Lana's Library #5 - Sharing my Favourite Series (1)
Added 2024-07-13 17:00:08 +0000 UTCI've been in a total high with reading and have just recently come into a crash. In an effort to re-invigorate my joy of reading again, I wanted to share some of my favourite series of all time with you and geek out a bit. This is probably the least 'structured' video ever and I definitely get lost (the cuts I made while editing were ridiculous), but I'm also very happy to talk about some of my faves with you and I think that makes for a nice watch.
I'd love to geek out with you about any of these or take any recommendations you have to help me in my reading slump. x 💜

Aww thanks! I've picked August's book and created the announcement to go up in two weeks time (bit early yet haha) and have something a little different planned after that... Yeah my brain is mush! I got there in the end though! I was going to edit it out but figured I am who I am. 🤷♀️🤣 Oooh the idea of a novel told through interviews seems a bit awkward/not fun BUT as an audiobook...that changes things! I didn't love Handmaid's Tale for it's format but felt I would have more as an audiobook and the premise of Sleeping Giants DOES sound verrrry interesting... Oooh I hadn't considered trying other DND style fiction...will definitely look into those! Cory explained what 'murder hobos' was when we first started collecting hands haha. Thanks for watching and commenting!! - Lana 💜

2024-07-18 07:04:29 +0000 UTCI have heard great things about The Lies of Lock Lamora...going to have to get on that clearly! Oooh! We did Kings of the Wyld for book club and it was sooo much fun! I also haven't gotten to the second book yet. I liked that it was 'standalone' in the sense the the 'sequel' was a 'companion' novel so I got a sense of completion and satisfaction. Nice change. - Lana 💜

2024-07-18 07:00:28 +0000 UTCMissed you in book club this month! Good to hear your voice in a book context again. Started laughing at the end "What's my phrase? *brain clearly rebooting*" and I was thinking yeah, that's about right. Anyways, for recs. If you're going Sanderson, start with Mistborn, IMO. The first trilogy is a good introduction to how he writes and the multi-series universe he builds. For adult sci-fi, look up Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel. Trilogy told mostly through interviews, the core of the first book being about parts of a giant robot found in buried around the planet that there's no way humanity built. They work to put it together, then try to figure out where it came from and why it's there. My wife and I have gone through the Audible series more than once and loved it. If you want fantasy that uses levels, stats, classes, etc in a dungeon setting, Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman is one of the best in the LitRPG genre. Mysterious stairwell? Check. Most of humanity wiped out in an instant? Check. Intergalactic show televising the entire thing? You betcha. Fantastic series that's still coming out with more. In that same vein, Something by Dakota Krout starts a trilogy better known as Full Murderhobo. 4 main characters, and one hell of an adventure. Also with stats, levels, etc.

The Lies of Lock Lamora by Scott Lynch is sooooo good, did not expect to love it as much but def has become one of my favorites, it’s a 3 book series, I’m still on book 2 (I get distracted reading other books 😅) The Wayfarers Series by Becky Chambers is lovely sci-fi, made me cry in the best ways. Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames is another one I was surprised to like so much, it gave me DND vibes! Such a good book, I’ve been saving the second one. I had more recs in mind but I’m blanking now lol. I am so intrigued by all your recommendations, I’m going to look for the Cousins’ Wars series!
