this time Smoker offered the coffee to her.

Satisfying episode!

Rej Tuban

Unfortunately, this is not true. There's a reason, but it includes spoilers so I can't say specifically why right now, but it was a creative choice by Oda.

Tabo51

I wont be the first to say it in the comments but yea Pell not dying is definitely one of the worst moments and doesn't serve the story in any way

charlie

Lol probably right in between there during EL

TheKiD40

Pell surviving is a little bs to be honest. I remember being a little upset about that too when I first watched it. It was just a beautiful and round story with him sacrificing himself for the sake of the country and to protect the royal family. But this is very rare don’t worry I think over all one piece has an amazing story telling and there won’t be things like that anymore

Guten Moin

Bombshell after bombshell lol love these episodes !!

TheKiD40

Yeah Pell is alive, it is not great to be honest, one of the lowest points of Oda in 1161 chapters. Narratively his death make sense but well Oda decided to no do it at the end, the good thing is that from now on it wont happen often

Diego Torres Ortiz

say hello robin! co-best one piece girl alongside nami! she fits right in along with our crew with her goal. luffy-to be king of pirates zoro-best swordsman nami-draw the world map usopp-become a brave warrior of the sea sanji-find all blue chopper-cure all diseases robin-find all poneglyphs and know the true history

makima

Vivi’s goodbye is the second scene of this series that I think about once a week. If Oda wants you to feel emotions, you’ll feel them

Andrew S

And now, with Nico Robin, the world will start to really open up.

mogeki

Bro I have watched this scene 100 times and it never fails to made emotional but watching you react to it, nah I was broken watching this

Diego Torres Ortiz

Bon Clay is certainly goated for his sacrifices this episode, but what elevates him even more is that he indirectly led to one of the most iconic and heartfelt moments in this story. The crew originally drew those arm tattoos just as a countermeasure for Mr. 2's powers, but thanks to Luffy's words it also served as a mark of their eternal friendship. So this beautifully touching farewell between Vivi + Karoo and the crew was only made possible thanks to the legend Bon Clay!

100Rainy

Nobody acknowledging that Usopp just sank 2 warships with a single cannonball?

Ace The FireDragon

The reason Pell survived is because the episode came out around 9/11 and Oda originally had Pell die but he thought it might be insensitive to western viewers so he changed it. Since Pell died to a bomb and the towers fell in a quasi-explosion.

Steven

Honestly a great decision

Ace The FireDragon

Igaram survived because Oda changed his mind and decided he wanted Robin to join the crew, so he unkilled him to make her not someone who killed a good guy. Pell living is just stupid.

Hans VonStrudle

I'm also a mess every time I watch this scene

FirstAidSack

In Bon Clays final send off he finishes his speech with "I'll make it bloom, oh come my way" ... this is a mistranslation. I might have mentioned this already, can't remember, but he's actually saying "okama way" and Okama is Japanese for queer. He uses the line a lot throughout the arc and it's essentially a queer pride slogan / catchphrase. Also, you're safe to watch the current OP now, if you weren't already aware.

Ziggy Stardust

I can’t wait until you rate this anime as the best anime and I wonder at what ark it will be either W7 or TB
