Important! All Patrons Poll - Future DoL Options
Added 2020-03-06 16:37:51 +0000 UTC---------------------------
TLDR Version: This poll is to determine with DoL follow up idea goes into the poll next month for what will replace The Dungeon of Lewidty once it finishes. If you don't want to read everything, you can simply skip to the two options and vote.
--------------------------
Alright! As The Dungeon of Lewdity is nearing it's end-of-development (next month's Build 14 should be the final build), we need to talk about follow-ups! Some of you might recall that I've already mentioned bits and pieces about follow up games already, but this is the first time we're getting serious about making decisions regarding what the next game will be. There's also been a few changes to the possibilities since I first mentioned it several months ago. The most notable of which is that it isn't realistically possible to simply add new routes/paths to the original DoL game, which is one of the options I had mentioned in the past.
The reason for this is actually a technical issue, one that I haven't found a way around despite occasionally poking and prodding at it. Namely, it turns out that there's actually a maximum size limit for TWINE games. That size limit isn't related at all to the total file size, the vast majority of which is tied up in the images. It's actually explicit to the HTML file and the ability to even load it into the TWINE engine. Or, rather, into the browser that the engine runs in. Long story short, the game is already 60% to that total size limitation. I fully expect, between the remaining builds, that is will be close to 70-75% of the size limit at completion. That means that each of the 6 paths is accounting for roughly 12.5% of the total size limit. So, I could theoretically squeeze in up to two more paths...maybe, if I was very lucky. Realistically, given that the new paths would almost certainly be bigger than the old ones (due to how I've expanded room sizes as the game got popular), I could probably only do one additional path. And that's just not good enough.
Now, don't despair! That doesn't mean that DoL follow-ups are out of the running for the next game. In fact, I have two general possibilities that I'd like you to get a feel for and vote on. The winner between the two will go on to join at least two other ideas for games in a poll next month. That poll will determine which game replaces The Dungeon of Lewdity in the development cycle. But, I only want one DoL option in that poll so that fans of more DoL content being the next game aren't split between two options, making the poll results less definitive! So, let's see what the two follow-ups in The Dungeon of Lewdity series could be...
------------
Here are the Options!
Option 1 - A straight-up second Dungeon of Lewidty game: The Dungeon of Lewdity 2. This would essentially just be the same sort of game, with 6 new routes and a new protagonist. Built on the same model as before. I may consider going with a different art methodology, as it's starting to become harder and harder to find additional, relevant art. But the game would otherwise functionally just be a second The Dungeon of Lewdity, with no real gameplay changes.
Option 2 - This would be a new take of The Dungeon of Lewdity series. Instead of playing as a Delver of the Dungeon, you would play as a Dungeon Master, charged by The Dungeon of Lewdity to run a section of the dungeon. Instead of going through the game as a Delver, experiencing rooms, you would be assigned to Manage Delvers. While I'm still working out the fine details, in general, each Delver would be trainable in multiple ways, with you choosing what rooms they go through in order to train/change them in one way or another. In example: A delver might have a predisposition to becoming an Animal Girl, but could be guided to transform into a Pony Girl, Cat Girl, or Cow Girl. By selecting the right series of experiences for them, they will become one of those options...assuming you don't fail! In which case you might be punished by The Dungeon...
Like the original The Dungeon of Lewdity game, there would be multiple themes to pick from as well, represented in this case by choosing which Dungeon Master/Mistress you play as, since each one will have their own area of specialty assigned to them by The Dungeon...
So, which DoL Game should appear in next month's poll?
