He may have been raised by the Starks, but he was essentially a hostage and everyone understood how that worked. If Theon's father had attacked Westeros again Theon would have been executed. Theon is weak. A strong man would not have killed the old retainer just because of what his crewman said. He responded with brutality which is often what weak men do when challenged. I condemn him for that and not for fighting for his father.
