The idea of not every fight is worth fighting was just skanks in chapter 1 not sure if that was covered if not mods delete this comment but that was the lesson at the beginning of it all

2025-10-24 09:15:40 +0000 UTCI think the reason Luffy didn't fight back was a tribute to the bar scene with Shanks. Shanks didn't fight back at all against the mountain bandit either.

2025-10-24 04:06:13 +0000 UTCPeople like Bellamy are the ones that have already lost the fight. They have given up on dreams and have become arrogant enough to laugh at those who dare to dream. When he first picks a fight , he says "This isnt a fight, its a test". Luffy has nothing to prove to anyone. His doesnt dream to prove anything to anyone, he is free from that, he dreams for the pure joy of it. This is akin to engaging a random internet troll for raging baiting you. Luffy protected his peace and character by not stooping down to the same level as Bellamy. Just because you can fight, doesnt mean you always have to. This also ties to what Zoro learned during his battle with Mr 1. The reason for fighting is more important than how you fight.

2025-10-19 07:01:13 +0000 UTCLuffy not fighting Bellamy at the time is identical to what Shanks did at Shakky's bar and I believe this is where Luffy learned that not all fights are worth fighting. Also if you notice the way how Nami reacted to the fight about how they should've beat them up and men should fight when they are disrespected, is identical to kid luffy reacting to watching Shanks get beat up at the time. I like how this scene shows how far Luffy has come since then.

2025-10-17 23:10:25 +0000 UTCAlthough Pie Guy spelled out part of the meaning, the reason why Luffy and Zoro dont fight is partly left for the viewer to think about, so what I say is my interpretation. There are fights not worth fighting, thats very true, but that cant be all because if that was all then Luffy could have decided to walk away instead of taking the beating. He must have been proving a point and I think it was a self test of strenght. Literal strenght and also strenght of spirit, because in Luffy´s eyes Bellamy and those who dont dare to dream are weak. I think his point was that Bellamy and his gang could not even force him and Zoro to fight back because they were so weak. Sarquiss says not fighting against a strong opponent is disgraceful and the funniest thing is he is right about that LOL what he doesnt know is that they are not strong, they are weak. Hes also mimmicking Shanks btw the way he ignored being disrespected in the bar back then, but Luffy took it to another level.

2025-10-17 13:45:24 +0000 UTCsometimes i think they just mean that he is surrounded by his crewmates and Luffy/Zoro can sense that somehow. but that's probably not the point.

2025-10-17 09:05:59 +0000 UTCThe scene where Luffy, Zoro, and Nami come back from town and Nami is going on an absolute rampage because shes pissed off they got punked by Bellamy and his crew is so funny. Its probably my all time favorite scene I've seen in One Piece. Theres so much comedy going on. Chopper is so scared of angry Nami that you hear him eat a Rumble Ball to activate Guard Point, Usopp uses a Ketchup Star on himself to play dead. Chopper Jumping Point's into the ocean and Zoro has to jump in and save him from drowning. Its all so funny. Also it is insane Luffy and Zoro both instinctually knew that Cherry Pie guy wasn't alone in the town and that he has a crew with him, even if we dont see them at that moment where hes telling them Dreams never end. Jaya Island is such a fun arc and I like it a lot.

2025-10-17 08:55:33 +0000 UTCCongratulations! You are now under a thousand episodes from the current, it's been fun seeing all these old episodes again. Also always fun to see others start their own theory crafting, you may need to start keeping a list to see what you get right. Some theories might take a few hundred episodes to get an answer from.

2025-10-17 05:53:47 +0000 UTCThe "brother" is just a translation thing, it's more like just calling some random person "bro". Also, "People's dream have no end" still one of the coldest lines to this day.

2025-10-17 05:07:48 +0000 UTCLuffy didn't fight them because it wasn't worth it, to him they aren't "Real" pirates, just wannabes with no dreams and poking fun at others with them. So Luffy was like yeah, these guys are chumps and not worth it. And can i say there is no one more loyal than Zoro, Luffy says don't make a move and Zoro accepts without question.

2025-10-17 03:02:42 +0000 UTCOthers have mentioned how Ace and Shanks both said their respective lines before they parted with Luffy, the potential reasonings why Luffy didn't engage with Bellamy and the significance of Pie Guy so I'd like to shed some light on some other parts of this batch of episodes. For context, Roshi's bounty is double Arlong's. Granted, Arlong was also paying off the Marines via Nezumi so it may have been higher had they known what he did to the Marine vessels that "mysteriously" sunk in that area. Bounties signify their threat level to the government and not necessarily their strength, but it's a good barometer as we're seeing bounties rising as we go deeper into the Grand Line. We're seeing how "bad" of an influence Usopp is on Chopper. Not only the way they synced their "shut up dance" to Sanji, but Usopp's usage of his signature "Ketchup Star" when threatened by Nami prompted Chopper to use a Rumble Ball. Finally, a personal observation on Robin. Though I love her new drip, she seems to really like the cowboy hat which I find mildly contradictory for one that specializes in espionage and assassination.

2025-10-17 01:27:43 +0000 UTCRemember when Shanks didn’t fought back that Mountain Bandit the first time when Luffy was a lil boy? Also the World Government covered up the fact that Crocodile was beaten by Luffy. No one outside the main stories knows about that.

2025-10-16 21:49:01 +0000 UTCNah, nobody wants to get on her bad side but that just means that she's scary. She's smart and without her the crew would go nowhere but when everything turns to shit, the crew leans on Zoro. He's mercilessly loyal to Luffy and without a doubt the big brother of the crew. The vanguard that keeps them safe. He's usually walking behind the others because he's watching after them. It's something I'd love discussing in great detail but as always, it's kind of hard without going deep into spoiler territory. Someday, this might be a safe space for that. Not yet though.
Sindri
2025-10-16 21:38:11 +0000 UTCI don't think Luffy ever explains the reason of not fighting back but my theory is that he follows what he saw on Shanks. Shanks didn't fought the bandits because they just spill sake and laugh about him. For luffy this is similar, he is not taking bellamy seriously because Bellamy is an empty pirate, not conviction, so for Luffy all those attacks are meaningless

2025-10-16 21:34:00 +0000 UTCI really love hearing what you think about each episode — the way you notice every detail, every bit of reflection, every joke (even the background ones), and the philosophical ideas woven into the story. Watching it with you makes the experience even more special. I just love it — truly, deeply love it. Every time we talk about these moments, I can’t help but think of how One Piece brings out the best sides of each character. Some shine through their strength, others through their heart — and that balance is what makes the story so timeless. And here are some examples from these episodes: Zoro — no questions asked, just take it. It takes incredible willpower and physical strength to endure such an assault without fighting back, especially when facing someone as irritating as Bellamy. Zoro embodies unshakable loyalty, strength, and resolve. And I love his dynamic with Nami — those moments when his expression clearly says, “You just don’t get it, so I won’t even bother explaining,” are absolutely hilarious. Luffy — aim high and choose your battles. He might seem childish or foolish at times, but his instinct and conviction carry a quiet, profound wisdom. The lessons I’ve learned from One Piece bring me such serenity — it’s filled with life, wisdom, laughter, and hope. It might sound exaggerated, but for many fans like me, it’s truly gold. And speaking of timelessness, Jaya and Skypiea arcs are such underrated gems. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely love the Skypiea saga — its world-building, its themes of faith, dreams, and destiny, and the emotional weight of the story stay with me every time I revisit it. I hope you’ll find it just as enjoyable and meaningful too.

2025-10-16 21:12:29 +0000 UTC"People's dreams... never ends!" is also the phrase (exactly from this episode) mentioned in the popular video of "World of One Piece" at the end. Scene of Zoro and Luffy getting beating is - as already mentioned in other comments - flashback to Shanks getting beating in a bar at the start of the show and the "Pie guy" explained it perfectly.

2025-10-16 20:46:51 +0000 UTCThat famous line "People's dreams never end !" is so powerful ! I love the staging when Pie Guy says that line to Luffy, and how the "normal" people around them seem to disappear, as if they suddenly no longer matter in that moment. It’s like that line can only reach those who are brave enough to challenge their own dreams. Fun fact: you actually heard that line a year ago when you watched the "Breathtaking World of One Piece" right at the very end !

2025-10-16 20:02:42 +0000 UTCAnd there's the quote that sums up this entire series. "People's dreams never end". I'm with everyone else on trying to take notes on the series, although I've gone through One Piece like half a dozen times by now I'd still recommend newcomers try to write down what they can. Luffy and Zoro's reaction to what was being done to them in the bar was the correct response, and it's going to become important as a means of character growth for them both in time.

2025-10-16 19:59:55 +0000 UTCIf you aren't keeping notes right now flexie I really suggest you start. This next arc warrants it. Luffy meeting the pie guy is one of the first times we have not seen him smile at a person he just met. Everything this guy liked luffy didn't like. And then their weird comment at the end with "they". It's always been a fascinating interaction

2025-10-16 19:50:13 +0000 UTCNow is the waypoint where things get grander. The World will open up in the future, and each arc leaves more and more marks on the grand picture which is still painted even today. More and more Characters will appear and like smoker in Lougetown and Alabasta, Buggy, Jango and Fullbody, Coby, Helmeppo, each have their own ideas or dreams and you never now when a character will show up again. Sometimes in a big role, sometimes as a side role, somtimes just a a background, sometimes never (up till now). You never now what Oda will do. I started reading the Manga in 2001 followed up by watching the anime via fansubs at that time. I never would have guessed at that point, that a nice funny adventue story would grow to a Magnum opus of the then starting superrookie Mangaka named Oda who followed Toryamas footsteps. Funny to think that i was in my twentys as i started One Piece and now in my fifties still wondering what the One Piece will be. And as always so comfy and fluffy to watch Flexies reactions. One of the Highlights of my week, just as good as waiting for the next One Piece chaper itself.
Silvanus2004
2025-10-16 19:40:22 +0000 UTCNah those two scenarios had nothing in common. Shanks didn't even get hurt by the bandit and only got drinks spilled on him. No damage done to the bar either so no real harm done beyond what his carpenter would fix right up. Shanks even said that no matter what nobody hurts a friend of his. Here Luffy willingly gets beat up and allows people to beat up Zoro too and they just stand there taking it. It's like Pie-Guy said. Some fights are just not worth fighting. Luffy and his gang are all dreamers. It's what gives them life and the strength to move past everything else that ever happens to them. To them a bunch of gassed up nobodies with no dreams must feel bloody worthless. They don't even have the strength to allow themselves to dream. It's as if the dead are talking, laughing, and sure their cuts and bruises might sting a bit but that's all it is. It's a passing thing and it's all meaningless. They know their own strength and they don't need to prove it to these worthless bags of bones.
Sindri
2025-10-16 19:33:27 +0000 UTCOn the subject of if Shanks would approve of how Luffy handled the bar, think back to episode 4 when Shanks was introduced. When a very similar situation happened in the bar but with a mountain bandit coming in and attempting to buy booze. Shanks response was very similar to Luffy's here.
Kevin Bagust
2025-10-16 19:30:33 +0000 UTCThe whole not fighting when you don’t need to is a lesson he learned from Shanks from the beginning. It was when Shanks just sat there while those mountain bandits insulted and poured a drink on him at the bar. The whole crew just laughed it off. It just wasn’t a fight worth fighting. Then, of course, they threatened Luffy later on. That was a whole other story.
CeceBell
2025-10-16 19:22:01 +0000 UTCPie guy's little speech is one of those peak One Piece moments that I constantly think about. That whole big brother thing at the beginning... Nii-chan is something kids often refer to young men as in Japan. Older guys can also say it but depending on the use it can come off as condescending and rude. Of course it also just literally means big brother in family relations but as you found out, that Roshio guy has no relation to Bellamy whatsoever. He just gambled with the wrong guy.

2025-10-16 19:20:20 +0000 UTC"the drinks sure tatse good today" that's the last thing he said even tho he was calling that drink in the shop terrible...i just noticed this for the first time interesting

2025-10-16 19:13:30 +0000 UTCIt's not really confirmed but I think there's 7 warlords because the grandline has 7 main routes (as explained by Crocus at reverse mountain).

2025-10-16 19:06:56 +0000 UTCI always thought the reason Luffy took the beating was because of what Shanks did after he was humiliated by those bandits who later abducted Luffy. Shanks took it head on and only acted to protect him. I think this was a small nod back to that moment, with all the alcohol being thrown at them (exactly what happened with Shanks).
