Lighting in The Sims has always been... well you know. I made a version of the subtle saucer light in my early creating days that provided significantly more light than any of the EA options. But it wasn't perfect and had a department-store vibe when placing multiple of them on the ceiling. It also made the walls *super* bright.
Regardless of the light option I used, they were always getting in the way of my testing/screenshots and I can only imagine how annoying they can be during gameplay. So I created this hidden light system.
There are three light styles:
- ceiling lights
- wall/under shelf lights
- floor spot lights
The light objects are little arrows/cones that give you an idea of the direction of the light. Because I wanted to give you the ability to hide these lights and also have full control over color/dimming so I built these a bit differently than my previous hidden items.
When you first place them, they will be visible (but still tiny). You can make them invisible both in build/buy mode and live mode! In both cases, you just need to place the light switch controller on the lot. To quickly make them invisible, you can hop into live mode and click on the light switch and choose 'Hide All'. If you don't want to go through the hassle of moving in a family, all you need to do is reload the lot after placing the light switch.
Anytime you reload the lot, it will test if there is a light switch controller or not. If there is one present, then all the hidden lights will automatically turn invisible. And if there is not light controller, then the hidden lights will automatically become visible.
This approach also gives you the ability to control the hidden lighting color & dimming settings in live mode. You can set the lights individually like typical lamps and also change their settings all at once using the light switch controller.
I hope this makes things simple for you all and lets you have the visibility control in BB as well as giving you full customization options when you get into live mode!

Unfortunately this mod appears to currently be broken, when I place down a ceiling light it doesn’t actually light up the room (though it does seem to have some effect on sims and some objects, so it’s kinda strange)

2022-01-21 16:46:25 +0000 UTCI haven't had a chance to play around with this because I've been too busy d/l'ing CAS content to play the game (like my Sims need more clothes!), so question: Can TOOL be used to rotate and the-opposite-of-levitate a light? Like if I wanted an up-light behind a counter instead of a down-light from a cabinet, or an invisible floor light for some reason?

I can see things. Oh wow wait I think I MIGHT be able to see in the Goth house now this is game changing -gaSP- so money-saving too because now I only need one where I needed like, six. xD

I’ll explain it more tomorrow, but this doesn’t have full lighting color/dimming control in bb mode. You can only control visibility. So his mod will give you extra control :)
