"You said no claws!!" FIRST DRAFT

Hello, Patrons! This is my first Patreon-exclusive post!! Since the "Oodles of Doodles" tier is included in every pledge of $3 or more, most all of you oughta be seeing this! I wanted to show you guys how my latest piece came to be! It all started... ten months ago!?

This SAI file is dated July 2nd, 2018. I was actually in the process of trying to figure out what to do with Chaz, since I still couldn't figure out what to do with his design. I first hashed out a rough idea of his then-current design, which had drawn a lot of comparisons to a certain digital monster...

Standing straight up, this big lug was coming up to or past people's shoulders. He was just TOO BIG to work with, and I literally couldn't find a way to fit him into anything. So I took the old turnabout approach and decided, instead of trying to force him into a small space, why don't I just condense the guy into a smaller package?

That's when this happened:

Look at this shitty little gremlin!! Something about this instantly clicked with me, and I began to realize all the possibilities. He could be hiding anywhere! Under your bed, hiding behind the couch, or just behind the door... He's perfect!! This is exactly what I needed to do with this character!

I was so eager to see him in action, I broke poor Kanasta's spine in that sketch. Whoops. In fact that pose ended up being what kept me from committing to the idea of this picture at first. But I wanted to revisit the concept for the Patreon launch, and, as you can see, we found a way to make it happen.
