2025-11-10 06:04:35 +0000 UTCSpy x Family is one of those shows where I don't really care if they're slow with character development or the story, because I just turn it on and follow whatever direction they choose to go in. It's a comfort anime for me. So when they take it to extreme and serious places like with Loid's backstory, then it's a wonderful surprise. When they choose to have a more chill and goofy episode, then that's within my expectations of enjoyment too. However, I understand what you mean with Yor's self-doubt. It feels like we should have had some big growth moments with Yor a few times already, or at least enough to push her slightly past where she is now. Yet at times, it feels like she's back at square one. My one major reservation is that we really have not seen a serious Yor episode yet. I am hoping, and assuming, that at some point we will have some serious moments with Yor, and those will be the giant triumph moments in her character development. So far, we've just got bits and pieces of people (like Loid and Anya) telling Yor that she's doing great, but that's not really a big catalyst for overcoming self-doubt. It just feels like it should be because it's happened so much, and that's where I think the exhaustion comes from (which I agree with you on). It's not enough to ruin my experience with the show, but I definitely understand the feeling. Especially because we know Yor is so awesome. All of this is just making me anticipate Yor's big moments to come even more, and if they don't, then I will be disappointed. But I seriously doubt they will slack on Yor's character as the story really progresses.

2025-11-08 01:44:22 +0000 UTCIn the manga, the cosmetics salesgirl tried to interest Yor in a "dramatic" eyeliner because "piercing eyes are all the rage", which Yor COMPLETELY misunderstood as being a weapon to literally pierce eyeballs. It's a shame that didn't make it to the anime. I have to agree that the repetition is becoming a little monotonous.🥱 Things WILL begin to pick up soon, it's just the matter of getting there.

I’m glad her inner struggles weren’t suddenly resolved by getting together with Loid and Anya, because I think long-lasting self-confidence from that would’ve been shallow writing. I think people feel short-term relief when something positive happens in their life, but if they don’t address the root of the problem, the issues will always resurface. Even now, the manga timeline is only at 6 months with them together as a family, so it’s probably 3 months in at this point?

However i kind of understand why her mind went there again but im a bit tired of hearing it. However something else happened that made me forgive her so its fine 😂

2025-11-08 00:24:45 +0000 UTCHonestly, I'm with you. Yor's lack of confidence is very frustrating. It honestly put me off the back half of season 1. It's fine to use a lack of confidence as a character flaw, but she never has anyone to express it to so she just spirals and puts herself down even though she's objectively incredible. It gets to the point where she gaslights herself. It's great that she has a social group now (desmond family drama notwithstanding) that lets her express her doubts instead of letting them bounce around in her head for multiple episodes of a season

I haven't read the manga, but I just saw it next to the new One Piece volume at the bookstore a couple days ago lol Spy Family has a lot of "punny" jokes. Like Damian telling Anya after the handkerchief incident that he's "indebted" (kari in Japanese) to her, but Anya didn't know the word which is why she thought she was going to get something "kari kari" (onomatopoeia for crunchy) from him. I know you're aware of the R/L conundrum in Japanees so the lady at the cosmetics shop that talked to Yor about the Eye "Brow" liner, Yor thought she was wanting to deal a "Blow" to the Eye hence mistaking it for a weapon. I don't envy the translators that have to translate the joke while maintaining continuity.
