Chapter 183

Kanae spent the better part of the next day breeding fingercrabs. The little buggers' watery fertile seed turned out to be just that— an incredibly fertile source of nutrition. If they were able to successfully ranch these creatures, it would raise the yield and quality of crops everywhere.

The irony wasn't lost on her. They had killed hundreds of fingercrabs the other day, but Kanae was now repopulating their numbers. A single birth cycle spawned dozens at a time in clusters of egg sacks. The difference this time was that they didn't have a queen to reproduce constantly which led to the initial infestation.

Kanae sat on a chair with her legs spread open. Two infant fingercrabs were suckling on her nipples as she gave birth to the final clutch. Their slimy eggs slowly moved through her. An intense pleasure sank its claws into her brain and body when the sacks popped out. They fell into a woven basket padded with straw.

A few Rown workers, faces red from watching her give birth the entire morning, came by to pick the basket up and deliver it to a crate. They threw some more padding inside, nailed the lid shut, and hauled it to a stack that contained more.

"Will that be it, milady?" a beastman foreman of the warehouse asked.

"That's it." Kanae nodded. "Make sure to transport them carefully. If they survive, we're looking at a bigger feast than ever for Arum Taum."

The foreman twirled a finger in the air, and half of Rown's fleet of wagons began their journey to villages and farms across the country. Kanae turned her eyes to the other half. Those would be heading to the Commonwealth. She glanced down and patted the two fingercrabs nursing greedily for her milk.

Typically found in dense vegetation, they are swarming monsters that feed on tree sap and plant matter. Their ejaculate serves to feed and reproduce with a queen, as well as return nutrients to the soil.

Normally, fingercrab infestations would decimate crops. Keeping a few around and feeding them dead plants made them great composters. The Commonwealth was going to benefit greatly from them, too.

"Load up the rest and bring them to the Eminence of Sin church!" Kanae wrenched the two from her breasts and tossed them into a crate to be loaded up.

They drove the remaining half of this Rown warehouse's wagons to the church. Fourteen in total, all packed to the brim with crates of fingercrabs.

The neighborhood around the Radevic Chapter of the Eminence of Sin went through rapid change in the past few months. The streets were cleaner, and rats no longer darted past anyone's feet. Decrepit buildings had been knocked down and replaced with newer homes. Many more were in the process of being built by construction crews working day and night. The inhabitants strolled about during the day rather than skulk and stalk the night as hooligans.

Kanae and the Rown vehicles stopped in front of the church of the Eminence of Sin, a large chapel that saw dozens of visitors a day and helped hundreds more. Tabith and Meidina emerged from the building in smiles. The Sisters of Sin, now high priestesses of the Radevic Chapter, rushed down the chapel steps to meet their matron.

"High Priestess Kanae! It feels like ages since we last saw you." Tabitha bowed deeply.

"I would offer you to come inside for tea, but it looks like you're busy. Is this a delivery to the church?" Meidina asked, her pointed elven ears twitching with curiosity.

"You assumed right. It's for the church, but not this one. I'm having this go directly to Ehmvier, but I wanted to speak with you two first," Kanae said.

The two high priestesses cast uneasy glances to each other.

While the Rown wagons waited outside, Kanae followed Tabitha and Meidina into the chapel. A couple was praying towards the front, and they weren't exactly quiet about it.

"Blessed Eminence of Sin, please let my wife grow bigger breasts…" the man murmured.

"I want my husband to choke me while we have sex. Oh, and our safe word to be 'barnacle'," she whispered beside him.

Kanae pursed her lips and swallowed a retort. If the Eminence of Sin excelled in one thing, it was in making people more unabashedly open about their sexual desires.

The three of them entered the office in the back of the chapel, a cozy room with only a single bed and crumpled sheets and desk in front of a window left ajar.

"Maybe you two can explain to me what Lilith has been up to. I learned that she flirted with an Ortesian ambassador and recruited Commonwealth citizens to enroll in Knights' Academy. All without informing me or Arenade first?" Kanae folded her arms.

Both of them bowed at perfect 90-degree angles.

"We're sorry, High Priestess! We really don't know," Tabitha confessed.

"I-It's not like Lilith sends letters or couriers to us often. We—"

Kanae's eyes flashed with the Charm spell, bringing Tabitha and Meidina to their knees. She hooked her tail underneath Tabitha's chin, making the human succubus face her.

"You really don't know? Or you don't want to tell me?" Kanae asked.

"First Sister Lilith and High Priestess Zadris have been… butting heads. Ever since you left them to rule, the two would bicker how best to rule. Lilith believes that the survival of the Commonwealth lies in expansion and influence. She sent newly-turned succubi to remote places to forcibly bring under the Commonwealth, lowered the age to enlist in the army, and spent large capital through Rown Company to buy potions and magical armaments from Ortesia in their place," Tabitha explained to Kanae's shock.

"Ehhh? She did all that in such a short time? The first two aren't that big a deal, but using Rown Company to buy from Ortesia? If the empire finds out where it's really going, that'll cause a scene… What about Zadris?" she pressed further.

"Zadris has taken a reserved and reactionary approach to ruling," Meidina began sympathetically. "She thinks the status quo is fine as is, and the Commonwealth should only act when responding to threats. That is to mean they shouldn't spend more money on a larger army or rely on roundabout trade with Ortesia."

In other words, Zadris and Lilith disagreed on a fundamental level.

"And who do you two side with?" Kanae asked.

"The First Sister," Tabitha answered.

"Zadris," Meidina said immediately after.

Through will alone, they briefly snapped from Kanae's control to glare at each other. Clearly, it was the first time they were hearing this.

"Lilith is only doing what's right to protect the Commonwealth and her majesty's people! If the Queen-Mother or Lord Charron attacks, we need to respond with a strong enough force. Surely, you can see that?" Tabitha asked.

"I do, but it helps no one if we can't pay the upkeep of a larger standing army. Or feed them, for that matter! We would dry up the royal coffers before a fight even begins. Zadris understands this and is only urging Lilith to slow down instead of a full stop," Meidina explained.

"What good is all that gold collecting dust? Our enemies will trample over us and take it like a treasure chest at the end of a Rift!" she fired back.

"Ladies." Kanae cleared her throat.

"Forgive us, your majesty!" They slammed their foreheads to the floor.

Honestly, Kanae wasn't sure herself which decision was right. As far as she could tell, both were correct. There wasn't an easy answer to this.

"Nngh… Alright, this is a decree from your queen: Lilith will find a middle ground with Zadris to slow down recruitment and trade. From now on, you high priestesses will hold votes over decisions to guide the Commonwealth— at least until I return to Ehmvier. The two of you will go back with the wagons. I'll have Gretchen oversee this church for the time being," Kanae explained.

"As you command!" The two kept their heads down until Kanae ended Charm's effects.

When they stood up, neither could look each other in the eyes.

"Uhm, what exactly are we bringing back anyway?" Tabitha asked.

"Monsters called fingercrabs. Have Lilith and Zadris distribute them to cities and towns across the Commonwealth. Their secretions are like fertilizer on crack. I want them to arrange ten-thousand bushels of mixed harvests delivered to Radevic in time for Arum Taum, too. And don't forget, we're all on the same side here," Kanae reminded them on the way out.

Hopefully that was the end of that.

Kanae unfurled her wings and flew home. The manor guards regarded her from below as she landed on the balcony to her room. It didn't look like Arenade was here. She traveled down the corridor until a maid bumped into her.

"Sorry, my lady! I didn't see you— er, I didn't even know you were back!" a servant exclaimed.

"Is Arenade around?" Kanae asked.

"Lady Arenade is downstairs in the bath," he said.

Kanae thanked the servant and made her way to the grandiose bath house underneath the manor. Marble columns connected the floor and ceiling. Water poured from the hands of a statue in Arenade's likeness. The elf herself lounged in the steaming pool, glass of wine in one hand and with her back to the entrance.

After taking off her clothes, Kanae entered the baths next to Arenade.

"Exactly how long do you stay here?" Kanae asked.

"As long as I want. We're not leaving until tomorrow, so you won't be pulling me into any more adventures until then!" Arenade casually wagged a finger at her.

"That's fine. I'm here for something else instead~" She unburdened the glass of wine from Arenade's hand and kissed her.

Arenade was resistant at first but quickly succumbed. They made out while embraced in each other's arms. Kanae pinned her busty high elven lover to the edge of the pool, kissing up and down a slightly moist, sensitive neck. Beneath the water's surface, her tail had more lecherous plans.

"Kanae, what's gotten into you today… ahhh!" Arenade's eyes rolled back when Kanae pushed her tail into an eager pussy.

"Mmm? Is there something wrong about lusting after you?" Kanae tightly entwined their fingers together.

After drowning in pleasure and having her fill of Arenade for an hour, Kanae emerged from the bath much more refreshed.

"You can hold back, you know?" Arenade pouted, steaming more than the bath waters as they changed in the other room. "It's not like I'm going anywhere. All this rough and degenerate s-s-sex… ahem. All I'm saying is, you should be more gentle with a divine being such as myself. Caring! Those other succubus you sleep with might like getting choked, but I want to be pampered. Pamper me!"

"I could screw you onto my futa dick for a year, and the mention of sex would still make you blush. But fine. I'll be more gentle with you next time," Kanae teased, pecking Arenade on the cheek.

"Hmph. So, where were you all day?" she asked.

They headed down to the pantry to get some food.

"A Rown warehouse, then to the Eminence church. Found out why Lilith's been acting on her own— because that's exactly what I told her to do. Thing is, she and Zadris have vastly different ideas on how to run the Commonwealth. I sent Tabitha and Meidina to Ehmvier with orders to handle things as a collective," Kanae explained.

"As a theocratic oligarchy? Have you seen how Ortesia turned out?" Arenade paused in front of her.

"Urk… What should I have done instead?" she asked.

The high elf shrugged, leaving Kanae baffled. "That's the thing about ruling. You can never have a fully right or wrong answer, only an answer that's mostly right or mostly wrong."

When they got to the kitchens, the cooks whipped them up a hearty meal of sweets. Cakes, pastries, confection… the whole bakery. A lot more than either of them could possibly eat.

"Okay, so… Was what I did mostly right or mostly wrong?" Kanae popped a piece of candy into her mouth and shuddered from how sweet it was.

Suvee and Kanade ran into the kitchen, drawn in by the smell of sugary desserts. They dragged Gretchen in with them. Kanae took the opportunity to inform Gretchen about taking care of the Eminence church here in Radevic. After Arenade cut them each a slice of cake, she shooed them out of the kitchen and waited until they were gone before answering.

"I'd say it was mostly right. Mostly wrong would've been giving all the power to one of them. That's a recipe for disaster, believe me! The problem is none of them ever ruled a country as big as the Commonwealth before. Neither have you, so seven of you wouldn't be any better. It's why you delegated a bunch of people to help you rule, right?" Arenade explained in a way that was easy for Kanae to digest, but not so easy to come up with a solution for

"Maybe one of us should go back." Kanae sighed.

"You can't go. The Grand Eye gave Amethyst an order. I'm not going back either."

"Really? I thought you would want to go back more than anything."

"We're going to find things out about Charron. He's my brother after all." Arenade lifted a cookie up to her lips intending to eat it, but she ultimately lost her appetite and put it back down.

"Hey… I'm not sure if this is a sensitive topic, but… How did Charron, a high elf, end up as the demon lord?" Kanae asked.

Arenade's eyes darted all around the kitchen. She whistled sharply, ordering the cooks to box up sweets into containers. They did so, and then carried them out front for reasons unknown to Kanae. When it was only the two of them alone in the kitchen, Arenade cupped Kanae's cheeks.

"I probably had an answer when I was still a demigoddess. Somewhere deep inside me though, I think I know it had something to do with me. I doomed our family trying to lift the poor from poverty, remember? He probably hasn't forgiven me for that," Arenade said.

Demon Lord Charron used to be Charron Ehmvier, a high elven duke and son of the Ehmvier family. Whatever complicated relationship these two had, it was bad enough for Charron to invade Arenade in this world's heaven to screw with her.

"No need to get all mushy about the past." Arenade let go and headed for the door. "We're going to beat the answers out of him eventually."

"Where are you going now?" Kanae asked.

"Taking Gretchen and the kids to see Potts and the others at a grade school up in Brighton. That's what all the sweets are for. If we're staying here for some time, I want to enroll them in the school. You want to come with us?" she offered.

"There's still some things I want to do before we leave, so I'm going to drop by Aidenhall."

They went their separate ways from there. Kanae soared to the palace of Aidenhall to visit Elizabeth Bedlam in particular. However, she noticed a group of enlistee knights in the training fields below. Pan and Revah were among the class in a sparring session conducted by Esta. Kanae flew down for a closer look and hid behind a half-wall to stay out of sight.

Esta was pitting students against students. Revah had just finished her bout by throwing someone into a pit trap. Without spikes, of course. The poor combatant had to be fished out by fellow classmates. Pan was up to fight, but she looked distracted. Her otherwise strong magic as a crowned Shaman was lacking, and the mage she was up against, blew her square across the field.

It took Kanae's all to not go in there and help. Doing so would only embarrass Pan, and she probably didn't want to see her after their last encounter. Revah helped Pan up and offered a shoulder to lean on. Esta called for a break. Kanae was about to leave until a few students slumped on the other side of the wall.

"Man, I can't believe those are the Knight of Amethyst's daughters."

"I heard Amethyst conquered a tribe of hobgoblins and mated with their chieftains!"

"I'm more bothered that they probably got in just for being the Knight of Amethyst's daughters. You know how hard I worked my ass off to earn an enrollment?"

"Seriously. There's another girl. Mikki, I think? She isn't even crowned! How is it fair that she got into the Knights' Academy?"

"I don't think Teana and Nelly are taking it seriously either. Man… My room is right next door to him. I hear them doing it every night! I'm so jeal— I mean angry! This is a prestigious academy, not some love nest. Ugh."

I'll show you not to complain about my daughters, Kanae thought.

A quick and quiet cast of Turn Horny brought the group of trainees to the ground. They clutched their crotches, suffering from being on the verge of climax. Two outright jizzed themselves.

Satisfied, Kanae left before anyone suspected a thing. She made one last glance back down to the field and locked eyes with Revah, who was in the middle of fanning a napping Pan. The girl shot a look to the orgasming trainees, then back to Kanae. Her other hand rose to give a thumbs up.

Kanae smiled, waved back, and continued on her way to Eliza's tower. She found the sorceress upstairs at the workdesk in her bedchamber, looking like a hot mess. Eliza was only haphazardly dressed in a bathrobe. The voluminous locks of her hair were up in numerous hair rollers. She wore a heat pack on her forehead. A pipe clenched between her jaws smelled of something fierce.

"Eliza… are you doing alright?" Kanae asked.

"No, I'm not doing alright. The other faculty and I are working overtime tuning these dungeon cores. We weren't prepared for the sudden influx of trainees from your Commonwealth. Pass me the influx spanner, would you?" Eliza pointed to another workbench where a hundred different tools awaited.

Kanae went over, but she was petrified by the hundred different tools before her wide eyes.

"Amethyst, have you found it yet?" Eliza asked.

"Uh…" Kanae looked all over and couldn't find it. She was missing an important detail. What the hell was a spanner?

"Don't keep me waiting. The core's integrity relies on our timely action, you know?" she explained impatiently.

Kanae reached for a strange wrench-looking thing with glowing lines running along the length of the handle. She stopped. Her hand wandered to another tool. This one was a double-sided flathead. That couldn't be it.

"Amethyst? The influx spanner, please! If the core begins to denature, we risk a CATACLYSMIC EXPLOSION! AMETHYST, PLEASE!" Eliza shouted.

Sweating bullets, Kanae snatched five random tools from the workbench and dropped them next to Eliza.

"Are any of these it?!" Kanae panicked.

Eliza took one look at them and shook her head. She got up to fetch the tool herself, then returned to tweaking the nuts and bolts of the round orb. It was the wrench with glowing lines she picked up.

"What about the explosion?" Kanae hesitated to ask.

"What explosion?" Eliza smirked.

Kanae slapped a hand to her face and muttered, "I'm so glad you didn't end up as my mentor."

The sorceress erupted into laughter. As the tension left Kanae's shoulders, she also couldn't help but chuckle.

"My father used to tease me all the time. He had me help him build all things mechanical and arcane, and often asked me to bring him tools. Never once did he tell me what they looked like, only their names. One day, I grew so frustrated that I refused to bring him another tool. He told me, 'but Elizabeth, you know what it looks like now, don't you?' And I did. It came to me in a clear image, though accompanied with the memory of an imminent threat. Now, you will as well. So, my friend. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?" Eliza sat the dungeon core away and turned around in her seat.

"You can put things like potions and items into the artificial Rifts, right? Is that how my group came across potions during our aptitude test?" Kanae asked.

"That's right. We put a number of beneficial finds within to give them a fighting chance. Why do you ask?"

"I want to give something to my daughters," she began. "It won't be anything to help them cheat through the trial, I promise! Just a little pick-me-up. I kind of want them to come across it right before the big boss fights. Can you do something like that?"

Eliza rose from her seat and smiled. "Ah. The true mark of parenthood. You might not be my father, but I do see him in you when you're with those girls. Very well, Amethyst. We have plenty of time to do this. What do you have in mind?"
